Braves @ Lincecum: Afternoon Game

Atlanta Braves at San Francisco Giants, Aug 6, 2008 3:45 PM EDT

If there is such a thing as a mercy rule in baseball, then it may have to be applied in this game. Chuck James versus Tim Lincecum -- the results could be eye-popping.

The old Mr. Glass did pretty good last night. Too little too late, but maybe he's upping his trade value and we can get some sort of middling prospect for a team desperate to replace an injured starting pitcher.

errors are a stupid stat.

I guess I should be one to talk.
There's nights that I can't even walk.
There's days I couldn't give a fuck.
And in between is where I'm stuck.

by Smoltz's Beard on Aug 7, 2008 12:30 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

johnson has a higher RF, but escobar has a better ZR. and “thumbs” tends to refer to the fact that he makes a lot of errors. so yeah

Following the Braves...one long hard drink at a time.

by bigjoe on Aug 7, 2008 6:02 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Well…errors are extremely subjective so I don’t pay attention to them anymore. With that being said, the reason he’s called “Thumbs” is because he looks like a butcher out there. I was the #1 anti-Kelly person on this site b/c of his defense, but after looking at how BP rates him…he’s playing well above average and is actually almost equal to Yunel is every stat:

Escobar
Rate: 109
RAR: 21
RAA: 8

Johnson
Rate: 108
RAR: 22
RAA: 8

And now for some comparison’s to the two Gold Glovers of last year (all stats below are 2008 stats):

Jimmy Rollins
Rate: 99
RAR: 11
RAA: -1

Orlando Hudson
Rate: 113
RAR: 28
RAA: 13

I apologize Kelly!

I guess I should be one to talk.
There's nights that I can't even walk.
There's days I couldn't give a fuck.
And in between is where I'm stuck.

The Braves...

...really need to close the book on Chucky. He’s proven to be nothing more than a AAAA pitcher at best.

by RainDelay on Aug 6, 2008 4:41 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

hopefully he’ll be nontendered or traded this winter. maybe dayton would take him on…i mean, he’s got HORACIO RAMIREZ as well as davies and mahay over there

Following the Braves...one long hard drink at a time.

by bigjoe on Aug 6, 2008 4:43 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Well..

...non tendered seems more like it. I don’t think we could even get a bucket of balls for him at this point. Unless someone is in need of organizational filler.

by RainDelay on Aug 6, 2008 4:48 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Even if someone was looking

would you want to fill your organization with Chuck “BP” James?

by mburris1 on Aug 6, 2008 4:49 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

They're...

...always teams looking to add filler. Hell maybe the Long Island Ducks or some other Indy team could use him.
