Around SBN: Jeremy Lin's Game-Winner Was Incredible, Worth Remembering

Minor League Recaps: 8/17

Toledo 6, Richmond 5

  • J. Anderson 1-4 3B, RBI,
  • B. Jones 2-4 2B, HR(6), K
  • J. Perry 3-4 2B, HR(8), K

Josh Anderson's streak is now up to 22 games and is the longest in the IL this season. He will most definitely get the September call up as an audition for next season. Brandon Jones may have regained a little of his power stroke this month as he has half of his season's 6 homers in August. He'd be good in LF for us next year if he can reproduce his numbers from last season.

Mississippi - Off

Reports are saying that everyone is tired of playing against Tommy Hanson and they decided to end the season early.

Potomac 3, Myrtle Beach 0

  • G. Hernandez 2-4

This was a rare shut out of the offensive powerhouse that is the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. In fact it is only their 4th of the season (2 in the past 5 games though).

Lake County 5, Rome 1

  • J. Heyward 1-3 2B
  • F. Freeman 1-4 K
  • A. Coe 3-4 2B, K

I don't have much to say about this game.

Danville - OFF

GCL Braves -OFF

Craziness...

I like the sound of two free agent starters added to the mix of Campillo, Jurrjens and Morton/Reyes, with Redmond, Medlan and Hanson (plus the loser of the Morton/Reyes ST battle) waiting for their shots down in AAA to start 2009. We can argue all year about who those two new pitchers should be (I’ll make a pitch for Dempster and Lowe, should both be available this offseason) but I think we can all agree that rotation would be a strong start!

Yeah. I mean the guys we put out there right now wouldn’t be horrible, and adding two solid Free Agent starters would be great. I’d love to get CC, but I am in the mindset that no one on your team should ever make more than 20% of the payroll and that is what it would take to sign him.

Don't forget about

Matt Harrison and Neftali Feliz. Oh, wait.

by TradeAndruw on Aug 18, 2008 10:29 AM EDT reply actions

Once again...

…Feliz didn’t start pitching like a superstar until after he had already left our organization.

And Harrison’s numbers aren’t anything to write home about this year. He gave up 9.59 H/9 and 2.93 BB/9 with only 6.85 K/9 in AA this year, and then 9.47 H/9 and 3.32 BB/9 with only 4.74 K/9 at AAA. That’s way too many baserunners per 9 innings, without enough strikeouts to compensate.

I guess I should be one to talk.
There's nights that I can't even walk.
There's days I couldn't give a fuck.
And in between is where I'm stuck.

…and that doesn’t even include his pathetic MLB numbers this season.

Fail.

Matt Harrison has been garbage. Please try again… actually, I take that back.

Please fellate Royce Ring

And stop with the “fail” thing. Are you 12 years old?

like that pathetic shutout he just threw

didn’t realize his numbers wetre that bad though. you win.

by TradeAndruw on Aug 18, 2008 11:57 AM EDT reply actions

Sure, he just pitched a gem...

…but he also has the following line on his resume from July 13th:

2.2 IP, 7 H, 5 ER, 2 BB, 0 K

He has 3 quality starts out of his 8 starts. He’s also allowed 68 baserunners in 43.2 IP for the Rangers. I’m not the least bit impressed.

Yeah..

….A few nights ago I watched Harrison pitch against the Mariners – and he was unimpressive to say the least. Hell, even Salty didn’t look good…not sure what happened to him – though I’ll always keep an eye on his career track.

If you're going to troll

At least wait for the guy to get more strikeouts than walks

Well...

With Kotsay probably about to get moved since he cleared waivers, I’m assuming that we’ll be seeing BJones up pretty soon.

clearing waivers doesn’t mean someone will be traded. if anything, it means they WON’T be traded since no one wanted them

Just because..

…he cleared waivers doesn’t mean jack. A lot of guys have cleared waivers and haven’t been claimed. We’ll see Brandon Jones soon enough when the rosters expand on Sept. 1st.

by RainDelay on Aug 18, 2008 2:23 PM EDT up reply actions

Oh....

I know that it doesn’t neccessarily mean anything. But there’s a few teams out there that may be interested. Esp. teams like the Rays who just lost Carl Crawford. The sooner we could move Kots though, the more ABs we could give someone who actually is in the plans for the future.

by bravesfan91 on Aug 18, 2008 2:26 PM EDT up reply actions

Well...

…Jones isn’t a Centerfielder, Blanco has played there. Schafer ain’t going to be seen this year or next (well maybe towards the end of 09 – but he’s clearly not ready yet). I really wouldn’t be surprised if Kotsay is resigned over the winter.

schafer watch: .269

dun dun dunnnnn

It wouldn’t surprise me either, but we have Blanco, Anderson, and Lillibridge who are all capable of playing CF. Personally I’d love to see Kots back in CF but we’ve got three young guys that could take his place if we let him walk. Either way though, I think we can agree that we’re not going to be competitive next year.
