ROHRBOUGH TO THE BEACH

Scout.com is reporting that Cole Rohrbough has been promoted to Myrtle Beach.  He has been dominant his last few times out and nearly threw a no-hitter his last time out despite having what he referred to as below average stuff.   He seems to have recovered from injuries which have scewed his numbers.  Baseball america seems to believe that he has turned a corner and should bolt through the minors.  His K:IP ratio is distgusting.

That...

...is some cool news. Thanks for passing it along. Rohrbough is a special pitcher who is not too far away.

Sweet.

Maybe he can spray that ‘rust be-gone’ on Glavine and Hampton and we might win a few more ML games.

Hopefully he can continue to shake the injury bug off, because looking at his peripherals is like a dream come true for a pitcher.

Rohrbough.

Like Locke, he has the stuff to make weak stats OK from time to time. Young kids are going to struggle and, as long as they’ve had success and the stuff to back it up, I don’t mind it. Let’s hope Cole stays healthy from here on out!

Casey Hodges

So what are the chances Casey Hodges gets bumped up from Danville to take Rohroughs spot in the rotation? He has been dominating in the Rookie league and has a 1.36 ERA in 50 IP

Well

I would certainly say that he needs to face tougher competition, but I wonder if they might put Jacob Thompson at Rome for his first pro start.

Speaking of pitchers in Rome...

...Kevin Goldstein over at BP included Erik Cordier in last week’s Monday Ten Pack:

Speaking of first impressions, Cordier took more than a year to make one with Atlanta. Acquired from the Royals last year for shortstop Tony Pena Jr., Cordier missed all of last season recovering from Tommy John surgery, and despite previously showing loads of promise, he was entering the season with just 87 1/3 professional innings under his belt. Sent to Rome after a trio of warm-up outings in the Gulf Coast League, Cordier is once again showing promise, allowing just three hits and one run over 5 2/3 innings on Friday night, which actually raised his ERA to 1.56 in four starts. His velocity is already clicking in the low 90s and touching 96, and his above-average changeup has hard, late fade. He’s struggling to command his curveball, a common problem for those coming back from TJ surgery, but it projects as an average offering at least. If he can stay healthy, he’s a very solid pitching prospect.

I guess I should be one to talk.

That is awesome news… Could work out great for a player that JS would have had to DFA if he couldnt find a suitor

Indeed…I was really skeptical about the deal last year since we got a young pitcher who’s already had TJ, but this is good news.

BTW…Pena sucks this year. .148/.169/.196

I should say…as skeptical as one could be for what Pena’s value was.

assuming he doesn’t pitch for a week…he’s only gonna get about 2, maybe 3 starts.

Following the Braves...one long hard drink at a time.
