Time for a Fire-Sale !
Braves Fans,
I am sorry to tell you all but the season is over as of now. We should be sellers in this years trade dealine dealings and get something of real value for Tex b/c we are not going to pay him 160 million over 8 years. Also dumping Chipper Jones would make sense due to his age and the fact that he is having his best season in the past five. Now before you all attack me on this Chipper Jones thing it is true he is the face of the franchise and has been it for almost ten plus seasons now but it is time for a change. The answer is simple the Braves have been on top for a while basically the entire 1990's era but it is time to get rid of old players/coaches including Bobby Cox and move forward (hey how about Eddie Perez as our new coach) !!
End of the season we are going to cut even more payroll with Hampton, Glavine and Tex all leaving free agency if not before so we can then be buyers in free agency for the first time since about the late 90's.

Third one of the night!
Thanks for playing!

Yeah...
At this point its easy to ignore. Especially when you are just trying to start a fire by saying we should unload the best hitter in baseball right now. It does not deserve any response other than the one I have already provided.

Thank you JUG
i wanted to thank you, becuase of your signature i set out the other day to watch For the Love of the Game and remembered how great of a movie that was…. this might be an idea for a future pick-me-up thread following a loss. it has so many great lines and it can be watched with a non-sports loving female which is always a plus. Its harder to get a girl with no attachment to baseball to watch Bull Durham or Field of Dreams, but For the Love of the Game is centered around a love story so it works for everyone.
"The game doesn't stink Mr. Wheeler. It's a GREAT GAME."
I think parting with chipper could be good for both parties
Chipper is a great player and his loyalty and presence on the team are very valuable. However, he could seriously prolong his career by DHing in American League. His injury record over the past several years show that he has become increasingly unable to stay healthy and that takes a toll on his hitting as well. If the Braves could trade him to an AL team looking for a HOF caliber DH, then both could make out quite well.
theres no use justifying trading not only our best hitter, but the best hitter in the game right now (as he plays on one leg), but the face of the franchise. at a certain point I’d be happy if the Braves did the respectful honorable thing and allow Chipper to play here as long as he wants. Thats how it used to work, a guy that was a legend was allowed to play until he felt it was time to go. Make no mistake about it as far as Braves from this generation Larry Wayne is a Legend and you don’t trade a guy like that and i dont care how old he is. The only way I would even consider trading Chipper is if we get Eva Longoria (the baseball player, i just enjoy calling him a girl), or David Wright a young guy who has huge upside and is already doing well. Other than those two, whcih theres no way we’ll get either of them, I don’t trade Chipper even if someone is holding a gun to my head. Chipper started as a Braves and he needs to retire as one.
P.S. next time we win I am gonna make a point to make a post about how great we are.

i didn't mean this season, maybe in a year or two
but all loyalty aside, successful teams these days have been very good about cutting the cord before things get really bad. the bosox, for instance, and guys like johnny damon.
and how about tommy glavine? he was a brave to begin with, a future hall of famer (sound familiar?) and didn’t resign him. and you know what? it was a good idea. just look at his stats relative to his contract. resigning him, however, was a terrible idea.

OLD AS DIRT
FIne I will remind you all of this when we resign him, he moves to first base and is hitting .225 with blow out knees, and his badfeet, quads, and whatever else will go wrong with him. Just wait until Chipper is so old and is doing nothing but blocking young talent which he will eventually do and maybe then you all will wake up. I am sick of him being hurt all the time and he why not sell him while his stock is at an all-time high. Whatever, you all can have your opinions but just remember I said it first.
80-80 record best case !!

when we are 8 or 9 games up in first, if you’re still around.

The Good and The Bad
I stand firmly on both sides of this argument. I’m so sick of watching mediocre baseball. I really love this team and I have really high hopes with all the promising young talent we have for the next few years. That being said, I wouldn’t mind seeing the Braves do some major dealing at the deadline, as sellers. Tex needs to go to whoever will take him off our hands IF we can get anything for him. We’ve got way too much young talent to keep this up. We’ve got a good core group of young guys and we need to start building around them instead of trying to win now, much like the Mets have done the past few years. We could very easily turn this thing around this year and I’ll be front and center cheering the Braves on but Frank Wren needs to be open to anything at the deadline.
P.S. Whoever said trade Chipper at any point, that’s blasphemy. My brain actually shut down for 2 minutes because it couldn’t process that thought.
why wouldnt we trade Chipper theres a huge market out there for 3B in their late thirties with nagging injuries.
This is not a knock on CHipper, the guy is an absolute stud, but honestly even if trading him was a good idea (which it isnt) we arent gonna get a good rate of return on him, seeing as he is old and injury prone.

Holty??
You guys know who this is don’t you? It’s JC Holt! Trying to shove Chipper out the door a little early and get his roster spot on Atlanta’s infield. Shame, JC!
Oh, I see what you did there!
