Jordan Schafer was keeping bad company
There are several stories out there this morning about our former top prospect Jordan Schafer and his suspension for HGH last year. He is essentially proclaiming his innocence in actually doing any drug, but admitting his guilt by association:
[Jordan Schafer says,] “So I was taking responsibility for what I did — and I was wrong for being around that. I should’ve never gotten around the situation. I never took a steroid or anything to make me better. But at the same time, I knew what was going on and I hung around those people and I didn’t say anything.”
He declined to go into further detail about what he knew, but said: “Somebody out there was trying to get me. Somebody was trying to attack me. It was totally wrong. But again, nobody forced me to make those decisions and hang around those people. I accept that responsibility.”
From the beginning this has been a cryptic suspension, since there is no test that MLB uses which can detect HGH. We know that most of the pushers of illegal stimulants hang around gyms, and we also know that Schafer is a "cage rat" and perhaps a "gym rat." There could be a connection between the folks who Jordan hangs out with at the gym and banned substances. At this point all we can do is guess, unfortuantely MLB has put a gag order on Jordan as part of the suspension. Acutally, I'm surprised he felt that he could say the stuff he said this week.

Meh.
The fact the MLB doesn’t (can’t?) test for HGH made me believe that this was the sort of case that wasn’t rock solid. I don’t know if he’s innocent, but I certainly don’t know that he’s guilty. The secrecy of the system makes it so that there can’t be any informed decisions about stuff like this.
Easy to deny when baseball won't respond
Schafer has been on this ‘i can’t talk about it but its not what you think’ crusade to ‘clear his name’ since he got suspended. I don’t know if he used HGH, I tend to doubt it based on his reaction but thats just a gut thing. MLB also probably doesn’t know, as there’s no test they could have given him. But rest assured, he got suspended and owned up (not appealing, apologizing to his teammates/organization) for something that they could prove related to HGH. At the least that means possession or distribution, and that’s all that really matters. He’ll be tainted by this for awhile, and while he may or may not have used he should just stuff the ‘innocent’ stuff, realize his responsibility for whatever he did, and play.
im sure he is… but my guess is he will continue to get questions… and its hard to give the answer u dont truly beleive over and over again… its hard to listen to people tell u u took HGH, if he didnt do it.

They wouldn’t suspend him without solid evidence. You don’t get suspended just because you know someone who does/deals steroids. Kind of like all the players with checks made out to proven steroid dealers who claimed they “bought steroids but didn’t take it.”

He was probably either holding/transporting it for someone, or was knowingly present in a place that contained HGH. Either way, I remember someone pretty much ratted him out. I always had the assumption that Carl Loadenthal told on him. I just think Carl was mad/jealous at him for being better at the position than him…
