Stros @ Braves: Game 2 Open Thread
Houston Astros at Atlanta Braves, Jul 5, 2008 7:10 PM EDT
What a game last night... and those fireworks after the game... nothing like the fireworks during the game... I really have no idea what happened.
Here's a picture of a real All-American guy:

He had a nice game last night, hopefully sign of good things to come. 2-4. R,BB
Turner
Can we talk him into buying the Braves back?
You know it was about the Fourth when Frenchy came up in 2005 and it’s ironic he goes down the same week. In 2005 we had an unlikely come back with the “Baby’s”.
Maybe this is a sign of things to come? Anyone feeling a little optimistic w/ Frenchy’s send down?

I do.
Because it also means we are getting some depth back.

Depth and..
The knowledge that JF”K” is working on his swing and I think he’ll do nothing but benefit from his time in Mississippi. I know he’s not a happy camper but it’s a career saving move.

I am optimistic in general.
It also sounds like Frenchy has calmed down a bit:

Actually can't wait for a
healthy and mentally refreshed team to take the field after the ASB. Bobby and crew can get back to watching BP and pre-game as a competive scenario again. Rather that the trauma triage ward it has been this first half. Get some swagger back.
Uncle Ted's
Not as tall as he looks on television. I went to a Ted’s Montana Grill for lunch and saw him as I was coming in, and it took me a moment to realize that it was him, because he was no taller than I was.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.

How is that place? I’ve always wanted to visit but I like having some idea of what I’m getting into.
Food’s great, and it’s a very casual place.

Good food, reasonable prices. Bison substitute over Beef if preferred, costs more, leaner meat though. Very casual, relaxed atmosphere.

We just helped Sampson out...
Quick inning. Looks like they would take more pitches knowing that he is only going to pitch 3 or 4 innings anyway.
Another quick inning.....
at this rate Sampson will be able to go more innings that the Astros planned.

...I just really don’t like guys who think they can’t play if they have a little bit of “discomfort”. Of course, maybe I have been spoiled by the one who defines the phrase “playing through pain”.

The Braves saw 6 pitches that inning...
to a guy they knew could only last 3 or 4 innings. At this rate he will be able to go 6, and they will not have to dig too deep into their bullpen, like they originally planned.
He has only thrown 42 pitched after 4 innings….
we is awesome

At least not in this area. I had to retire my last hat (the one in my user pic), because it doesn’t really hold the shape of hat anymore. To some, that’s blasphemous, but I got tired of losing it because it was smashed down somewhere, in a car, gym bag, or somewhere innocuous. After sitting in the rain in Boston, it got crushed in my luggage back home, and it never returned to a normal shape. It’s not so much navy blue as it was a old Datsun-faded purpleish color. It also kinda smelled funny too after all the travel, barhopping, partying…
But nothing’s more respectable to see than a beat to hell baseball cap on someone. I still break the old one out when playing softball or running. Like hell I’d ever throw it away.

He has had 4 days rest. This is the role that he would have had all year if it were not for the injuries. He is perfect for the 5th, 6th, or 7th innings. The main setup / closer role gets him, he is not ready for that pressue.

WAY off topic: Mississippi Lineup
Check this out – it’s tonight’s MBraves lineup. And you know, that could very well be the Atlanta lineup in a year or two. I don’t honestly think it will be, but you know – the possibility is there! Throw in McCann at catcher, Escobar at short, and there it could be. Just thought it was interesting….
Holt 2B
Diaz LF
Francoeur RF
Kaaihue 1B
Schafer CF
Pope 3B
Hanson P
Also, tonight for Rome Cody Johnson has hit #15. He’s well over .400 in his last 11 games and hasn’t gone hitless in those games. It may go back farther than that, but I don’t know how to check. Dude’s on a mission.
And, last tidbit, Mike Hampton pitched 5 innings, 5 hits, no runs, no walks, and 6 strikeouts in Myrtle Beach.
I go to milb.com
http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/index.jsp
You can click on the level, find the team, and see live box scores. They’re updated every several minutes or so. The Rome games are always streamed on the internet, and there’s a link to it at romebraves.com

Ah, a fellow celebrity!
Several years ago some friends took my wife and I to Wrigley Field in Chicago, and we sat on the front row in the outfield with the Bleacher Bums. I recorded the game, and in a slow motion replay of Ryne Sandberg turning a double play you can see me and my posse. It’s a blur, but it’s us.
I’ve been wating for the autograph requests to come in, but it’s been…..slow. Don’t expect too much!
Are you serious?
Although I’ve never caught myself on television.. at a game, I too record the games I attend, especially the Braves away-games. I thought I would’ve had a good chance in Boston, since I thought I’d be the only Braves fan in Fenway Park decking out the gear, but no dice.
I recorded a game last season, in September, when the Braves were up in RFK against the Nationals – it rained that game, and it went to extra innings. By then, 3/5 of the attendance bolted, but I refused to go. So, in the quite half-innings when the Braves were at-bat, I participated/started several Tomahawk chants with remaining Braves fans, and whenever McCann or Francoeur were at bat, or in the on-deck circle, I was screaming at the top of my lungs words like “HEAP,” “PARKVIEW HIGH SCHOOL PANTHERS“
And was all gratified and happy when I watched the game back home, and could hear myself sounding like a fool in a rainy, miserable night game that the Braves won in 13 innings.
