Minor League Recaps: 7/22 (Another No Hitter)
Richmond 3, Scranton/WB 4
- B. Canizares 2-4 2B, HR(12), 2 RBI
- D. Hernandez 2-4
- J. Parr 6IP 1H 1R 2BB 4K
Well James Parr is getting better with each of his starts in AAA and really pitched well tonight. As I have said, I don't know if this guy will be a starter in the majors but he has been compared to a poor man's Kyle Davies in the past (would that make him Good Davies or Evil Davies?). He will get a chance at some point with the Braves I believe and he probably deserves to be on someones prospect list.
Mississippi @ Birmingham - PPnd due to Wet Grounds
Frederick 0, Myrtle Beach 10
- G. Hernandez 1-3 2B, 3 BB, K
- E. Campbell 1-3 HR(13), 3 BB, K
- E. Mejia 2-3 2B, HR(14), 3 RBI, 2 BB
- T. Jones 2-5 2B, 4 RBI
- J. Owings 3-5 3B, SB(9)
If Tyler Flowers had played in this game he would have walked 11 times. Eric Campbell continues to hit well this month, raising his average to .263 and his SLG to .505. I wonder if he will be a trade chip if not now in the off season. Gorkys Hernandez has been pretty bad at the play in July but he has been ok in his past 10 games so he might be recovering a little. Ryne Reynoso also pitched 6 strong innings in this one.
Rome 0, West Virginia 7
- J. Heyward 1-4 K
- R. Sullivan 4.2IP 8H 4R 0BB 1K
I'm going to see the last game in this set tomorrow at noon. I wish Heyward or Freeman were in the middle of one of their hot streaks. Richard Sullivan is a draft pick of ours out of SCAD this year and was promoted pretty quick to Rome. He is a big lefty with decent stuff and throws from a quirky delivery apparently. A lot of people seem to like him though and he could have some room to learn since he was playing at an NAIA school.
Pulaski 0, Danville 1 (Final 7.1 Innings)
- J. Gilmore 1-3 2B
- D. Francis 6IP 0H 0R 2 BB 16K
- M. Small 0.1IP 0H 0R 0BB 0K
Seriously, 16 strikeouts? Just look again for a second. Got it? Cause the guy MAN recorded 18 total outs. So only two people got out in some ways other than a strike out. Thats pretty impressive. Actually even more impressive is he got the elusive 4 strike out inning in the 4th. Francis throws in the low 90s with a curve and change but something must have been working for him tonight.
Yankees 4, Braves 5
- D. Delgado 4.1IP 3H 0R 1BB 4K
Dimaster Delgado is supposed to be one of our top foreign signings from recent years and so far he is doing well in his first 6 games of complex ball. He has only allowed runs to score in 2 of his 6 outings and has 23K in 22IP and has only given up 6 BB.

You need to adjust the Danville score
It was a 1-0 final score.

What's the story on Francis?
Hey everyone, Jays fan by day, occasional reader by… well, I guess it is the night right now. Anyway, what’s the word on Francis? His limited numbers are obviously incredible – is this a guy to be really excited about?

he was a pitcher at a Jr. College in Tennessee when we drafted him this year. The braves are great at drafting out of Jr college programs, but honestly there isn’t much to find on this guy except for his Danville stats.

So you missed out on Freeman today, eh?

Actually I didn’t see the game at all. It was raining when i got up and it is still cloudy. I didn’t really feel like sititng out in that weather so I went and saw The Dark Knight instead.

Good move
Dark Knight was a stellar movie. One of the best I’ve ever seen.
I’d love to try and catch another Rome game…maybe I’d get to see Heyward play this time. Looking at the rest of their schedule, which home game would you recommend I try to go see? I’m not sure about top prospects for the other teams.

No idea about prospects, but....
The games in the middle of August are interesting to me – Haggerstown (Nationals) and Lake County (Indians) because they’re from the North, and Rome doesn’t play many games against them.
Then you do have games against Augusta (Giants), Greenville (Red Sox) and Charleston (Yankees), so if anybody knows the propects on those teams, have at it.
Saturday August 16th is Haralson County night, so I’ll be there for that, as I teach in Haralson County. I might also get to be in the photographer’s camera well in the dugout for that one (if the chamber of commerce guy can pull that string for me – he’s a professional photographer with a press pass….we’ll see).
The only good promotion left is the Rome Braves Football Giveaway on August 15th. There are others, but you don’t get anything….you know, like a prize! I can’t stand Birdzerk and all those other distractions. Myron Noodleman is good, but the rest just annoy me.
Otherwise, I’m going sometime this weekend – either Friday or Saturday, don’t know which yet. Plus, I’m going at the end of the season to see them play Columbus and one of my favorite former Rome Braves, Chase Fontaine. I’m going to make the trip one more time this year to see them play at Columbus because the team is moving to Kentucky next year. The stadium in Columbus is really cool – old and nostalgic – but the fan base stinks.

No doubt. I went to see the movie with some reticence even though ALL of my friends whose opinions I trust inherently told me it was great. And it was really really amazing. I can’t put words to how well Heath Ledger played the part of the Joker other than to say he might have been the best villain I’ve ever seen in a movie.
