Please no...
He’s been declining by about .7 wins a year since 2002. His bat is not what it once was, which wouldn’t be a deal killer if he wasn’t one of the worst defensive players in all of baseball. I would not want him were I a NL general manager. In the AL, there are a number of far inferior DH types that he could replace.
Welcome to TC, by the way. This place just keeps getting bigger and bigger!

What??
Adam Dunn declining? I think this guy has hit 40hrs for 4 or 5 straight seasons now! The Braves havent had a player with numbers like that since the Crime Dog and The Big Cat, dont remember them? Exactly my point! Theres really no one out there besides Manny who can really hit in the free agent market. Unless Wren can pull a trade for either Carlos Lee, Maggalio or Dye. Oh and Bobby is not your answer either

He’s talking about Abreu declining. Dunn wasn’t even mentioned in the post.

I guess I should be one to talk.
There's nights that I can't even walk.
There's days I couldn't give a fuck.
And in between is where I'm stuck.
it was just an idea cause of a 1 year deal and really cheap. i bet he would take 5 or 6 as it gets closer to spring training
Another problem with the 1-year deal is that it doesn’t alleviate the potential OF problem we’ll have in 2010. Will Schafer be our fulltime CF? Can FYF get his shit together? If those both happen we’ll have two positions filled, but it still leaves us with question marks in LF.
Just sign Dunn to a 2-year deal and be done with it.

It’s cool, Johnny Damon will be a free agent next offseason.

Why?
Damon’s not a bad player and has actually aged quite well. He was a 4 win player last year, contributing 2 wins each on hitting and fielding.

Becase he does nothing to help the severe lack of power we have in the OF

Wins are wins
Whether they come from offense, defense, or pitching, right?
Don’t get me wrong, I like watching 500 ft HRs as much as the next guy, but ultimately it’s about winning games. This isn’t HR Derby or World’s Strongest Man.

wait…are you saying we should sign Magnús Ver Magnússon for LF?

Okay, I'm not the only fan of WSM
I loved that dude (not in a gay way – the way one man loves watching another, much stronger man, lift things). He won or finished second for something 5 or 6 years in the 90’s. WSM is like the gentleman’s version of MMA, IMO.

Not only no, but hells no.
Bobby is the most overrated, non-hustling POS I have ever seen play in person. Sure, when he was here in Philly he had great numbers, but they were all garbage. Dude can’t hit after the 6th inning, and he doesn’t get a lot of errors in the OF because he doesn’t hustle. You won’t get an error if you don’t try?
No. Not that I have anything against the guy who posted this, but please don’t ever mention this waste of skin in the same breath as the Braves again. Unless, of course, it is in the phrase:
Gonzo strikes out Abreu on three straight pitches to win the game.
Given the way the Braves usually think ...
I’ll be shocked if Wren/Cox isn’t getting ready to overpay for Abreu right now. High batting average + Undeserved Gold Glove a few years ago + Veteran = Our new LFer.
Subject
When there is a subject your post is more likely to be responded to. We have add this discussion many a time and we have concluded that he isn’t what he used to be and is not worth the cash especially when Dunn is out there.
"The only time the Mets win is in the offseason"
then why did you even bother to read my post? and did you read all of it? he said that he would take a one year offer. and it was getting boring here nothing to read, just thought i would inject new blood. dunn aint the answer we need. we need a player that has all around skills not just one power. whats the stats say about how much dunn gives up on defense compared to offense ? No Dunn Please
ur wrong… thats all i have to say on the matter
"We win today, that's two in a row... if we win tomorrow, that's called a winning streak. It has happened before..."
Your post was one sentence what do you mean did I read all of it? Dunn isn’t that fastest guy around but he has a decent arm he isn’t going to kill us in left field. An outfielders defense is very important don’t get me wrong but it is blown WAY out of proportion on this site. Besides his speed and he does strikeout to much there is no reason why we shouldn’t TRY to spend 10 million a year on him. Inject new blood what the fuck does that mean I said this is a heavily debated topic so your not at all injecting new blood.

Not Sure
Bobby is a pretty good player over all and yes he could fill the spot until one of our minors are ready for the big show
but e just doesnt give the pop, power or really anything we need at the moment
i cant think of a definate reason to give him a big contract he’s an aging player whose speed is sliping away and he’s not the #4 hitter we need, he could bat 5, or 3 but Chipper isnt going anywhere and Mac is going to be our #5
he’s a good player but just not for us
This has been beat to death thirty different ways. What about potential trade partners and pieces?
I know we’ve discussed Dunn, Manny, and Bobby quite thoroughly. However, I haven’t run across to many potential trade rumors to fill our glaring OF hole.
We have quite a few pieces that can be dealt. Campillo, Morton, Reyes, Prado, Brandon Jones, Blanco, and Anderson come to mind. We also have many more prospects that were willing to deal than we won’t deal (aka Hanson, Freeman, Heyward, etc…..).
If we sign Glavine then I believe it’s inevitable that 1 of the 3 pitchers stated above are included in a package. If we sign Ohman do we start dealing some of the bullpen?
What OF trade options are out there (not Nady or Swisher)?
Will the WBC showcase some of the potential in our Panama crew and increase their value? Will it showcase the rest of the guys and increase value? Will we sign Andruw Jones?
What do you guys think
Why in the name of a blue moon would we wanna trade any of the young Panamanians for a rental?

If that rental is Magglio then I could get behind it.

It just seems to me that were stakcing up youth, potential talent, arms, and depth for the trade yet to come.
I just got this feeling that Wren is encouraging the younger guys not on 25 man roster to showcase talent. He’s stock piling for the winter and when a deal comes (whether it’s spring training or deadling) he’s gonna unload for whatever he needs.
The only need we have for Glavine is that he’s a lefty. We don’t need him and everyone knows were going to sign him. Our bullpen is deep. Our rotation is about to be deep. Our infield is locked. We have great bench and utility guys.
i swear to god if u imply that we need a lefty in our rotation… someone is gonna get kicked in the nuts (it wont be you cause i dont know where u are, but ill kick my roomate in his nuts)
"We win today, that's two in a row... if we win tomorrow, that's called a winning streak. It has happened before..."
What is it going to take?
How many times do we have to go over this before it gets through that thick skull of yours? A left-handed pitcher will BALANCE the rotation, irregardless of talent. In fact, the less talent the LHP has, the more BALANCED the rotation will be. Sheesh.

Now that you mention it, trading any of the young Panamanians for Ryan Ludwick does sound pretty appealing.

Is it time for pitchers and catchers yet? My head is about to explode from all these arguments.
THANK GOD the whole Peavy thing still isn’t being discussed.
