Deez Nats @ Braves Open Thread: Game 1
Washington Nationals at Atlanta Braves, Sep 4, 2008 7:10 PM EDT
Everybody grab a stiff drink we have yet another rookie starting pitcher toeing the mound for us today. James Parr will make his major league debut against the Nats. I do think he's a much better option that Blow-Jo Reyes, and we need to explore all the options we can at this point.
We are five games in front of the Nats, who have been on a tear lately, so this series is more about avoiding last place than anything else. Good luck.

being in last place benefits us a lot more than not being in last place

if the nats sweep us, they’ll only have a 3 game lead, which is more than doable in the 3 and a half weeks remaining on the year. KC & pittsburgh are in a DEAD HEAT with us…pirates blew a lead today and lost, and the royals blew a 4 run lead and are in extras right now. they’re our main competition right now

Anderson Hernandez? He’s got two last names.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.

Diasagree with Joe
Just something stupid, really. He was talking about coming to the big leagues and catchers (and other players) getting all new gear, and how minor leaguers have to put up with not so good stuff. It made me think of a few things. First of all, many of the guys get the personalized bats. Cody Johnson, Tyler Flowers, Travis Jones all do, but so do Adam Coe and Michael Fisher. Those are just the bats I’ve seen for myself. Johnson, Jones, and Flowers I can understand, but I’d think the other guys – well, you know. I’d think not. I know there are a lot of minor leaguers who don’t get the good stuff, but if a guy can get an agent, he can even get nice stuff like shoes and batting gloves and whatnot. I was in Myrtle Beach when Phillip Britton got his new catcher’s gear, and it was very cool, and I got a shot this year in Rome of a catcher named Benji Johnson decked out in his new duds. And I’m thinking to myself, Benji Johnson? Anyway, it was quite an impressive little outfit. I think the minor leagues have changed a bit since Joe was there. Maybe not too much, but some.

And Tyler Flowers has a homerun tonight with one of his personalized bats for MB in the playoffs…..

unfortunately, the beach made the inexplicable decision to start rivas, who as expected, got absolutely shelled

Where are those Kelly haters?
He is a very good offensive player. It is a shame we’ll trade him this offseason. Is Kelly Johnson for Jonathan Sanchez a fair trade? Should we ask for more?

i’d enjoy that greatly

Is Sanchez arb. eligible? This is his third year of service. Anyway, the K/9 inning ratio is good, but you have to wonder about giving up Kelly for a pitcher that could very well go under the knife next year. I believe he has shoulder issues.
by NEBravesFan33 on Sep 4, 2008 9:31 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
no he’s not, he’s only got 1.071 years of eligibility coming into this year. his numbers aren’t there this season, but his RAW STUFF is awesome.

Nice outing by Parr. A walk every other inning is a problem, but for his first start I’ll certainly take it.
I guess I should be one to talk.
There's nights that I can't even walk.
There's days I couldn't give a fuck.
And in between is where I'm stuck.

…with Parr from tonight. Throw his name in the hat for next year’s rotation.

guys. it was THE NATIONALS. i’m well aware we play 19 games against them, but those games will be balanced out by the philly offense. HE’S NOT THE SECOND COMING.

Weird stuff going down on Peachtree St. when I left work to go to the game...
Can’t find anything in the news about it, but maybe it’ll show up tomorrow. I guess this was some promotion for the new 50 story high rise they just finished next door (“93 residences starting at $1million+”)…
