Cardinals sign Royce Ring

The Cardinals have signed former Atlanta Braves left-handed reliever Royce Ring.

We had designated him for assignment on August 2nd of last year. That essentially ends the whole Will Ledezma/Will Startup -- Macay McBride trade haul. Poor Royce was used weirdly by Cox last year. I thought he had more than Cox let him show. We used Ohman all the time, but didn't want to use Ring at all. Maybe it's just me, but I thought he had more to offer than we got out of him.

[UPDATE - 1/6/09, 8:13am]

Waddayaknow, it seems as though the Washington Nationals have signed Wil Ledezma. All of our former lefties are signing this week, could Will Ohman be far behind?

Royce was pretty damn solid as a LOOGY for a good bit of this past season.

I guess I should be one to talk.
There's nights that I can't even walk.
There's days I couldn't give a fuck.
And in between is where I'm stuck.

Yeah, I’m sure somebody can pull up the splits, but the first half of the year, before the rotation imploded and they used Ring as a situational lefty, he was pretty dominant. Hope he does well with St. Louis, Royce is a great guy.

i’m not even going to fangraphs for this…

vs RHB: .419/..471/..674
vs LHB: .264/.339/..396

thats a FOUR HUNDRED POINT OPS DIFFERENCE. and the numbers vs lefties were even lower before he started being used in full innings…his second half numbers are laughably bad. WHIP is, i shit you not, over 5

What was it that Boog kept calling his curveball? He kept saying it was “one of those texas rodeo curves” or something. Maybe I’m crazy though.
