Yasser Gomez in the outfield?
MLBTR pointed out an update on the two recent Cuban defectors, Yasser Gomez, an outfielder, and Yadel Marti, a pitcher. They're attempting to get an agent and are supposedly "open to all teams", but specifically name the Yankees, White Sox, and Red Sox in this video interview. They are supposed to be major-league ready and do expect to be with major league clubs by the start of Spring Training.
Gomez, a career .331 hitter, hit .397 with 51 runs and 41 RBIs in 66 games during the 2008 national series tournament.
Here are some more of Gomez's stats. Now, I was thinking since we have a few Cuban defectors in our system already, and one rising star on our roster in Escobar, maybe we can convince Gomez to sign with us as the outfielder we need. Just a thought.

I would be up for signing this guy, but not with the expectations of him being the left fielder we need.
Definitely Marti
I swear I made a post on here a while ago … must’ve just hit the preview button I guess. Anyway, that was exactly my point. Gomez doesn’t appear to fit our needs, though I won’t say he’s not worth taking a flier on, but Marti does. A 29 year old starting pitcher, hells yeah – sign him! I also don’t believe either are “major league ready” but I can’t believe they are too far off.

I am gonna lean towards no
Gomez seems to be a player whom a financially sound team could sign as a 4th outfielder, and I am sure the White Sox will look at both of them as options. Gomez though should not be considered for the left field option, as we need a middler of the order bat or pure power bat for that position.

Total Speculation alert!
I think we may be getting close to our payroll threshold, especially if we sign Lowe. the rumored salary for Kawakami is 6-7 mil, so…
Vazquez=12 mil
Kawakami=7
Lowe=15-17?
Total=34-36 million. Just guessing that would be near our spending limit. Whats the running rate for major league ready Cuban defectors?
FIRE FRANK WREN! GO RED SOX! I HATE THE BRAVES! SAY GOODBYE TO MY 9 GAME FLEX PLAN MONEY! YOU'LL NEVER SEE ME AGAIN!
I hope not
We still need outfield help. Do you think Lowe will get that much? The Mets offered 3 and 36 I believe, so 3 and 38-40 would hopefully get him.
Guys I hate to break it to you but the mets offer 3 years 36 million was just a joke. They offered that before they even had an ounce of competition, wait til their next offer. My guess is 3 years 42-44 million. Which IMO I wouldn’t sign the guy for 3 years 36 million.

Marti pitched very well in the WBC against ML players. In consecutive starts, he pitched 8.3 inning and allowed 5 hits against lineups featuring Miguel Cabrera, Bobby Abreu, Magglio Ordonez, Ramon Hernandez, Victor Martinez, Edgardo Alfonzo, Omar Vizquel, Placido Polanco, Miguel Tejada, Albert Pujols, David Ortiz, Adrian Beltre, Moises Alou, Wily Mo Pena, Alberto Castillo and Willy Taveras. Throws a fastball up to 90 mph, as well as a slider, sinker, and curve. Short guy, 5’10" max, allegedly 29 years old, slow delivery with a big hitch. He is maxed out at 29 and isn’t likely to improve much but could be a mid-rotation guy
