Braves @ Nationals Open Thread: Game 1
Atlanta Braves at Washington Nationals, Aug 29, 2008 7:35 PM EDT
I'm in Washington and I'll be at tonight's game rooting for the Braves and wearing my 755 shirt. I don't have tickets yet, but I'm hoping to get scalped tickets. I had good luck in Baltimore getting pretty good seats for half of face value -- that's what I'm going for tonight.

Noticed you went back on yesterday’s game board and added pics. Why so late?

I'm pulling my hair out
so many chances lately to break games open only to ground into an inning ending DP. WTF!

Well, even though the game was over relatively early,
apparently there’s some other sport called football – go figure. ;) GA Tech had their first game last night, and I have to go right past there to get home. Traffic was a complete nightmare no matter what street or highway you got on. Apparently it was over at the same time as our game. Oh yeah, and dragon-con is this weekend, too.

And apparently I took 411 pictures, so it took a minute to upload them and pick out the relative ones to post. Sigh, I can’t help it, I’m a picture fiend. Editing the rest now.

Dragon Con
I think I’m gonna check it out. Brandon Sanderson will be there writing the last book for the late Robert Jordan. Wheel of Time series…great reads.
I’m an IU graduate, so I don’t really get into college football. Sucks to be me.

Traffic!
Be aware that they are shutting down all but one lane of the connector both ways this weekend!! Would Skip love that, or what? Plus some other football game is going on Saturday at the dome, plus a free Christian music concert on the south side – and who knows what else.
I don’t think it sucks to be you. Football = no interest. Long live baseball!
So who are you going to dress up as (for Dragon Con)?

Hit it in the air!
Yunel hits into so many double plays, I’d rather him take strike 3
by cireland3 on Aug 29, 2008 7:52 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Of course they come right back and score

Sounded like a good catch by Imhotep.
Did I spell that right?
by Lizziebeth on Aug 29, 2008 8:00 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Correct spelling
Run of the mill catch.

this game is turning south
and quickly.

Yeah, pretty average catch
do you think he’s 2nd base next year?
by cireland3 on Aug 29, 2008 8:11 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Stick with KJ
Imhotep is far more useful as a super utility type of guy than an everyday guy.
He is having a good year, but his career numbers aren’t jaw dropping and counting on him for 150 games is risky if he reverts to the mean.

Heap really reached for that one
but we’ll take it.

Who's idea was it to put Escobar in the 5 slot?
He’s one of my favorite players. See -——————>
But he’s a groundball magnet.
by VictorW on Aug 29, 2008 8:37 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Totally agree
You don’t put a guy who grounds into a lot of DP’s with no power into the 5 slot. I’d like to see him at the 2 spot and Martin Prado at the 5.
Hell with it, move Frenchy to the 4 or 5 spot.

Nationals' Presidents race > real Presidential race

Campillo's just not the same pitcher right now
Dunno if he’s gased from the innings, the heat, or whatever, but he’s not the same pitcher he was earlier in the season. Missing his spots more often and more hanging pitches.

rice vs smu > braves vs nationals. sorry
Following the Braves...one long hard drink at a time.
by bigjoe on Aug 29, 2008 8:54 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Some dumbass
named their team the smuuuuuuuuuuuuuuus? And they’re playing against some grain? WTF?! Oh, that other “sport”…
Just kidding, still a little bitter from the nasty football traffic last night. :)
should at least be grain alcohol, though.

Oh noes!
How do the Braves suck ass against the Nats?
It just boggles the mind.

Wooo hooo!
The little guys are doing all the heavy lifting tonight.

Nice observation. Now I can’t stop staring at it

That’s true color.

Heap being a man's man? Or just tempting fate?
by Lizziebeth on Aug 29, 2008 9:37 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Ahhhhh....
not sure; some pics it looks like, some not! But it is thin and blonde, so maybe that’s part of the illusion…

I'm pretty sure...
…he’s losing hair; I’ve seen a couple of shots on TV when it really seemed obvious. Not that I have anything against guys without hair…some of my favorite guys have some hair loss, like, oh, I don’t know, maybe this fine looking fellow…

So ATJ is taking base sliding lessons from Heap?

Can I go back to disliking Chip
for getting so freaking excited over the other team’s plays? So nauseating.

Gotta get Yuni out of that 5th spot.

#@*$@#*$
3 Vidros for Yunel tonight. Gees. I think I jynxed him or something.

He's scary bald
Never really noticed those tattoos on him until now. Bald… Tattoos… Facial hair… Is he starring in American History X or something?
by VictorW on Aug 29, 2008 10:16 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Ha ha!
The tats have been growing. Of course, you don’t see them when he pitches due to the long sleeved shirts.
Here’s one of the other arm I took a few weeks ago (his first daughter’s name):

And all this time
I just thought he liked to keep his arms warm.
He’s spending a lot of time with Hampton. I hope Moylan’s not asking Hampton for rehab advice

23 GIDP for Yunel on the season
Only people ahead of him:
Vlad Guerrero – 26
Derrek Lee – 24
Miguel Tejada – 24

Nice barehand by Chipper
He’s freaking good at those

Yikes error on Yunel
This isn’t his night.
by VictorW on Aug 29, 2008 10:17 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Looks like
most of my action shots of Yuni last night came out blurry. Hate that.
Here’s another fairly clear one, and a cute one of Greg White from BP:

by Lizziebeth on Aug 29, 2008 10:31 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Yeah was trying to find a picture online of Yunel throwing or something
But hard to take it without blurring. Blanco’s ankle looks painful.
Are these all from the same day? Looks like you’re getting angles from all over the place.
by VictorW on Aug 29, 2008 10:35 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
It's difficult; he's constantly moving
All of these were from yesterday/last night, except the one of the inside of Moylan’s arm. That was on 8/12, when they only got batting practice in before the downpour started.
I was with friends, so I didn’t move around as much as I do when I’m alone (i.e., none of the bullpen like usual!). But we were in the outfield for BP, and then in 205 (near home) for the game. I use a zoom, too.

Hope royhobbs, gondee and Beard got together and commiserated.
We’ll probably be able to smell the Listerine and beer vomit all the way back in Atlanta.
