Just so everyone knows
For everyone who thinks the Braves should've kept Tex and tried to resign him:
We offered him 5 years $100 mil last off-season, and it was rejected. There is no way in hell we would've paid him more, in fact I'm surprised we offered him $20 million a year, considering our highest paid player this year is making around $15 million.
So no one is allowed to bitch about Liberty Media not allowing us to spend money on the team. Thank you.
In the words of Will Ferrell from Step Brothers: "What a doucher."

I was not aware of the offer
They made him in spring training, until Wren said so last night during the broadcast. Changes my perspective a little on the situation.
"Have you ever had your heart broken?"
"Yeah, when we lost the pennant in '87."

I really don't blame him for turning down 5/100
If he turns down 8/140 from the Rangers before he was traded. I imagine it would take 5/115 or so for him to consider. 5 years is reasonable because he can still collect that 34 yr old contract.
And besides, he can definitely get more than 5/100 on the open market.

I’m glad to see us trying. Maybe we will get some big names this offseason.

That does make me feel a lot better.
I bitched all night that we probably only offered him 10 a year or something and he laughed.
Really feel a lot better. Thanks.

Link?
Not that I’m doubting you or anything, but judging by the differing opinions on this subject, some verifiable proof would be nice…

“Teixeira is making $12.5 million and will be eligible for free agency after the season. Atlanta general manager Frank Wren said the team was rebuffed in spring training when it offered Teixeira a deal that would have made him “one of the highest-paid players in the game.”
There were no further contract discussions between Wren and Teixeira’s agent, Scott Boras. With Atlanta plagued by injuries and fading in the NL East, Wren thought he had little choice but to get something of value before losing the 28-year-old Teixeira.
“We offered him a very aggressive, multiyear contract,” Wren said. “When he didn’t take that, we knew we wouldn’t be able to re-sign him.”
Teixeira said the negotiations with the Braves were nothing more than “one phone call.”

No numbers, but proof that we offered to make him one of the highest paid players and he refused. Pretty sure I’m going to boo him if I ever see him again.

That's a lot of money
But I’m still sad he’s gone. Fact of the matter is I don’t know what teams need a 1B who could give him a better offer than that. The D’backs don’t have that kind of money, and the Angels don’t want to spend it on him from what I understand. The Yanks have Giambi (for now, but he’ll be a FA I think after this year), the Red Sox have Youkilis. The Cubs have Lee, and the Mets have a resurgent Delgado. I don’t know he’ll get many offers to match what the Braves offered. Besides, Boras really hurt himself with A-Rod, and for all we know, Tex might end up wishing he had taken the Braves offer at some point.

If that’s the case, would the Braves extend another offer to him during the offseason?
I guess I should be one to talk.

HELL NO
He obviously doesn’t want to be a Brave, because we offered him 20 million a year. So I say NO MORE OFFERS. Screw you Tex.

He may just want to test the market before signing, not simply not wanting to stay with the Braves. He is a Boras client after all.

I'm curious
Has there been any recent instances of a team with a marquee free-agent-to-be player ever traded said player away, and then gotten them back when they declare free agency? Nothing comes to immediate memory to me.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.

He’s not marquee, in fact he’s been released since, but the Orioles traded Steve Trachsel to the Cubs last season for Rocky Cherry and Scott Moore, then resigned Trachsel in the offseason. All three were with the team in spring training.
