Nationals @ Braves Game 2 Open Thread: Traffic in the ATL

Washington @ Atlanta

The Georgia DOT is doing construction on the north side of the connector, so if you're headed down to the game via 75 or 85 southbound you may want to allow an extra half-hour to an hour to get to the park. I drove up 85 today and traffic was backed up all the way back to Georgia 400. I would recommend taking 285 to 20 and get to Atlanta that way -- especially if you're one of those who don't like to sit in traffic. Check out this website before you leave for the park.

And back at the Ted, we won a one-run game last night.... how about that. Hudson had a good outing last night despite the line score that says he gave up five runs. Let's hope Gonzo was just shaking off the second half cobwebs, or serving up some free hits for ex-teammates. The surgeon goes tonight.... let's keep this winning streak going!

Pictures speak louder than words

At game tonight, rooting for our Kid

No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.

don't think I'll be around...

somebody post victory pictures, should we need them!

Just because it's your birthday weekend...

we’ll let you slide! Nice posting of them last night, btw. I like the side by side.

I’ll be at the game, too, sitting behind Greg White (or whatever we’re calling him these days, I kinda got lost when I went on vacation), or Norton-y, or Prado…anyway, left field.

by Lizziebeth on Jul 19, 2008 3:37 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

You liked that?

I thought I’d mix it up a bit…glad somebody noticed!

I’m sure I’ll get to watch part of the game, just don’t think I’ll be posting.

Uh huh

I bet you did that by accident. Stop acting like you did that deliberately.

ATLANTA—Yunel Escobar might not be ready to return to the lineup during this weekend’s series against the Nationals, but the Braves could get Rafael Soriano back as soon as Sunday.

Soriano returned to Atlanta from his native Dominican Republic on Friday, and during a meeting with Braves manager Bobby Cox, the right-handed reliever indicated he was ready to end his lengthy stint on the disabled list. He’ll test his right elbow during a bullpen session at Turner Field on Saturday and then possibly be activated on Sunday.

“He thinks he’s real close to being 100 percent,” Cox said of Soriano, whose troublesome elbow has limited him to just nine appearances this year.

Soriano, whose current stint on the disabled list began on June 10, made three recent Minor League rehab appearances in the Dominican Summer League. He was assigned there to allow him to tend to some undisclosed family matters while testing his elbow.

“I feel everything will be all right,” said Soriano, whose elbow discomfort began during Spring Training. “I feel good. I feel great.”

While Soriano could be activated later this weekend, there’s still a chance that Escobar’s strained left shoulder could force him to go on the disabled list. Braves general manager Frank Wren said the 25-year-old shortstop would be evaluated over the next couple of days before such a decision is made.

Escobar was scheduled to meet with one of the Braves’ doctors after Friday night’s series opener against the Nationals. The shoulder strain which he suffered on June 24 and aggravated on July 9 has prevented him from taking batting practice during Thursday’s voluntary team workout and again on Friday afternoon.

Escobar hasn’t played since July 9, and if he is placed on the disabled list, he could be eligible to return for the July 25 series opener against the Phillies in Philadelphia.

they’d better not strip GONZO of his closer’s role. and i’m all for a scorching brent lillibridge in the lineup for a little while longer

by bigjoe on Jul 19, 2008 5:50 PM EDT   0 recs

they might, but Soriano’s elbow will “tender up” again after his first game, and it’ll be back to Gonzo.

by 10-4 on Jul 19, 2008 7:20 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Yeah, but Gonzo looked to struggle last night...

Might not be a bad thing to have Soriano.

wasn’t lannan the pitcher when the struggling corpse of jeff francoeur had the best game of his career?

by bigjoe on Jul 19, 2008 7:40 PM EDT   0 recs

Yep...

April 12—had 2 HRs and 7 RBI. He looked pretty corpse-like in that last AB, though.

stolen base, heap? unfortunately, he thinks he’s fucking blanco now, and fails

I hope the game goes 22 innings!

Maybe I’ll make a TC sign!

oh wait...

I was thinking of the ScumTrust seats with the free food. Still, fantastic seats, and they do have waiter service so you don’t have to go get your food. I sat in that section for the Mets game I went to in May.

by sddbaker on Jul 19, 2008 7:53 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

i can get those seats for 2 weeks from yesterday…but no free beer and food. i’m torn

by bigjoe on Jul 19, 2008 7:57 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I’ll be there, taking pictures with a new (to me) telephoto lens…maybe I’ll get lucky and get one of you and your fabulous g/f (she got these awesome tix for you, right?).

thumbs woulda had him

by bigjoe on Jul 19, 2008 7:49 PM EDT   0 recs

i’m thinking of doing the $75 all you can eat seats that have beer included. thoughts?

by bigjoe on Jul 19, 2008 7:49 PM EDT   0 recs

Well,

I don’t drink beer, but it seems like a pretty good deal if you do. Which I have gathered is the case here.

by sddbaker on Jul 19, 2008 7:55 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I’ve been in these seats. The view is pretty bad, but the food is decent. They mark your wristband with each beer you’re served—I don’t know if they cut you off after a certain number.

how the fuck do we only have one run? this guy is so lucky

by bigjoe on Jul 19, 2008 8:41 PM EDT   0 recs

This is beginning to suck.

They’re getting men all over the bases, but they can’t get them in.

by mcboyt on Jul 19, 2008 8:46 PM EDT   0 recs

we’ve left 8 men on through 5. not good

by bigjoe on Jul 19, 2008 8:46 PM EDT   0 recs

JJ's staying steady, though

8 pitches that inning. If they can just SCORE SOME DAMN RUNS

by mcboyt on Jul 19, 2008 8:46 PM EDT   0 recs

yeah, he’s CRUISING. 83 through 6…he could go 8 tonight, which is what we really need

SB: B McCann (2)

THIS WASN’T HIS FIRST??!?

by bigjoe on Jul 19, 2008 8:47 PM EDT   0 recs

He had one against Seattle 6/21.

Took them by surprise, I’d say.

by mcboyt on Jul 19, 2008 8:51 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Did I just see what I think I saw?

Is FYF on base twice in a row?

by mcboyt on Jul 19, 2008 8:48 PM EDT   0 recs

bobby was seriously gonna PH for jair right now? WHY??

by bigjoe on Jul 19, 2008 8:52 PM EDT   0 recs

especially with gotay of all people. i hope he doesn’t come back, i’m less than impressed and can see why the mets cut him

by bigjoe on Jul 19, 2008 8:52 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I'm beyond trying to figure out Bobby's decisions at this point

Do you get the feeling he’s just playing out the string?

by mcboyt on Jul 19, 2008 8:54 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

he resigned for next year, so he’s not just on a farewell tour

by bigjoe on Jul 19, 2008 8:56 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Yes, and unfortunately he gets to play it out at least one more year.

by 10-4 on Jul 19, 2008 9:18 PM EDT   0 recs

Play him more!

Maybe we can get an earlier draft position!

by mcboyt on Jul 19, 2008 9:19 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Stupid Nationals announcers...

...talking about Lannon, and how “the really great ones” get it done, even without their best stuff.

by sddbaker on Jul 19, 2008 9:18 PM EDT   0 recs

everything is relative...

Nationals announcers forget what good baseball looks like.
