Braves to meet with Lowe
Braves to Meet With Lowe: MLBTradeRumors.com
If Smoltz leaving forces Wren to sign the pitcher he should've been after all along, then good luck Smoltzie and welcome home Derek.
To hash out a bit of rosterbating, and going along with the official site that says we want Kawakami AND Lowe, I think this rotation has real potential:
Lowe
Vazquez
Jurrjens
Kawakami
Glavine/Campillo/Morton/Hanson/Reyes
There might not be an "Ace" but it is a rotation that could go toe-to-toe with any other in the NL

Sign Lowe today
And let’s get over the Smoltz fiasco.
And then sign Dunn and Kawakami to make the offseason a success.

any offseason
in which we lose John Smoltz cannot be looked at as a success.

Funny thing
When everyone was rosterbating their theoretical 2009 rotations and rosters, how many factored in Smoltz? Very few.
So, losing him in general isn’t going to alter a whole lot of peoples’ expectations for 2009. But from the sentimental, fan point of view, I see what you are saying, and agree.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.

I think most Braves fans picture Smoltz whey they rosterbate
At least I do.

Wait a minute…
I guess I should be one to talk.
There's nights that I can't even walk.
There's days I couldn't give a fuck.
And in between is where I'm stuck.

I was talking about the rotation!
Wait, that doesn’t clarify things either…

I make my wife wear a cardboard Smoltz cutout when I rosterbate
While the Ryan Klesko cutout watches from the corner.

By the way
the title of this fanpost is quite mis-leading…

Wow
You should’ve clicked the link before you said that. It’s the exact title of the MLBTR post AND the boston globe report reported on from mlbtr
The link is a little small, I’ll make it stand out more :)

how's this for positive
maybe we won’t lose 100+ games, but who can honestly say they expect us to COMPETE this year. I was quite optimistic last year. We had some bad breaks and a few guys had down years.
This year, who can honestly say that this team is COMPETITIVE? We have some good ballplayers that deserve to win. How can Frank Wren not put the pieces around them to give them a chance?

Seriously…the amount of people that have recently started posting on this site who honestly thought we were going to contend in 2009 is alarming.

Like farting during a tornado, most will vanish by the time the season begins, let alone next week.

It’s not at all horrible and I’d even argue that it’s solid as hell.
Look at last year? Some picked them to go to the WS. A few injuries (and Frenchy) later, they’re fighting to stay out of the cellar.
It’s fucking baseball. Nobody knows what’s going to happen. I’d take the above lineup any day of the week.
by Bobby Cocks on Jan 8, 2009 2:51 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Thank god your not another Dr. Doom.
Your right. It’s baseball!!!!!! The mets and phillies could both have major injuries. Marlins prospects could flop. Braves could actually perform to their talent level. Were o.k. if we sign 2 more legit pitchers and a viable OF option. You can also throw some league minimums at Andruw Jones and Freddy Garcia. Take a chance. If they don’t make the sqaud o well. You lost 1 million in a bet that could have brought you alot more. Must sign others first.

I’m sure Terry Mcguirk and Scheurholtz will go to this website, and say “Boy, look at all these posts using all caps and bold lettering! They must be serious! They do have a point. Frank does suck and i do kinda wish he would die. Get Frank on the phone.”

I’m still in the anger phase of grief right now, so I don’t know if I care about a meeting. But I suppose its better than nothing.

Do not sign Derek Lowe. He’s old, his stuff isn’t great and he wants too much damn money.
by iLukeisamazing on Jan 8, 2009 11:36 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
Don’t spend the money, we’re not going to compete any more with Lowe than our other roster options.
