Pitching

With all the talk about who we are going to get when we trade ohman and tex i think its important to think about what kinds of prospects we are going to get. Many teams these days like the yankees red sox and mets for instance shell out big bucks to build high powered offenses. Well as we all know pitching wins championships as evidenced by the braves teams of the 90's. Good pitching beats good hitting so even if these teams have great lineups i think they could be beat consistently by a team with 3 very solid starters and an average lineup with a good bat like chipper in the middle. So with this being said i think when we trade teixera and ohman away which i think is looking more and more likely, we should look to get some solid pitching prospects as opposed to getting someone like casey kotchman or james loney. Now I know at some point we are gonna need some run production from one place or another but i think we need to focus on our rotation because right now beyond jurrgens and hudson there is not a lot of inconsistency.

dude

first off you are right that pitching beats offense but you are NOT right when you said as evidenced by the Braves teams of the 90’s. Dude we only one ONE championship. I still believe that pitching beats offenses but POWER pitchers are successfull in the postseason so if we trade for pitchers then we want POWER pitchers in return if we are gonna go by YOUR logic.

Second off if Loney was in a deal on the Dodgers side we would take that deal in a HEARTBEAT. I would not even care about a pitching prospect. Loney is the real deal at First and would be great for us for a long time. You dont sacrifise that for pitching prospects that may or may not flame out.

Im sorry but if i’m not mistaken we went to 5 world series in the 90’s. If thats not success i dont know what is. It is incredibly hard to get to the world series and the fact that we got to five only speaks to our success. I dont quite understand your whole thing about the power pitchers I just said that I thought we needed good pitchers, power pitchers or not. And lastly i figured someone would say something about the loney comment. I know we would be incredibly lucky to get him but i just think that i would rather have a pitcher of equal value to him

well

yes that was success dude. NEVER said it was not success BUT we ONLY won the World Series Championship ONCE. So even though it was successful just how successful was it? Good enough for 1 championship. ALOT of teams did not win a championship during that time so I am glad to have been a Braves fan and STILL am glad to be a Braves fan. And yes power pitchers dominate in the postseason NOT control pitchers that is why I said I want power pitchers rather than control pitchers. Smoltz and Beckett dominate in the postseason. Glavine and Maddux did NOT dominate in the postseason. You understand what I am talkin about? What pitcher do you see us gettin that would be equal value of Loney?

well just looking at our rumored trade partners. the twins angels red sox d backs i think liriano is probably just as untouchable as loney i think it would maybe be a small strech to get bucholz from the sox i think we could get saunders and another prospect from the angels and maybe max scherzer straight up from the dbacks. i also wonder if we could get owings from them. Now this is all off the top of my head and havent had a chance to look at their prospect lists so feel free to flame away again im not saying i think we could get these players but id love it if we could and i think they are on the same level as loney with liriano maybe being even more untouchable

Tom Glavine - 1995 World Series MVP

I don’t understand your power pitching dominates the post season thing. You just need good pitching.

Anyone think the Cards had a better pitching staff than the Tigers in 2006? How about 2005 when the Astros had Clemens, Petttite, Oswalt, and Lidge vs Jenks, Buerhle, and a bunch of guys having career years?

Of course we want to get some pitching depth if we can but we also have a massive, gaping hole at 1B without Tex. Our chances of getting Loney are pretty thing too, but who knows. This is the organization that treats LaRoche like he’s garbage and trades prospects for Casey “Gamer” Blake. If only Teix was a gamer. Then we could get Kemp, Loney, and Kershaw.

after the horrid deal for casey blake, i’m wondering if the dodgers would do a deal of loney/laroche. that would be AWESOME

Like that deal

but not sure we could use Laroche. Personally I want Kotchman/Juan Rivera for Tex/Ohman. That would solve two needs, of course it’ll never happen but I can daydream can’t I?

LaRoche would be able to play 1st, wouldn't he?

Or if Chipper is willing to move, that would work too. LaRoche would be awesome and I hope the Dodgers are that stupid.

Did you see their deal for Casey Blake?

They give the Pirates a run for their money on getting totally fleeced.

If

Ned Colletti trades Loney for Tex then I hope the Dodgers NEVER fire him. hahahhaaha

But even he aint that stupid.
