Braves @ Cards Open Thread: Game 1
Atlanta Braves @ St. Louis Cardinals
Wall of Busch beer via www.buschmountains.com
Every time we go to Busch Stadium I get that damn song in my head... "head for the mountains, head for Busch beer"... if it's now stuck in your head then you're welcome.

no stupid songs stuck in my head
But I’m ready for the game tonight!
For some reason I feel Frenchy will have a good night tonight. No, I haven’t been smoking anything.

I turn on the game and see the pitcher batting in the 2nd with one on and nobody out, yet the score is 0-0.
It took me a little while to figure out how that could happen. Then I remembered LaRussa was managing.

McCann guns out the pitcher!
Whenever the hit and run succeeds, people talk about it like it’s the greatest idea ever. But whenever it fails, there’s no big deal about wasting outs.

I emailed joeandboog@gmail.com the Boog and Butthead image. I think they were laughing about it when they were referring to sarcastic emails.

Hmm
How does one get 16 points in football?
8 safeties
2 TD/XP + 1 safeties
1 TD + 1 FG + 3 safeties
Because the Arizona Cardinals are beating the tar out of us right now.

ST. LOUIS — After watching him complete a bullpen session on Friday, the Braves opted to take a gamble on Rodrigo Lopez and his surgically repaired right elbow.
The Braves signed Lopez to a Minor League contract with an option for the 2009 season. The former 15-game winner will be invited to Spring Training next year and potentially be given a chance to win a starting rotation spot.
After winning 15 games for the second time in four seasons in 2005, Lopez returned to the Orioles the following year and was saddled with a career-high 18 losses. The 32-year-old right-hander signed with the Rockies last year, and he experienced a season similar to the one Tom Glavine endured this year.
Lopez began feeling elbow discomfort in April of last year and was diagnosed with a torn flexor tendon four months later. He chose to rest the ailment. But when he experienced more problems in February, he was forced to undergo the same surgical procedure Glavine experienced earlier this week.
The Braves assigned Lopez to their Gulf Coast League team and will continue to monitor his progress over the next few weeks and months. He is 61-60 with a 4.92 ERA in 161 career starts..
rock. bottom.

Why dont we
We are weak at second, not only is he weak on defense, he just is not a mlb player, slow pitch softball yes. Send JF down to A Ball, his confidence is gone. Bring up some of our young pitchers, I am tired of watching this junk.

I was at the game. It was pretty painful to watch. To be honest, most of the balls weren’t hit incredibly hard, but that’s not the point…I actually lost count of all the hits. When DeSalvo was at the mound I kept looking to the braves bullpen to see who was warming up, and was amazed to not see anyone.
