Randy Winn or Aaron Rowand?
So here's what I've been hearing about the Giants. They are in the hunt for Manny Ramirez and if they did land him they would have to probably deal either Randy Winn or Aaron Rowand. We obviously still need an outfielder and these two are pretty solid. Winn has had 500 AB's the last 3 seasons. A down year of 262 avg in 2006 but 300 hitter in 07 and 08, he's a switch hitter too.
Rowand had 400 ABs in 2006. followed by 612 and 549. His avg went back and forth 262, 309, 271. I think a 3 year stat look is good enough to compare. Who would you prefer? I would prefer Winn. He'd be a nice compliment for Chipper. Time to think realistic lol.

Moron
What the hell is wrong with you? Winn is a solid player and better than the 3 OF’s we got. I guess you’re happy with shit in the outfield. At least some of us are trying to come up with ideas. Probably better than what Wren will actually come up with. It would suck having a career 288 hitter in the outfield huh?

Randy Winn is also going to be turning 35 in the middle of the 2009 season. If you haven’t noticed, one of the team’s apparent objectives is to get younger, not older. And power in the outfield is one thing that has been missing, and it’s sad to say, but guess who had one more homer than Randy Winn? Jeff Francoeur.
Aaron Rowand is also a guy I’d rather not see the Braves dump $50 mil into throughout the next four years. I see a guy who played over his head in 2007 to get his fat contract with the Giants, and more or less a career 17HR/70RBI/.270/.325/.410 kind of guy. Not totally horrific numbers overall, but certainly not warranting of $12-13mil a year.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.

Winn.
Who cares about age since his numbers were solid and haven’t slip in either of the last two seasons? Moreover, he’s an FA after the season and will only cost $8.25M in 2009, so the commitment is minimal. We could get Randy and cash if the price is too high, or include him in a package deal with Johnathan Sanchez. I’m not actively advocating his acquisition, but it’s far from inane to bring him up. He’s been more valuable than Blanco and Francouer, while being roughly equal to Anderson and Infante despite much more playing time to be exposed. If the price is right, I’d take him for my team…

If Winn is Wren’s answer to the power hitting outfielder we need, than it’s a terrible move.
If he is acquired to start over Blanco/FYF, that’s a different story. But that’s certainly not what the OP was bringing up.

Do you actually read anything on this site, or merely use it as a platform to purpose your ideas? If you’ve taken the time to read you’d know that I’m not okay with the OF we have now. I’ve already proposed my soluation numerous times dating back to last year. We need a power hitting outfielder. Winn is not that. Citing his BA is meaningless. SHUT THE FUCK UP.
And how the fuck is he a good compliment to Chipper? You want to bat him in between Chipper and McCann?

No, I just don’t feel the need to start up a fanpost every time that I get a bright idea.
And according to Yakker it appears as though Dave Roberts would be the one who is dealt. Did you even bother to look anything up?

Yes I went to trade rumors buddy. They said they’d move either Roberts, Rowand, or Winn.

Awesome.
You still havn’t answered my question of where in the order Mr. Winn will bat. Saying he’d be a great compliment to Chipper means you either want him hitting 2nd or 4th.

With his average, I’d put Winn 2nd giving Chipper more rbi opportunities than with KJ in 2nd. I’d keep Mac in the 4th and drop KJ to 5. I really like the idea of Mac as clean up. Wren seems to like Mac in the 5 spot though.
by mrrich95 on Jan 2, 2009 6:49 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Wouldn’t Winn be better at leadoff? And Escobar bats second and KJ bats 5th? Seems like that looks best to me.

You mean less RBI opportunities since KJ is a better hitter than Winn
And Bobby Cox does the lineups, not Frank Wren.
by VictorW on Jan 4, 2009 1:29 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Hmmm...
Rowand is 31 and thus is likely past his prime, has 4/$44M left on his contract, hasn’t been all that durable and will likely only get worse in that regard, only has an .800 OPS over the past three seasons despite his fluke 2007 proping it up higher than it should be and a thin track record overall, his defense is slipping… shall I go on?
As for Winn, he can block a trade to ten teams, so he’d have to want to end up in Atlanta. That said, I like what he’s done over the last two seasons and this is his walk year, so the commitment is minimal if he fails and he won’t block anyone if he’s just average. If the price is right, I wouldn’t mind getting him.

Is he ~$8 million better than Blanco/Anderson? Also, with limited resources, his salary is most of what the Braves would spend on that elusive “Impact Bat”. It seems like the Braves already have 3 hitters similar to him in KJ, Escobar, and Kotchmann (obviously, they each have different skillsets, but the OPS is roughly equal). IMO, using prospects and/or payroll on Winn would be counterproductive.

No
Rowand is severely overpaid and an injury risk.
Winn’s not a bad idea, though. He’s due $8.25M and by conservative estimates is a 2-3 win player in LF. Not sure the Giants need to deal him, though. Fred Lewis isn’t exactly knocking down the door for PT. And I think Sabean’s higher priority is dealing Dave Roberts.

I would be for Winn comin to the Atlanta
as long as we dont have to give up much except eat the remaining of his contract. Is he 8 million better than Blanco? Not sure but no doubt he is much better now than Blanco is without a doubt. And we still have a good bit of cash left to spend so 8M for him doesn’t sound too bad especially since the Braves dont sound too enthusiastic about Dunn or Blanco. Winn is a switch hitter, he has decent pop(hit 10 homers last year and he plays in top 3 pitchers park in baseball, maybe 15 homers playin half his games in Turner field is a possibilty) he can play good defense in LF, he can be our leadoff hitter in 2009, has a good OBP, good average, can steal bases stole 25 last year and only got caught 2 times thats damn good. If we can get him for a prospect that wont ever really amount to much then why not? We have cash to spend and we NEED a LF and Braves FO doesn’t seem to want Dunn or Burrell so Winn seems logical to me.

Well
I would prefer of course more homers from a LF no doubt but if its between Blanco or Brandon Jones or Matt Diaz in LF i would choose Winn. I guess a platoon of Jones or Blanco and Diaz could work good but like i said if we can get Winn without given up much and just eatin the contract then im all for it. But if we dont get Winn then its not a big deal either.

Also since when is a .306 AVG, and a .363 OBP not acceptable? I didn’t just use AVG when i made my point. I added that he plays GOOD LF defense(Which Wren and the Braves WANTS), he HAD a good AVG, good OBP, good Steal ratio(25 steals and only got caught 2 times), he can be our Leadoff guy. I mean Hizilla you are a damn moron. Did you EVEN look at his stats before you spouted off with your big mouth? Might have been but i just got done talkin about Average also though talkin about Winn havin a good average so not sure, IF he wasn’t talkin to me then he can ignore my post. But either way why is he tellin somebody to find another blog? If somebody was sayin crap repeadedly and insulting folks all the time then fine he should leave to find another blog but just mentioning a stat on his post shouldn’t warrent somebody tellin him to leave. What you think Gondee and others that run this site think about somebody tellin another poster to leave just because he mentioned a stat? If somebody doesn’t like what that poster says then he can point it out like AVG is not the best stat to use or whatever instead of sayin find another blog.
