Bobby Cox's assessment of Parr
The veteran skipper said that his new pitcher was "sneaky quick" and likened him to Chuck James, who proved effective until left shoulder problems began bothering him midway through the 2007 season.
"It's almost identical," Cox said. "You wonder how they do it. Nobody got out in front of [Parr's pitches]. He has that knack."
Do you think Cox making this comparison to James is a good thing? How does comparing a young pitcher to another pitcher who has not performed well bode for his confidence? Since Cox will undoubtly be the manager next year with alot of young players, how do you think he fares in cultivating and building their confidence on his team?

the thing is, Parr’s track record isn’t nearly as good as Jame’s was and he has the same type of flyball tendencie’s that James has. Also, Chuckie could always fall back on the fact that he was left handed which can be an advantage up to a certain point. I still think that Parr could be useful, but I don’t think his first start is indicative of what to expect from him. (Granted a 0.00 ERA really can’t be expected from anyone I guess)

He's like Chuck James?
Better ship him off while he still has value then.

Jumping to Conclusions
Chuck James is not done in Atlanta, he won 11 games in both of his first 2 seasons! His struggles have more than likely been a product of his shoulder problems that might have been caused because the Braves relied on him too heavily. His arm has weakened to the point to where he has to sacrifice either control or effectiveness when he throws his fastball. I wouldn’t be surprised if he needs surgery. The Braves have a habit of downplaying potential injuries caused from fatigue, (Smoltz, Soriano, Moylan)

You're right
He’s just an easy target to joke about.
He’s given us 270 so innings at a league average ERA, which is valuable. I don’t think he’ll be done either and I was actually about to write a short post about him and I’ll save it for that.

Chuck James actually has a partial tear in his rotator cuff. From my understanding he can’t have surgery until it’s a complete tear? I’m sure once he comes back from surgery he will be an effective ML pitcher again. Reliever perhaps since he’s never been able to go deep in his starts even when he was healthy.
