The Tim Hudson Injury Impact on a Mark Teixeira Trade
The doom and gloom of yesterday's news that Tim Hudson may have a serious elbow injury is apparently sending ripples through the discussions surrounding the Mark Teixeira trade, and any other possible trades that the Braves may be conducting in the next 48 hours. This development was recently noted by Buster Olney of ESPN:
As the Braves consider offers on a possible deal for first baseman Mark Teixeira, they're faced with the real possibility that the injury to Tim Hudson's pitching elbow is significant. According to sources, the early indications from teams in talks about Teixeira are that the Braves are asking for some form of pitching in return.
Certainly a prolonged injury to Tim Hudson would be a big blow to next year's chances at making a run at the post-season. We should have expected this news on the heels of the news that the Braves have eased their demands for a first baseman in return for Teixeira. The problem that seems to be building is that we're growing holes in our lineup with each passing day. That makes it a bit easier to trade for the best possible talent, but it also means that a rebuilding process could take more than just one off-season or one year.
We'll have to wait see what we get out of the next two days and who is still left standing in a Braves uniform.

Coming into this season, I was already fully expecting us to be a non-factor in the NL East next year. Wren should take his time with this mini-rebuilding effort and prep the team for competition in 2010. Only problem with this thinking is that Chipper’s window of opportunity closes a little more each day.
I guess I should be one to talk.
There's nights that I can't even walk.
There's days I couldn't give a fuck.
And in between is where I'm stuck.
All of this news (most of it bad) makes me feel like the offseason is going to be just as interesting as the trading deadline is proving to be. With the holes we have and the prospects to deal, I see a lot of trades happening during the hot stove.
Agreed
As depressing as things are in this moment, it does make or something to look foward to in the winter!
Finally!
Here’s a quote from our fearless leader, Gondee, that I think we should all pay close attention to: “We’ll have to wait see what we get out of the next two days and who is still left standing in a Braves uniform”. What’s the point of speculating on the future of this team when you have no idea who might comprise it a week, month or year from now. After the deadline, we’ll get a better feel for our plans (whether 2009 or 2010 is the target year) and the offseason will have much to say about that, too. Relax and enjoy the rumors until something becomes concrete. Then you can rant, rave, cheer or cry.

not too bad
It won’t be as bad as it may seem right now.
With an early pick we might be able to land Dustin Ackley (1B, similar swing as Utley), Alex White (similar to Webb and Halladay), Strasburg (who I’d prefer, can hit triple digits with fastball), or any number of decent high schoolers.
Is the growler empty? Have you been sucking on turpentine rags in the garage?

hahahahaha
On a more serious note – what does everyone think the chances are of him re-signing with us on a minor league deal? Would he do it, would we want him? Personally, I can’t see the downside to that situation, if he were open to it.
you fucking KNOW bobby is gonna put in a good word for him because of some horrible reason like “its not his fault he got hurt”
except for bobby IMMEDIATELY promising a spot in the rotation, and having to scramble when he gets hurt
Following the Braves...one long hard drink at a time.
Dude…get real. Your profile pic needs to be your growler and your Braves highball glass.

Trade
Kotchman and a prospect heading over.

Not as good as I had hoped for....
but I also realized that we were not going to get a much better deal for a 2 month rental. I think it beats 2 draft picks as Kotchman will be under control through 2010. It would have been at least 3-5 years before a draft pick would have been ready, and they do not always pan out.
Frank Wren
Wren’s an idiot. What a fucking joke of a trade. This deadline is going to be a disaster.
Its a solid trade
Much Much better than the two draft picks.
Marek has a power arm and could be good
Kotchman is under control for a long time
just think if we had gotten Owings and Tracy, would you be gripping then?
Remember this morning it was looking like the angels would give up Kotchman only if Ohman was included. We could still trade ohman for a solid return.
+1
Why are people saying this is a horrible trade? Kotchman is no Jackson but we aren’t getting Jackson, Scherzer, or Parker period. If Teix was a year and a half maybe. But for the last third of the year.
Kotchman is good defensively at 1st and he won’t be a bad bat and we’ll have him for a long time. Plenty of time for one of our 1B prospects to figure it out.
