I’m assured tonight by someone who’d know, [...] that Braves are still squarely in the mix for [Japanese starting pitcher and free agent, Kenshin] Kawakami.
D-Fab says we're still in on Kawakami
I don't know that he would be the ace we're looking for, but he would be a solid #2 or #3.

No he is no ACE but rather a solid #3 Type pitcher. This would be good to great addition assuming that we cough up the $$ on signing Lowe. 3/45 with an option should get this done but there has been a few reports on the Braves beating the Met’s offer of 3/36.
Mark Bowman doesn’t believe the Braves are willing to top the Mets’ reported offer, though. In another article, Bowman suggested Jon Garland and Andy Pettitte are more likely options.
Plus If I see either Garland or Pettitte in a Braves Uni…FW needs to consider another job. Spend the $$ for the 2-4 yr contract on Lowe and Kawakami plus a Swisher/Nady Trade and keep our talent in Farm system when they will be ready in ’11

KK
From what I’ve read (haven’t seen any video), KK seems like an OK investment. 3 years is a little much for a 33-year old with no MLB track record, but his component numbers in Japan look very good, and he doesn’t seem to have logged the heavy workload of other Japanese SPs like Matsuzaka.
