why, can’t we be blindly optimistic while you are blindly pessimistic?

i have facts to back up my pessimism. plus, theres the fact that tex could singlehandedly lead us to wins, while kotchman…can’t

who cares if Tex can lead us to wins?
He is GONE at the end of the year and we ONLY get 2 draft picks.

Kotchman Kicks ASS
If not for the MONO or Getting hit in the head last year by Russel Martin he would have been ALL STAR status this year.
STOP TALKING shit on Kotch AND WATCH THE BRAVES GAMES FROM HERE ON OUT. KOTCHMAN WILL PROVE TO YOU THAT HE IS WORTH A VOTE IN THE FIRST 2 OPTIONS.
The only thing that you might not like about Kotch is that he does not run fast, and he does this lazy annoying bat flip when he pops out (do to frustration with himself for not getting the job done), other than that you guys got yourself a GREAT PLAYER.
Put Kendry Morales at 1B, and move Sean Rodriguez to 3B......NOW LETS GO WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

with this season being a total letdown…FYF still makes me laugh
I guess I should be one to talk.
There's nights that I can't even walk.
There's days I couldn't give a fuck.
And in between is where I'm stuck.

ok
I picked the first one. Well for one thing Kotchman is under contract for 4 more years. He is cheap, and young, and plays great defense at First. And he is a clutch hitter. And Kotchman and Marek are BETTER than the 2 picks for Tex.
The thing is NOBODY was offering more than this and were NOT goin to. If we could have gotten a Jackson, Scherzer, or Parker then I would have done that deal but its wayyyyy better than Tracy and Owings for Tex.
Thats why I voted for the first one.

how do you know no one was offering more? and how do you know what we got was better than the 2 picks? those would be 2 high quality picks. what if we drafted like we did in 02 when we got francoeur and mccann? or this year, when we got devall and spruill?

What about
Devall and Spruill? they have proved nothing yet and could be garbage you just NEVER know with draft picks dude.

name a good first round draft pick we have had since chipper jones that has contributed at the major league level in some significant fashion

we usually don’t HAVE a first round pick, or end up trading them before they can do much. see: wainwright, adam or devine, joey

you are severely overreacting. YOU stil have not told me what you think would have been fair for the Braves to have gotten in a trade?

right we trade them for major league ready players. Hey look what we did, we got a major league ready player.

I have heard this draft is one of the WEAKEST drafts in a long time. And how do you know that there was BETTER offers out there?

Hate To Say I Told You So...
Well, maybe not. I TOLD you all that there was no market for Tex and this trade proves it. Apparently a Kotchman led package was so much better than what others were offering that we jumped the gun to make it happen. Personally, I’m severely underwhelmed by this deal even though I had low expectations.
P.S.: rockybull (D’Andre?), it’s fun to watch you defend Kotchman after days of calling for Wade Davis, Jeremy Hellickson, Parker/Scherzer, etc. Talk about cognitive dissonance!

It is a terrible trade
Braves didn’t get pitching and considering that their rotation is:
Jurrjens
Campillo
Reyes
Morton
Redmond/Hanson
They are in a lot of troube in 2009 as well as down the road. Not a lot of sure fire pitching prospects in the minors.

Whoah whoah whoah dude. Yes it would have been nice to get a Davis, or Hellickson or Parker or Scherzer but I like Kotchman. I never said nothin bad about Kotchman. I said stuff bad about Tracy and Owings. Those guys are garbage plain and simple. Say what you want ejruiz but I think you was wrong cause you said we would NOT get better than 2 draft picks for Tex guess what we did even though you dont like Kotchman. Get over it. I was thinkin that we MIGHT could have gotten more but I am fine with Kotchman.

Kotchman Projections
I would be interested in knowing what Kotchman might project over the next 4-5 years. What kind of numbers would we likely see in his prime? I think this is his 1st year being a full time starter, though it seems like he has been around forever.

This Is His Second.
And he has been outhit by Kelly Johnson, not just this season, but over the course of their 1,100-1,200 major league AB. We got a solid 2B to play 1B for us!

I’m quite unimpressed with this deal. I wonder if we could’ve gotten a little bit more out of one of those teams. I think Chad Tracy might’ve been a better answer. Truthfully, though, I’m just in an “I don’t care” mode and have been since about 2 months ago. This team has continually underwhelmed me. Why should this trade be any different?

I'm calling it right now

WoW
Excited, im dreadful of this trade. Yes, im fine with Kotchman but Wren could only get another reliver? For how much we gave up for Tex this trade is redicoulus. Yes, we gave up ppl that were blocked but their still top prospects. Why do we need another reliver when Boyer’s the only 1 thats sent into relief? Now if Wren would’ve got Adenhardt and Kotchman i would of been estactic. You guys might say this is too much. Hell no, The Angels acquire a huge upgrade at 1st and if they don’t resign him they get 2 draft picks. Wren needs too really learn how to play his cards right. This is where we need JS to be able to play ppl. Our lineup is pittiful.. You relize the guys were playin now.. No one will probably hit over 20 HR’s. And Adenhardt becomes more valuable to us b/c of Hudson’s injury. Wren simply paniced and hit the red button.

mccann already has 20 homers, and chipper is like 2 away…

bigjoe..
im talking about this lineup we have in the game now.. Chips on the DL and McCann has his concussion.. You know wats even better? just looked at ESPN and they said when Wren first enganged with the Halos.. He asked for Kotchman, Adenhardt and a thrid prospect.. but the Angels didn’t want to put holes in their lineups/plans for 09 and 10.. Wren was the guy with leverage and he let the Halos take it and use it.. Kotchman and Adenhardt would’ve worked.. He doesn’t no how to wheel and deal

Nope
I’m not excited. That’s my 2 cents. With no Hudson, could we not have gotten at least a corpse to stand on the mound?

20 homers
Francoeur will get 20 hom…. oh nevermind. I guess Kotchman doesn’t count in this discussion, but he has 12. But no, we have no power hitters in the lineup tonight. But when all are healthy, Chipper, Kotchman, McCann (or Chipper, McCann, Kotchman) will be a solid 3,4,5 until either Chipper retires or Kotchman leaves. And all of them will have 20 homers by years end. And Francoeur, despite struggling, could go on one of his rare hot streaks and maybe get close to 20 at the end of the year.

kotchman…cleanup? oh jesus christ, kill me now. kotchman is a six hole hitter at best. we need to sign adam dunn, throw him in the cleanup spot, and let heap hit 5th. kotchman can do his 6-hole thing, with THE CORPSE 7th with a possible elevation in mind if he learns how to play baseball like a pro

No offense Joe but that puts us right back where we are this year. We need a right handed thumper to improve us against lefties. Dunn, although very good, is not that guy!

ya know...
I wouldn’t put it outside of the realm of possibility…in the offseason. But I agree; Jason Bay answers several problems (I’m assuming the .900+ OPS Bay, not the .750 OPS Bay).
