I CAN'T BELIEVE SMOLTZIE IS GONE!!!!!!!

It is honestly depressing that John Smoltz is now a Red Sox player! When I hear the words Atlanta Braves I immediately think of John Smoltz.  I understand the Braves reasoning, but come on....3 million dollars!!!! Thats chump change for them.  They should be willing to cash out alot more than that for someone like Smoltz.  He isn't just any player, he has made the Braves what they are.  He is the reason that Atlanta has...or had...such loyal fans! I am 22 years old and I have been saying the name John Smoltz since I could speak!! I grew up loving baseball and idolizing the the Braves and to lose the face of the Braves to another team, because the Braves can't cough up a few extra million dollars to their most loyal player, is something that I never even fathomed would happen.  When Andruw left that was hard enough, and everyone was angry at the Braves then, then after this past season, I thought for sure they would hold on to their career vets.  I do not even want to imagine this baseball team without our last icon, Chipper Jones.  I bought Andruw Jones's jersey a few years ago thinking that he would be around forever and when he left I bought Smoltz's because I thought FOR SURE that he definitely never ever leave and be here for the rest of his career.  I thought that jersey would be a collectors item because of what he has done for this franchise...and now that they just crapped on him is sickening....really.  So CHIPPER PLEASE DONT LEAVE!!!!!!!!

Just the way it is

You’ve got let em go if they can’t really help your team that much. We’re not in a position to win next year, what’s the upside to Smoltz coming back? Really it’s more sentimental than anything else. He’s got a legit chance to win the series next year, the Sox are looking at him for a postseason run while we’d want him to help carry the load all year. I think it was in everyone’s interest to move on.

Smoltz isn't similar to Eckerlsey. He's better. Much better.
