by the time i get home from class tomorrow night, i expect to see that we’ve signed him for the league minimum
BIG JOE SUCK ONE
I don’t think we’re in that much of a hurry. I think we’ll eventually sign him, but I wonder if it will be a minor league contract. There’s no reason for the Braves to use a roster spot on him.
… no reason to use a roster spot on him at this point. If he proves he can come back during spring training, then we can add him to the roster.
Good Point
Thats a good point by gondee! Invite him to Spring Training and make him earn his roster spot. Come to camp in shape and ready to play. The beauty of this whole thing is we can sign Andrew at the League Mimimum and if struggles we can sit him or release him and give way for Scafer, Hernandez or B. Jones..

I doubt Gorkys is going to be ready for big-league action this year.

The Braves should require...
a weekly weigh-in even if he can make the team out of ST. He seems to have the Big Papi / Prince Fielder metabolism.
let's not get carried away here
A Jones is no where NEAR the size of those two.

No, but...
it could be just a matter of time!
With what he’s done over the past two years on the field, I’d be incensed if they gave him a major league deal. He only deserves a minor league deal and an invitation to spring camp.
Oh, Bobby.
Andruw was wearing a Braves hat at a college basketball game!
mlbtraderumors.com reports:
“8:29pm: Several e-mailers have pointed out that Andruw Jones is in attendance at the Duke-Georgia Tech men’s basketball game and is wearing an Atlanta Braves hat. Interesting, eh?”
I don’t know about you, but I’m excited. I hope Atlanta signs him.
If Andruw has a starting job for the Braves this coming year something will have gone very wrong. I have zero faith in him being able to resurrect his career.
Alot of players have.....
bounced back from bad years. Why not Andruw. I look forward to him playing for 400k and having a decent season. We have nothing to lose and everything to gain. I think I will actually be upset if we don’t give him a shot!
It sounds like he isn’t interested in a minor league deal, so if we do sign him to a league minimum contract who gets kicked off the current roster?
I guess I should be one to talk.

My vote would be Ridgeway
We are pretty deep at SP/long relief now, so he would be missed the least. I am interested in seeing what Logan and O’Flaherty can do this year in ST and Hernandez needs to be protected.

I’m rusty when it comes to the rules of swapping players between the majors and the minors…would we lose any of those players in that case? Are they “out of options” as they say?
I do agree with your general line of thinking.

If it is Ridgeway
I think he was only called up once or twice, so even if he does have that clause, he should have a few callups to go before he is free.

If you’re taking somebody off the 40 man roster, they have to pass through waivers, so there’s always the chance you could lose them.
Aside from that, after a certain amount of playing time, (I’m not sure how much, but it’s something more than a season’s worth of games, definitely they can do it if they have more than 6 years in the minors and thus would be able to be a minor league free agent anyway) a player can elect free agency rather than be outrighted to the minors. I don’t think this applies to any of the guys we’ve mentioned though.
I really can’t see them chancing losing a player to put Andruw on the roster.
Thanks guys.

Actually, they changed the way options work a few years back. You used to get a finite number that could only be used within your first three years. Now, you get unlimited options on a player for his first four years in the majors. Now that I’ve written that I’m thinking it may still only be three, but the unlimited part is right; you can send a guy up and down as many times as you want.
