Braves Sign Dr. James Andrews to Three-Year Contract
Tim Hudson will undergo Tommy John surgery tomorrow in Pensicola, Florida, performed by Dr. James Andrews. While he's down there, he'll have some company. Reliever Rafael Soriano will be examined today by Andrews in an effort to determine what the cause of Soriano's elbow discomfort is.
This is especially troubling news since Soriano has already had Tommy John surgery on his right elbow in August of 2004. The surgery then was not done by Andrews, but by Dr. Lewis Yocum in Los Angeles.
The good news is that Chipper Jones is scheduled to come off the disabled list tomorrow, and Tom Glavine should return to the Braves after a succesful rehab start on Saturday.

Soriano to Andrews
Shouldn’t we have done that months ago? Just send all our pitchers to him now for preemptive TJ surgery.
Joba got back with a good prognosis from Andrews, just another example of how UNBELIEVABLY UNLUCKY we have been this year.

I had no idea that a positive prognosis was something Andrews gave out.
I guess I should be one to talk.

There's days I couldn't give a fuck.
And in between is where I'm stuck.

Here’s what Will Carroll over at BP said about Joba:
Chamberlain had his visit with Jim Andrews and came away with a diagnosis of “rotator cuff tendonitis.” If you’re a bit disappointed with the non-specificity here, you’re hardly alone. It not only doesn’t tell us much, it doesn’t match up with what we know. Worse, it’s the same initial diagnosis that was given to Jorge Posada, who was later found to have a rotator cuff tear.

The initial report on Smoltz from Andrews...
was “inflamed rotator cuff”. We all know how that worked out…..

Umm...
...why didn’t we send Soriano to Andrews in the first place? Paying him $6 million to not pitch next year is going to be fun.

Yeah, but I’d rather know about it in advance and try to fill the spot during the spring, than be counting on him to fill a role and then have to scramble when he can’t do it. Let’s get all of this crap out of the way right now – anyone else wanna make the short flight to Birmingham?
Cue Ben Stein – “Boyer?.....Boyer?”

Yeah, I’m an idiot…didn’t pay attention to the year that Soriano had his first TJ surgery.
