My 2 cents

I have to say that I have been on Cox’s side for the last two weeks. That lasted right up until Victorino used Heap’s head as a tackling dummy. Now with Chipper likely to go on the DL, Huddy questionable, Hampton in the rotation, etc… I’ve changed my stance. Let’s see what we can get for Tex, Ohman, Kotsay and hope next year we find some enthusiasm/desire.

What did McCann getting railroaded...

...have to do with Cox?

"Have you ever had your heart broken?"
"Yeah, when we lost the pennant in '87."

Sorry, could've been clearer

I’ve been siding with Cox, meaning I wanted the Braves to be buyers, until Victorino railroaded McCann. This is an assumption but the look on McCann’s face right after it happened tell’s me he very well could have a concussion, thus missing some time.

Thankfully it ended with the most desirable outcome. I can’t say I’ve ever rooted against the Braves before like that.

There’s a market for Teixeira and Ohman. I expect Ohman to go when Fuentes does. Teixeira’s gone as long as the Braves don’t make extravagant demands. He’d instantly improve the Angels, Twins, Tigers, and D-Backs. Someone will offer something worth taking by Thursday. The market for Kotsay will be more tepid I’m guessing and I’d ask for only a minor prospect back if I were the Braves just to rid ourselves of the $1 million remaining on his contract.

Fuentes

According to Dan O’Dowd via Jon Heyman via mlbtraderumors, Fuentes isn’t likely to be traded. I think this could up the market for Ohman since arguably the best LHRP is off the market now.

true, but

the Tigers have nothing that we would want except Porcello and I doubt they would trade him for Tex. I seriously doubt the Twins trade for Tex you just dont usually seein that done by them. Angels, D-Backs, Rays, Red Sox, and Dodgers are prolly the suitors. I heard that they dont wont to put Pena at DH but they could just be sayin that to try to steal Tex. You never know what the Red Sox will do. Either way whatever happens you would think we would get better than 2 draft picks for Tex because there is not CLEAR World Series winning team, its all up in the air and Tex could put a team over the top especially since he is a second half player. It will really be interesting to see what we get for Ohman because that team would also get a second round pick in the draft also. We should get a good prospect back for him.

It will be interesting to see what the true market is for Tex. Have a feeling nothing will happen until right before the deadline.

Just saw where Buster Olney from ESPN says the Braves wanted Jackson from the D-Backs in any Tex deal but Olney says there is no chance the D-Backs trade Jackson. Olney also says the Braves are going to have a tough time finding a team to deal with for Tex.

I like Olney as an analyst but I don’t trust the rumors he hears.

I personally think we will trade Tex and just like last years trade to acquire him opinions will be divided over what we get.

How about

Tex to Boston for Justin Masterson, Lars Anderson, and Ryan Kalish. I think that would be a pretty good deal for both sides.

as a braves fan

i would love that deal. but from a red sox standpoint – are you kidding me? 3 top tier prospects for 2 months of tex? get real.

by son.of.sourman on Jul 28, 2008 1:34 PM EDT up reply actions

My feelings are to trade Tex, but only if the right deal is out there. Don’t trade him just to trade him and get back a marginal return. Ohman…I dunno, I’d like to keep him to try to resign him, but I admit to not knowing how likely that would be. With the recent rumor being that Fuentes is unlikely to be traded, we might be able to get a nice return for him.

theres no real reason for us to keep ohman…he can’t really win us games, whereas tex can. ohman should be in high demand, and we should be able to get at least one top ten (system, not overall) prospect. maybe the dodgers are so desperate to get rid of laroche that they’d give him up to get ohman.
