Braves close to new radio announcing team
I passed along a report two weeks ago that the Braves were close to hiring Brewers play-by-play announcer Jim Powell. Today, David O'Brien reported that the Braves have indeed hired Power, and now hope to pair him with former Braves announcer Don Sutton, who is currently an announcer for the Washington Nationals.
Sutton was an announcer for the Braves for 18 season! Wow, I had no idea it was that long. I always enjoyed Sutton a color analyst, he usually had some really good insight into baseball situations and what might be going on in the clubhouse.
There was apparently supposed to be a news conference tomorrow, but the Braves are encountering difficultties getting Sutton out of his current contract with the Nationals.

Noooo
I was so sad when Sutton left, but now that I’m in Washington, I still get to hear him…I really have no reason to watch the Nats games now…
not sure even Don justifies watching a Nats game

Are the TV crews still staying the same…or has Chip realized no one likes him and gotten a network job?
BIG JOE SUCK ONE
I used to dig when Sutton would refer to a guy like Matt Franco as a “professional hitter” as if it was some sort of compliment.

Sutton
I always liked Sutton. What was the story with why they ran him out? I really like Simpson-the more air time he gets the better. However, I am REALLY going to miss Pete on the radio. Thinking about how he did a game makes me think that he might be one of the last of the old-classic announcers.
Powell is ok. I am from Milwaukee and listen to the Brewers games alot on XM Radio. I think the style that they used in Milwaukee would not go over well in ATL. Although I think he followed Bob’s style..which was a one man show that often wanders and actually makes the game something of a sideshow. Have to love Uecker..but sometimes I can start listening and it could take me 10 mintues to find out what team was hitting and what team was pitching.
I believe Sutton left when...
he found out TBS was going national, thus trimming the number of their broadcasts significantly. Perhaps that meant a pay decrease was on the way? Or some other issue issue with which he had a problem.
If Sutton is leaving television for radio, the Braves must be offering him a hefty sum in order to lure him away from the Nats. That, or working for that organization isn’t agreeing with him.
