Do we have a ROY on our hands?
According to BP:
Over in the National League, there's a pretty fantastic race between 40 percent of the Braves' rotation and Geovany Soto. Soto has accumulated twice as much value over replacement (32.7) as the next-best NL rookie position player, Ian Stewart (15.9). Both Jair Jurrjens (32.5) and Jorge Campillo (29.2) are having comparable seasons to Soto, and could easily surpass him in value over the next five-and-a-half weeks, but because neither rookie righty has a big win total nor a very low ERA, and because both are toiling for a sub-.500 team, they don't have much chance to win the award.
It's Soto's to lose in the voters' eyes, and he is very unlikely to do so. He's been about the best player on the best team in the league, and if that doesn't quite rise to MVP status this year, it's more than good enough to make him Rookie of the Year.
With the year that Soto is having it really speaks well of JJ to see him that close in VORP. Too bad the chances of him or Campillo winning are almost non-existent.

It sucks...
…that Jair won’t win the award almost entirely because Soto plays for Chicago and Jurrjens plays for Atlanta. Wins/Losses are a bullshit statistic anyways.
I don't think...
he’s ever been a serious contender due to the “team” he’s on. He is getting some valuable experience that may lead to better things in the future though. If he stays healthy (he’s thrown a lot of innings this year for a rookie), there could be a Cy Young or two in his future. He’s one of the best looking arms I have seen in the Braves in a long time and actually seems to have some idea of how to pitch! How does Detroit evaluate their young pitchers?????
what they do is Identify their good pitchers and then trade them away to rely on Nate Robertson and Dontrelle WIllis, we should feel blessed that our front office generally does a good job evaluating our young guys and gettign quality in return (Marte, remember him)
"We win today, that's two in a row... if we win tomorrow, that's called a winning streak. It has happened before..."
Yes, the Braves FO...
seems to take a beating when dealing with the Rangers and the A’s, but seem to know how to handle the Tigers. I was never a Marte fan, but he didn’t have a chance here behind Chipper. Does anyone think there’s a possibility Chipper will be moved during the off season and if so, where?
Where...
…does Fukudome sit on BP’s ROY radar? Just want to know, for when he wins it, causing yet another cultural (crap) storm, and more fuel to Joe Simpson’s ire.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.
What’s quoted above is all they included. More of the focus on the article was about the AL ROY.
A corner outfield slugging .385 should NOT win any hardware.
I guess I should be one to talk.

There's days I couldn't give a fuck.
And in between is where I'm stuck.

I love it...
a sport that is all about numbers, where failure 70% of the time is considered great. Right up there with being a weather man! All of these “awards” are becoming less and less valuable — except in the contract bonuses!
Soto will win this because he a Cub and writers have a crush on the Cubs. You all saw who they had in the All-Star game it was a joke. Fukadome, Marmol and Wood shouldn’t have been there
No
an even more ill-informed and reactionary group is responsible for that debacle.
Not a terrible thing if it where meaningless, but not any more. Dear Pujols, I hate what the All-Star Game has become.
All Star games and end of season awards are all crapfests in my eyes
I mean look at who won the freaking MVP last year.
the problem for Jurrjens is that he is on a losing team that ESPN doesn’t talk about or air many of there games. Soto and the Cubs are on TV all the time and get talked about a lot.
i wonder if the braves were still on tbs, jair would get some recongnition...
the braves play here hallalejah
ROY
Soto has actually gotten better as the year progressed. A month ago, I would have said JJJ was more valuable, but Soto is having a monster year for a rookie, playing a key position for a good team. He deserves it. He’s not only killing the ball, he’s a good defensive catcher. Not great, but good. Jair should finish second.
And Longoria has it wrapped in the AL., despite the injuries and being brought up late. There are a lot of good rookies in the AL, but none with even close to the impact Longoria has had on his team, IMO. That kid is going to be a perennial all-star.

Alot of people are saying that he has played so well that he should be included in the discussion for a Gold Glove. Not that their voting is any more accurate…

after his last start, theres NO FREAKING WAY he’s winning this.
Following the Braves...one long hard drink at a time.
Too many innings...
for such a young guy. We should never have had to rely on him this much — except for the remainder of the broken down pitchers we have. Sports (especially BB) is all about staying healthy and that failure has put way to much stress on him this year, but I believe he will be much better for it in the long run (fingers crossed).
