Brian Lawrence & Jason Phillips ???
I read on this site a few weeks ago that we had signed both Lawrence and Phillips from the Indepedent leagues but I have heard, seen or read nothing on them since. Does any one know about these guys, how they are doing, (hitting/pitching) ???
I remember Lawrence from his days with the Padres and he alway seemed to have quality stuff. Good fastball decent breaking ball but somehow always managed to get into tight spots and stay in their and get the W.
Phillips was a jack of all trades at one time for the Mets but I still cannot believe that he ended up in the Independent leagues ??? It was my understanding that he finished his career with the Jays and then just fell out of graces with most Major League clubs. I mean the guy can catch, play first base, and maybe even a little corner outfield in a pinch.
I know they are both at Triple AAA Richmond but that is it..
So any reports on either of these two would be great thanks fellas and ladies.

Saw them both this week
Yeah, Lawrence was pretty bad in his first two starts, but he pitched very well this week in Norfolk. He got tired in the 6th, but before that he looked like he did with the Padres. Never a guy with much stuff, he just gets guys out.
Phillips has only played in a couple games, so it’s hard to judge him yet. I was talking to Phillips and he played with the Blue Jays last season and their AAA team Syracuse, then got released, ended the season with Florida’s AAA Albequerque (sp?), then was in spring training this year with a different major league team (can’t remember which one, maybe Kansas City) and got cut at the end of spring trianing when it’s hard to find another job, so he ended up with the indy league team (which isn’t the death sentence it used to be). So he’s been some places. He can catch, but he can’t really throw anybody out, he can definitely play first well enough and I could only see him in left field in a dire circumstance. But if he plays well he could make a nice bench player in the bigs.

i’m more intrigued about JORGE JULIO, who for a stretch last week, had his WHIP equal to his ERA. CRAZY

We'll agree here
I want to see Jorge Julio on the big club. Maybe Bobby would use him instead of trotting out the same three guys everyday.

I sure as hell don't
I lump Jorge Julio with Armando Benitez, Antonio Alfonseca, and other journeymen hard-throwing Dominican/Venezuelan pitchers who are journeymen for a reason, which is their penchant for imploding in key situations.
But hey, if it’s any reason to take some mileage off of Boyer, Acosta, and Ohman, go for it. He can be next in line to give up two runs in the top of the ninth to take our reasonable deficit away next.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.
