Tim Hudson talk

On another non-baseball board I post on, some guys have mentioned they've heard talks about Hudson going to the Cubs, and (probably a rib) Milwaukee. Has anyone heard a WORD about this? MLBTR and all the rest of the crew haven't mentioned a word about Hudson. I think trading HUD would be the absolute stupidest fucking thing the Braves could do, and would likely cause me to throw eggs at Frank Wren's private box when I go to ATL next month.

Trading Hudson would totally kill our rotation for the present and the future, no way I see this happening ever ! Wren does this he should be fired on the spot.

To the Cubs? Doubtful they’d have the pieces to pay for over 2 and a half years of a #1 starter at below market salary. I’d expect a payoff of at least Haren levels with an impact starter as the centerpiece for that, and no one trades impact starters anymore.

Nope.

Definitely not the Tigers (Miller and Jurrjens), Twins (Garza) or Rangers (Danks and Volquez). I’m sure there are more, but those are five off the top of my head.

By the way, Haren at the time of his trade was more valuable than Huddy is right now and I’m not even kidding. Getting what the A’s got for Haren would be about as unlikely as getting better than half of what we paid for Tex if we were to trade him away today.

I’m talking Kershaw, Price, McGee, Hughes, etc. types. Not merely good major league starters. No one projected any of those five to be that type of prospect when they were traded.

thats not true Miller was a top shelf prospect, Garza had already shown he had a great arm, but the Twins had a disagreement with Garza over how he should handle himself and thats the reason he was let go. they knew he was a top shelf pitcher, easily a nbr 2 guy. and i still say he is the pitcher on the Rays with the most upside, even more than Kazmir ( and his ridiculous HS numbers)

Miller was a top shelf prospect, about 12 months before he was traded. Then he sported a 5.48 BB/9 and got hurt. No doubt he was good, but his winter 06-07 reign as basically the third best pitching prospect in baseball was over.

And sure, Garza was a #2 starter ceiling. But that’s exactly what I’m saying; guys with ace level ceilings (think Kershaw, Price, etc.) don’t get traded anymore. Major league ready guys with question marks (Miller, Garza, Jurrjens) and possible #2-3s in High A or AA (Brett Anderson, Tillman, etc.) do.

And factor in that Kazmir and Garza are the same age. Compare their career arcs.

I don't buy it.

Hudson is going nowhere. This is just a bunch of horseshit rumor mongering.

I agree with bigjoe, with Holty, with 17843. If this happened it would cause me to totally lose faith in the organization.

Most likely, it’s a straight fabrication – nothing more.

But if it happens, Pujols forbid, I’ll buy bigjoe some eggs. Rotten ones.

Agreed, no chance.

I think everyone was just excited about the Sabathia trade and the Cubs fans were throwing around names randomly who the Cubs could go for to counter act that move. Not even a whisper about Hudson moving.

Here's a what if...

What if the Braves did the much speculated trading of Tex….then do you (we) think they’d trade Husdon? I personally have no idea…..my opinion is it’d be stupid to trade Hudson under most circumstaces, but if we throw in the towel and get rid of Tex…...?

I’ll give my own cents here and say that would leave us with zero true vets next season (assuming Glavine and Smoltz are gone, which I guess isn’t in stone yet). What would we have? Jurrjens, Reyes, Morton, Campillo, Chuck James?? No way. Now, keep it at Hudson, Jurrjens, Reyes, Morton, Campillo (or whoever), and that ain’t so bad.

he’s under control for next year with an option for ‘10. tex…isn’t.

Sounds like the people who were discussing this maybe got Hudson and Haren mixed up.

What's The Return.

No one is untouchable. Would you trade Huddy for David Price right now? Everyone has a price, unless their marketing value is that much greater than their trade value.

no i wouldnt, Price is a prospect whihc means theres a chance he wont pan out, (even though he seems like a cant miss guy). Hudson is a proven ace (maybe not a top tier ace, but nonetheless) in his prime (ish)... i wouldnt do this trade ever… maybe Jurrjens for Price, but then the Rays would never do it.

Pretty good deal. Price for six years with a pretty good probability of him being a #1/2 is at least equal value to an in decline Hudson for 2.5 years. A B level prospect would ice it.

And Hudson is decidedly not in his prime at 32, unless we’re bastardizing the word prime to mean ‘period of effectiveness’. The expectation that a 28 year old pitcher who’s on the 9 month run he’s on can continue doing what he’s doing is actually reasonable. Change that to a 32 year old and I really doubt it.

Jurrjens for Price is a no-brainer. Who wouldn’t trade 5.5 years of a #2-3 starter for 6 of a #1-2?
