charlie morton shut down for season
from the AJC:
"The Braves revealed last week that Morton has been pitching with pain in his shoulder blade. He has received multiple cortisone shots, but they are bringing him less and less relief."

not too surprising given how this season has turned out. frankly, i don't think he should have been pitching with that much pain to begin with, especially given the lack of any kind of consequences for this season. it's nice to get some major league innings but not if it could be damaging to a young, promsing arm.

Amen
Experience is only good if you’re pitching under normal conditions – e.g., when you’re healthy. If someone is playing while injured, it’s not tough, it’s stupid. Not only are they not as good, but there is a strong chance that they will pick up bad habits at the plate or on the mound which will further injure them or mess up their performance once they do return to health. Bad idea to let him pitch through pain.

I think I jinxed him.
I wonder what caused the injury. Mechanics flawed? Fragile shoulder? Freak injury?

Ability and Potential
The fact that he could end up being a very good pitcher, and that he pitched in 2008 is what caused the injury. But seriously, have you read about Mike Marshall, the former pitcher who runs pitching camps now? He claims that the pitchers who use his mechanics add to their fastball and experience fewer injuries.

This is a joke...
…right?
"Have you ever had your heart broken?"
"Yeah, when we lost the pennant in '87."
