Around SBN: Knicks 90, Raptors 87: "Shump and Lin wouldn't let us lose."

The Braves signed their first baseman, Casey Kotchman, to a $2.885 million contract, avoiding arbitration, the Post has learned.

Kotchman had asked for $3.25 million through arbitration and the Braves had countered at $2.475 million.

Kotchman also can make an additional $25,000 by reaching each plate appearance total of 575, 600, 625 and 650. In addition, Kotchman can make $50,000 for winning the MVP, being an All-Star, earning the Gold Glove or bring the World Series MVP. He can take home $25,000 for winning the Silver Slugger or the LCS MVP.

Casey Kotchman is in the top third of the team in salary.

Wrap your head around that for a minute.

Hahaha this was good for a laugh why even negotiate this part for Kotchman. I mean come on.

I was thinking the same thing

Especially the MVP, and just 50,000 lol? I’d give him a couple million if he was the MVP, he would have earned it.

I think the best is still Sidney Ponson’s contract literature, when he was with the Cardinals: “Bonus of $50,000 for winning the NLDS MVP award.”

In case you missed it, there is no NLDS MVP award.

No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.

Is this Kotchman’s last year before free agency or does he have another year left.

by jack dein on Jan 31, 2009 7:56 PM EST reply actions

1 year after this

    * re-signed by LA Angels 1/18/08 (avoided arbitration) (1)

This year (2)

Next year (3)

I thought he was a “super two” player and under team control for 4 years of arbitration. Guess not. That sucks. Hopefully Freeman will be ready for 2011.

He may be…but I don’t think so. His contract was only renewed twice, but he’s got a fraction of a year in the ML

Kotchman's a super two

So the Braves have him for 2009, 2010, and 2011. Link.

The funny part is that the first Google result for simply “kotchman super two” (without the quotes) takes you this exact Talking Chop thread.

"OBP is not a production number, and should not be used as something he achieved."

Thanks for doing the research Victor. I tried searching and couldn’t find anything myself.

That’s funny. CNNSI’s Braves teampage has links directly to TC posts as well. TC is bigtime now!

WTF? I was trying to respond to Victor in the above post.
