Battle of the Wounded
From my quick check of recent news on the Dodgers...
Furcal - DL (love him...but happy to miss him this time around)
Andruw - returned (bad for Dodgers at the plate, bad for us at the plate)
Jeff Kent - 15-DL (calling Willie Aybar)
Brett Tomko - rehab assignment
Does anyone one know of any other significant Dogder-related roster news?
Since I have to have 75 words...sigh...I am hoping yesterdays marathon game A) didn't suck the life out of Chipper and McCann; B) Escobar's shoulder handles the long flight; C) the victory sparked our Braves for a mini-run going into the break.

They'll be fine
Marathon games are so draining, emotionally and physically, that our boys will be playing on nothing but sheer instinct and adrenaline tonight. Those are usually when the best stuff occurs. I love west coast late-night games on the east-coast… seriously.

absolutely agree
i think even FYF would have a good game today. They’re just trying to keep the momentum and do what they’re supposed to do – not too much, but just enough.

It helps that we won the game, too. I would be worried a bit if we lost, but last night was one of those games that can turn around a season. We’ll see how we can spin it until the AS break.

Chipper's OBP must've gone up last night
Why doesn’t he lead off?

Good question...
...having a leadoff hitter with a .485 OBP would certainly be nice…but i’ll take a hitter in the 3rd spot with a .640 SLG, thank you very much.
3-5 with 4 BBs? Crazy.

Speed
Conventional thinking would dictate that your leadoff hitter would be a little speedier than Chipper, being that he’s 36 and has fought leg injuries this year. But, it’s not like we’re stealing a lot of bases or anything like that…
So far, I’m liking Blanco leading off. If he and Yuni can get on, let Chipper and Tex pound them in…theoretically, of course.

Speed . . . pshh, Chipper hits triples now if you didn’t notice.

also the Red Sox succeeded with kevin Youkilis as their leadoff hitter two years ago.

Define "succeed"
Youk was moved to the leadoff spot out of lack of a better player, since Coco Crisp and was oft-injured as well as he couldn’t handle it, and Youk just barely did better. Also, the Red Sox finished the season in third place in 2006, losing the second place spot to the Blue Jays on the final day of the season. Doesn’t sound like much success to me then, but Youk did gel-in well and become an indispensable member of that squad, now.

theres failures had little to do with Youkilis batting first, in my estmition the offense still produced, if you remmeber they didnt have much pitching, esp bullpen

You knew I would have to chime in on this one...
...and here I am!
Kevin Youkilis as the leadoff hitter, 2006 (467 PAs):
.286/.385/.430 = .815 OPS, 73 R, 37 XBH, 47 RBI, 82/63 K/BB, BB in 13% of his PAs, and 3 SBs as well!
I’d take that any day of the week.

Interesting little tool. FYF batting 3rd? Heap batting 8th? Blah…
It’s funny…if you check the other “model” and scroll to the bottom every single one of the “worst lineups” has Francoeur batting leadoff.

well yeah, but that kinda goes without saying. the lineup analysis is a very irrational tool, because no manager in their right mind would do it with their everyday lineup because of all the conventional trends it bucks

Of course…still funny to see it.

I'm sorry...
...but I had to chuckle a little bit when I was watching Baseball Tonight and they were going over the highlights of the Dodgers game. At the very end they were like “by the way, Andruw Jones was 0-5 with 4 K’s in his return from the DL”.

Hmm
Jones vs. Jurrjens II, in all likelihood.
Andruw is 0-3 with 3K against Jair.
Will Andruw completely 0-fer 6-7K for the season against Curacao’s new favorite child?
