Chipper is a Baby

Does Chipper want to win the batting title or not!??!? Why is he sitting out tonight cause of a stomachache? He needs 502 PA to qualify; he has 398 as of today. More than likely, he will qualify. But dude needs to be careful and save up for those muscle pulls that he will probably have a few of by season's end. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Chipper. But shit like this gets on my nerves. I played my entire senior softball season hurt (which i know is like 1/8 of the games in a MLB season) but my team needed me so i played. Now, obviously it is too late for Chipper's team to need him, but does he really want this batting title or not? I feel like the lack of fire of the team is part of Chipper's fault. Smoltz was right in calling Chipper out about not playing last year, because he plays through injuries like none other.

Am i being a bitch? Tell me what y'all think.

if he was puking his guts out, how do you expect him to play baseball? i’ll bust it out this time.

hey dumbass

notice i said “is only like 1/8 of an MLB season”. i was trying to make the point that i played hurt the whole time cause my team sucked and they needed me, not that i went through the rigors of a 162 game season. and he def played the first game today….so he just started puking his guts and feeling deathly ill two hours later? yeah yeah….sorry he’s a baby and that’s all there is to it.

Chipper IS a baby...

I’ll give you that, if you admit to being a damaged “human” being, OK? Yet another ID I can now ignore immediately!

"Am i being a bitch? Tell me what y'all think."

OK then: you’re being a bitch. You played through a softball season hurt and that gives you the right to talk shit about Chipper Jones? Your post claims that he’s not playing through stuff that he could and/or should be playing through and I disagree with that. Not only do I think he plays when he can (he quite obviously played hurt while the team was trying to stay in contention) but I don’t even think he should try to play if he’s the least bit hurt this season. Fight for a batting title? Who the hell cares?! This season is lost and everyone, from management on down through the fanbase, needs to shift their focus to next year. You’re wrong about Chipper and couldn’t be more off-base with your accusations. Did I make myself clear?

"fight for a batting title? Who the hell cares?!"

Chipper should care!!! You’re right, the season is lost, so we need one thing to be proud of this season. And i shouldn’t have even mentioned softball, because it is being taken completely out of context.

He played the first game yesterday….why not the second? Did a virus just spring up? Did he play through it in the first game? Why could he not have played through it in the second game?

No one is explaining why he sat out 2 games in that early September series last year against the Mets!!! He strained his oblique!!! Big fuckin deal!!! He didn’t pull it or tear it!!! We ended up FIVE GAMES BACK. Please explain to me how he couldn’t find it in himself to play those 2 HUGE games against a team that he dominates. Damn he must have really strained that oblique.

I’m not saying the season is lost cause of him, or that he should be playing for the team. I just don’t understand how you could not do your best to get in there and make sure you get your PA’s in so you can have a great achievement for the year and make the fans and your team proud. I’m worried he’s gonna pull something else, go on the DL, and that will be the end of the batting title. Which i don’t understand how you could say who the hell would care about that. We would all be pumped for him if he did that and you know it.

And i love Chipper probably more than you. If i’m talking shit, then so was Smoltzie last year when he made the vague comment towards Chipper sitting some games in the paper.

And the whole softball thing was just me tryin to say that i know it’s hard to play hurt. i didn’t mean to make it sound like i was comparing that to a major league season.

you’re coming off as a real whiny bitch right now. i’d like to see you do anything aside from lay around with an ice pack on if you strained your oblique.

Mike Lowell just got put on the 15 day DL with a strained oblique

Chipper just took 2 days off. Man that Lowell guy is a pussy.

i actually have strained my oblique…it’s not something anyone should sit out 2 huge games for.

What is the big deal with him missing a game right now with us havin no chance at the playoffs? And who cares about the batting title. He is gonna go to the hall of fame WITH or WITHOUT a batting title. I seriously doubt that he will lose sleep thinkin well dang I wish I had me a batting title. Well he would have EVERYTHING else and he will be among the greats in the Hall of Fame. I think that sums up his career WAY more than winning a batting title. You are acting like such a douche.

"Did a virus just spring up?"

Uh…yeah. That’s kinda how it works. Why is it so hard to imagine that he began feeling ill between games? If it just “sprang up” in the middle of the night would that be any more “normal”? A couple weeks ago I had a bout with the stomach bug/shits. “Sprang up” one evening where two hours before I felt fine.

Has this not happened to you before?

by WienerDog on Aug 15, 2008 8:14 AM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

dude

the season is lost for us and if he is not able to play then he is not able to play. I know GOOD and well that he has played ALOT of games hurt this season when we WERE still in the race. So get off your high horse and just shut up. He would NOT be doin this if we were still in the race he would play through it just like he always has. You are a complete idiot.

i’m not a complete idiot. u obviously didn’t read my post. this is about his PA’s… i said it’s too late for his team to need him so that’s not the point i was tryin to make. oh and last season we DID need him and i remember him not playin two games in september VERSUS the mets in september with a strained oblique. we ended up five games back!!!! he should have toughed that shit out for the team!!! he kills the mets

I dont think you realize that some of these injuries are very very very painful to play through especially playin in all the games they play in all season long. Its a brutal season, its not easy doin what they are doin.

But he had like a tear in his hamstring or somethin like that back in June and EVERYBODY thought he would have to go to the DL but he didn’t and he toughed it out for the TEAM while we were still actually in the race.

by rockybull on Aug 14, 2008 12:05 AM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

yeah i do remember that back in June and that was awesome for sure. But what about last september like i just talked about in my earlier reply? more often then not, he’ll sit if he feels a twinge of any sort. and he really does whine…remember the comments he made about the strike zone?

and i do realize that it’s hard going through a season with pulled muscles. there is nothing u can do to fully heal it but rest. i’m just really afraid he is gonna screw up the batting title. i love chipper, i really always have. i just lose faith in him sometimes. Smoltz was 40 last year and pitched half the season with his shoulder about to explode in a million pieces and he kept on going.

I think the pertinent thing here...

…is that the batting title is an individual accomplishment. Whether he is being a baby or not, he is not hurting the team, only himself, is he doesn’t qualify.

“Stomach virus” is code for diarrhea. You try running around in white pants in front of 40,000 people with a leaky O-ring, having to concentrate to the point where you forget to hold a certain something in, and then before you know it, you’re on YouTube like Peepants Fergie, except that ain’t pee staining your uniform. Playing hurt isn’t the issue, shitting your pants in front of millions of people is.

I’m sorry, I just re-read this again and the line “playing hurt isn’t the issue, shitting your pants in front of millions of people is” is without a doubt the greatest sentence ever put to words. Bravo, again.

Is it really that hard for people to figure out how debilitating a stomach virus is? I had one before and was alternating between the toilet and bed every hour for a day.

Comparing playing hurt in your Senior year of Softball to playing professional baseball = epic fail.

You can still win a batting title without 502 PAs

The PAs that you’re short just count as outs. See Tony Gwynn 1996.

Ok, I’m not the biggest Chipper fan, but when you’re sick, you’re sick – take at least a half day off. And yeah, you WILL get all kinds of shit (no pun intended) all of a sudden when you have young children.

Okay...

…I just thought about the song my son and his friends used to love to sing. It was one of the many variations of “The Diarrhea Song”, in this case with a baseball theme…

When you’re running down to first, and your gut’s about to burst.. DIARRHEA, DIARRHEA..
and so on….

It was in the Steve Martin movie, Parenthood.

I’ve heard a whole Little League team sing it more times than I care to think about.

Maybe Frenchy and Heap were singing to Chipper when this photo was made. :-)

You held firm and took the mob abuse rather well! Look, I’m not opposed to differing viewpoints and I don’t think that most here are either, so feel free to chime in with whatever comes across your mind. That said, make the claim like “Chipper is a baby” and you better have a perfect arguement in support or you’re gonna get more of this.
