Phillies @ Braves: Game 3 Open Thread
Philadelphia Phillies at Atlanta Braves, Jul 3, 2008 7:10 PM EDT
There is a very real possibility that we could get swept for the second straight time at home by the Philadelphia Phillies. What a sad, sad sight it would be. We came into the series with the possibility of being only a game behind Philly at the end of it, if we had swept them, but we will instead be at least five games behind and we could possibly end up seven games out.
I've tried to avoid putting both feet on the giving-up-on-the-season bandwagon, but pretty soon inevitability will take the place of hope, and we all might have to admit that somewhere along the way this team short circuited where winning was concerned. It's really hard to watch player after player under perform night after night.

Does Bobby
have a grill or just need to see a dentist?
"Have you ever had your heart broken?"
"Yeah, when we lost the pennant in '87."
A bad photo
Or likely, all those post-game cigars are catching up to him.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.
A good idea to loosen up the team a little?
Bobby shows up in the clubhouse wearing a grill…that would be sure to get some laughs.
The guy is insatiable. He’s married to a Playboy playmate, and he’s ogling the Tomahawk Team.
He wouldn’t be the first though. Practically every Oakland A was doing the same thing in May. I could practically see Mark Kotsay in the other dugout shaking his head in a “I told you so” manner.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.
Lucky bastard, makes me hate him even more
The phils are rapidly replacing the mets as my most despised team. Have you heard Brett Myers tirade to that philadelphia reporter?
Did he punch the reporter in the face and drag them around the street by the reporter’s hair? Oh wait, that was his wife…

Here ya go
Sam Carchidi: "You thought they both were pop ups?"
Brett Myers: "Yeah, didn’t you? You think they crushed ‘em?"
SC: "The first one I thought was out, the second one no."
BM: "Yeah, cause you’re a retard, you don’t know shit about fuckin’ baseball. You’re filling in for somebody."
SC: "How do you spell ‘retard’?"
BM: "You know how to spell it, it’s in your fuckin’ vocabulary, I’m sure you know."
SC: "You are classy, I’ll tell ya."
BM: "Go on. [Get] outta here, you fuckin’ idiot."
SC: [pointing at Brett Myers] "You’re the fuckin’ idiot."
BM: "Hey! You pointin’ at me motherfucker?! I’ll tell you what, dude, I’ll knock you mutherfucking out! FUCK YOU!!! You’re tough when fuckin’ people are standing in front of you, aren’t you, you piece of shit! Come on! You fucking idiot. Yeah, you’re tough when fuckin’ people are standing in front of you, you stupid ass."
SC: "I’m a retard?"
BM: "Yeah, that’s right, YOU ARE, you’re a fucking idiot. You ask stupid ass fucking questions!"
Which one?
Him exploding at the reporter, or him beating up his wife?
Does it really matter, aside from the forlorn conclusion that he’s a supreme piece of trash?
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.
Exploding at the reporter....
and no, it doesn’t matter. For some reason, though, I hadn’t ever heard about the reporter thing, and assumed it was related somehow to his recent problems and going to the Minor Leagues, and all that. I knew about the wife-beating thing, and I have a special place (not in my heart) for those who are abusive to women and children. For this reason, the thing with BC and his wife has always bothered me a great deal, even though I feel sure it was not a comparable situation. I know their privacy is important, but I think it would be great if they would just come out and talk about what happened and hopefully take away that stigma.
Hi all
Sure missed posting with you! BTW, there’s no Peachtree TV in Hilton Head, so I missed you all and some games, so great to be back. I went to the game last night, too, and managed to get a decent pic of OKT for the dudes:
Aaaannnd, I posted this over at the “team needs to relax” post, but am going to duplicate it here so maybe it’ll prompt some much needed chuckles:
I didn’t personally see him, but I think royhobbs got spotted by Yunel:
"I swear, Kots, the guy had a pic of your wife – in that very pose – on his shirt! No lie!"
Welcome back!
I haven’t been on here too much since I got back about a week ago, so now these guys are going to have to get used to the female presence again.
Very nice!
Apparently, at the same time you were taking your photograph of OKT, I was gazing at her from afar from my eagle’s nest out in section 408, because I remember her standing just like that.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.
game reminds me of....
Game Tonight reminds me of the game against the DBacks when Brandon Webb was on the bump. Not expected to win, we crushed him and seized control of the game from the start. Granted, the bullpen tried their best to make it interesting but you get the point.

I'm not afraid to admit...
I miss the guy, especially his outlook and cheery smile. He did a lot for the Braves while he was here and I’m not going to overlook that because of his recent performance or the fact that he left. :D
Oh, I miss the person.
Just not the player.

Tomorrow's matchup
Anybody know off the top of your head?
I know I could look it up, but feeling lazy…
check that
tell him to get somebody else to start a fight. I don’t want Chipper getting hurt that way. Tell him to tell Frenchy to start a fight. He’s got some pent up aggression I’m sure.

Can’t wait to see this face back in the dugout….

You guys see him in the booth yesterday?
Man, only thing worth watching in the game (until the bases loaded in the 9th).
I kind of have a man-crush on him I guess.

There is always tomorrow.
Tomorrow might be next May. This was an important series, and we blew it.

We have dug a damn fine hole and getting out of it is going to take some doing. Its not impossible, but something will really have to change. I hope we can do it, I really do. But I also thought we would not get swept.
"Have you ever had your heart broken?"
"Yeah, when we lost the pennant in '87."
I would have been happy.
Had that been in in the first 8 innings.
"Have you ever had your heart broken?"

Just score a run.
At least. Please.

"Have you ever had your heart broken?"

Well, thank you Jeff. For not teasing us. Get it over quickly. That's how I like it.

"Have you ever had your heart broken?"
"Yeah, when we lost the pennant in '87."
-Jurrjens looked fine aside from allowing 50% of the total homers he’s allowed ALL YEAR
-Gonzo was lights out
-We didn’t get shut out
-Hamels got pushed one step closer to a debilitating injury because Charlie Manuel ain’t too bright
-Francoeur turned in another SPECTACULAR night and will hopefully get sent down (I’m BEGGING for him to go to like, Rome) after the game
BRING UP THORMAN AND PUT HIM IN RIGHT!!!!!
I was hoping...
For better results than this… I didn’t go to the game tonight, because I was at home doing homey-cleaning errands, and out of the house to do food shopping for an impending 4th party tomorrow. I had the television on in the background, and I was trying to feign ignorance, hoping that my ambivalence would lead to Jair giving Webb and Herscheiser a run for the consecutive no-ERs streak, but those hopes were dashed early on, with Utley’s bomb.
Jair pitched a hell of a game, again, and it’s unfortunate that he got no run support. Kinda makes me wonder if that if he had some runs to work with, he wouldn’t have to feel like he has to make every single pitch perfect, thus leading to more mistakes (read: homers)
I experienced the game in three channels – AM radio on 680, then on television, and then on FM radio when I left the house, only to hear the finale. Call me sadistic, but I was kinda hoping that Hamels would’ve completed the shutout – nothing like shame to be a hopeful catalyst to some inspired play.
Oh well – not really investing my time into the game, the loss doesn’t sting as bad. But it still sucks, don’t get me wrong. But there’s always tomorrow. Chipper vs. Berkman, in battle of the stud sluggers. I’ll have company, so I’ll be absent again tomorrow. :(
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.
