Don't trade Teixeira
Why on earth would the Braves think of trading Mark Teixeira ? The combination of Chipper and Mark (back to back power hitting switch hitters) is very rare and usually very productive. If the Braves are to make the playoffs ( it's way too early to believe they won't) they need Teixeira in the lineup. If they aren't planning to make the playoffs, what's the point of a trade for another can of pitchers ? Let your current pitchers get healthy over the winter and try again next year. But better still, win about 12 out of 15 and check the standings again. The Mets did it, so can the Braves. It's not too late for this year !

It’s rather simple. Tex is a free agent after the season and unlikely to stay here so if we don’t like our chances this year you need to see what you can get for him.

Right. While I understand where Big_Popup is coming from, dwbrave is on the money here. He’s gonna cost too much money to keep him around next year, so the team is left without any options. That of course has a lot to do with how good you think our chances are at the playoffs. (Slim to none, btw, objectively speaking)
Trust me: Frank Wren would love to keep Tex around. There’s no denying his talent or value to the team.
The choices are pretty much let him walk away for free at the end of the year (with no return), or deal him away now and get someone else in return.

12 of 15
If it was so easy to win 12 of the next 15 games, don’t you think that they would have started doing that by now? The season’s over, time to trade off some players and get some prospects for the future.

if chipper and hud are out for any extended period of time, he needs to go.

Bingo.
I guess I should be one to talk.
There's nights that I can't even walk.
There's days I couldn't give a fuck.
And in between is where I'm stuck.

I’ll third that thought…I just can’t decide who we should target in return. It would be nice to get a highly-ranked corner IF prospect, particularly at 3b (I think Flowers makes his mark as a first baseman).

we have one capable third base prospect.
Jon Gilmore in Danville. He is about 3 years away from seeing any MLB action.

Come on now!!
This team is lifeless. 3 1 hitters in 3 weeks?!! I love ‘em, but getting your head caved in by the Phillies and Cubs and Brewers(the 3 best teams in the league) is not indicative of a playoff team.
I will be thoroughly disappointed if they don’t trade Tex. I live in the Bay Area. Giants fans are still lamenting the Liriano/Nathan trade for AJ. If the Braves don’t get a return on their investment, the Tex trade has a good chance of surpassing that one on the debacle scale.
It would be different if they stood a chance in hell of resigning him, something that I would think they would, especially with all the payroll coming off this winter, but I’m resigned to the fact that they would/will indeed let him walk if they don’t trade him.
