not afarid to admit i'm wrong

I could be wrong about having to spend to win.  At least I hope i'm wrong.  I just get tired of us losing out on free agents and losing players because we can't afford them.  I do think you that some off-seasons like this season, we needed to spend to fill some gaps that we have in the line-up.  We really have not done much to improve maybe and just maybe this off-season we needed to spend a little more then we have  : 0 )

It’s not over yet. I’m hoping Wren still has a few tricks up his sleeve, but if he ends up spending the money of somone like John Garland and Emil Brown…well, then I’ll voice my displeasure. Not yet though…

I guess I should be one to talk.

Good Gravy--Emil Brown?!?!?

I think that might cause bigjoe to just go ahead and cut the whole thing off.

Oh man, rockin the Emil Brown. Almost as good as Borchard, but doesn’t have his starter qualities.

Still in the camp that Frank Wren is an idiot…But I will still give him until opening day to finsih up things before I start the “Fire FW!” campaign…

Tonight we're gonna party like it's 1995!

Wren will either look like a genius or Nero by August. It will take that long. Smoltz first said he’d be ready in April now he’s telling people June. Who knows. A half year of an unhealthy Smoltz heck the Braves probably gonna be out of it by June unless this staff is way better than I think it is. However, add Lowe and maybe Garland and trade for Nady then …..could be……we’ll see…….wee wee……

If you’re looking to win, Garland is not the answer

Garland..you are probably right….but maybe one of the mid level Free agents that remain. I hate to try Sheets if we didn’t want to try Smoltz but I haven’t heard if Sheets is ready to go now or not since he had that arm shoulder elbow whatever trouble at the end of the season last year.

BIG JOE SUCK ONE

by bigjoe on Jan 12, 2009 12:16 PM EST up reply actions

Given that he's under contract for next year only, no

The worst thing that Wren could do right now is start giving out one-year deals, which is essentially what a trade for nady would be.

by VegasAces on Jan 12, 2009 12:20 PM EST up reply actions

Hmmm

The BoSox are giving out tons of one-year deals, and they’re a very well run club. With the crap economy there are going to be some serious bargains on one-year deals.

Worst comes to worst, you can trade them at the deadline

by Bravenewworld on Jan 12, 2009 1:24 PM EST up reply actions

True…although they do have some more payroll flexability than we do. And aside from Kotsay, those deals seem to have a much higher reward possibility that trading for Nady. Although I’m not all that high on him in the first place.

I guess I should be one to talk.

a lot of their one year deals are low risk, high reward kinda things to fill supporting roles.

Good Show

Well, coachg3, I gotta say I’ve got a new found respect for you today. Any man who can make a strong statement, step back and re-analyze, then come back and admit that he may not be as “right” as he thought is ok by me. That’s an exceptional quality in my book.

As to your point, I think we can all feel your frustration. As I said, jokingly, in a previous post, it seems we’ve laid a 4 lb poopy this off-season so far. Thank goodness it’s not over yet and there are still options available to us. Personally I’m trying my damnedest to wait until at least ST to make my judgment, though that’s tougher said than done. Hang in there!
