Trade Rumors on MLBTR

Anyone see the article MLBTR linked to about the Braves' potential moves? Most of it was the same ol' same ol:' buyers or sellers, trading Tex, Ohman, etc, maybe picking up Nady or bay, but it also mentions that the Braves will entertain offers for Francoeur.

Trading Francoeur is news to me. I wonder if his attitude about being demoted to AA is a factor? And, I wonder if he even has any trade value? I'm guessing that it won't happen, but it is interesting. Maybe Francoeur would be better with a fresh start, where he's not the chosen one.

I think that under no circumstances should they sell low on Frenchy. What do they expect to get for him at this point. The royals dont have that great a farm system, they do have guys like Moustakas and maybe a young arm like Hochevar, but either of those guys would be tough to get, and are probably unavailable. Frenchy should stay put. I would rather have him and his still existent but possibly fading upside over a guy like Dejesus or some other Royal big leaguer

What’s wrong with DeJesus? He was one of the people brought up around here when talking about a stop-gap CFer (before we got Kotsay and his back). He’s having a great year with the bat, and his defense is average at least. And according to BP he’s provided the Royals with 2 full wins more than Francoeur has done for us.

Just playing devil’s advocate…

I guess I should be one to talk.

I like Dejesus as a player, but I dont think that he is enough of a return for Frenchy. I think if we traded him for Dejesus who is having a great year, probably his best year of his career, we would be selling low. Just my opinion. If we got Dejesus and others i would be fine with that.

Yeah, I thought I knew what you were getting at. I just don’t think you should lump DeJesus in the same sentence as “some othe Royal big leaguer” in the same sentence. He cleary has value, whereas alot of players on that team do not.

Fair enough. We could ask for Tony Pena Jr back in the deal and slot him the back end of the bullpen after his outing the other day.

Ron Mahay or Joakim Soria.

It would never happen, but we can all dream.

No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.

I don't want Ron Mahay

I’d want Grienke back for Francoeur, or Soria. Grienke has more of a chance than Soria

by NEBravesFan33 on Jul 24, 2008 3:30 PM EDT reply actions

I would agree with this. Greinke for Frenchy straight up and you got yourselves a deal. That offer probably wont be made by KC however.

by gopherbroke on Jul 24, 2008 4:26 PM EDT up reply actions

It certainly won’t. Francoeur’s value right now is similar to any other 24 year old who can’t hit major league pitching; essentially nil. Greinke is the same age and is succeeding as a starter, with the chance to be a top of the rotation guy.

Greinke and Soria???

Put down the Kool-Aid and take a look at what you’re proposing. Following what was obviously a fluke rookie half-season, Francouer has posted OPS+ of 87, 103 and 74, leaving his career mark at 95. For those of you who don’t know, 100 is the average OPS+, so he’s actually been a notch below that. The pitching equivalent of OPS+ is ERA+. Greinke’s been below average there once in his career (couple years back) and Soria’s marks have been off the charts. If we trade Francouer, it’ll be for an equally busted prospect.

I demand we get Bob Hamelin in return!

That would certainly qualify as a “busted prospect.” Dude dropped off the face of the Earth like he was never here in the first place.

If the Braves think Francoeur will never learn plate discipline, then I don’t think this is selling low. If the Braves think he’ll be a .270/.312/.440 player for the next few years, then it’s probably a good idea to trade him with the right offer. The PR nightmare is the hard part. If the Braves think Frenchy will actually learn what a strike looks like, then they better keep him. Some GM might be dumb enough to offer something of value for his defense/arm, 100 RBI seasons, plays everyday everyday attitude, aggressive approach, “only 24”ness, and the fact that he looks like a ballplayer.
