I think it's time..
…to shut JJ down. He’s defiantly showing fatigue from throwing so many innings..

It only took me that long to finish my hw!
As long as he isn’t increasing his risk of injury by pitching (watch that pitch count!), I think it’s okay to let him start the rest of the season just to get used to the innings load for when it matters.

phillies and Braves
I agree. JJ is wearing down. No more. Shut him down and get ready for ’09. We win one tomorrow with HAMPTON.

I disagree...
I think he still needs to be pitching some, just on more rest . Well, it’s almost over now anyway….probably one more start, maybe next Wednesday or Thursday. Young pitchers have to get stretched out and used to pitching over a 162 game schedule. If we were still in contention would you “shut him down”? If your answer is no, then why not?

Your right..
…but at the same time. Shut him down, you get gassed your mechanics go to hell and when that happens there is always a risk of injury and the last thing we need is another pitcher to go down.
He’s proved he can pitch at the ML level – missing one last start isn’t going to hurt anything in the grand scheme of things. So shut him down, we’ve got enough pitchers with expanded rosters that it wouldn’t hurt to skip his next start which might be his final one anyways,

jurrjens is gassed. don’t you dare run him out there again.
Following the Braves...one long hard drink at a time.

I like Jurrjens, but I’ve been thinking this for about his last five starts. Players in all sports tend to hit a wall, especially if they’ve never done it before. NBA rookies tend to hit a wall after about 40 or so games, since that’s what they did (or didn’t play) in college (if they went). Similarly in the NHL, with young players not realizing that they’re fatigued even if their bodies are.
No sense is putting Jurrjens back out there with sub-par stuff, and risk him hurting himself or developing poor habits from trying to pitch out of discomfort. He’s had an awesome season as was; I’d have preferred to see the season end with a single-digit in the loss column but what’s done is done, so let’s let him rest up and enjoy out the remainder of the year.
btw – bigjoe, email me your address so i can ship you your winter hat.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.

I was worried
I’m with all of you, shut him down, but last night I wasn’t sure Bobby was on the same page. I thought he might send him out there for the 6th, glad he didn’t. I think the key indicator to him being gassed is that walk total, he has lost his control, mainly due to fatigue I believe.

Shut him down and save him
for next season. Hell, this ones over, why waste him
Hell, no! A tie is like kissing your sister!
