Home Run Derby predictions
Winners win....nothing.
Contestants
- Lance Berkman, Astros (switch)
- Ryan Braun, Brewers (righty)
- Josh Hamilton, Rangers (lefty)
- Evan Longoria, Rays (righty)
- Justin Morneau, Twins (lefty)
- Grady Sizemore, Indians (lefty)
- Dan Uggla, Marlins (righty)
- Chase Utley, Phillies (lefty)
Yankee Stadium
Lefties will have the advantage in this park. Righties have a short porch in left field, too, but the left-center field fence is deeper than the right-center field fence.
I wish Morneau wasn't in the derby this year. Surely someone else could have been able to participate. He was pathetic last year in San Fransisco. I would have liked to have seen B-Mac in there.

this is less of a prediction, more of a statement..
i never want a Braves player in the Home Run Derby… while i believe it is an awesome event, which i watch nearly every year… it screws up a players swing far too much..i.e. Arbeu two years ago (he hit like 23 HR in the derby and then 1 or 2 the rest of the year)
although if it screws up a players swing maybe Frenchy should try it…im kidding, it actually loooks like three days in AA may have actually helped him (kknock of as much wood as i possibly can at a given time)
and my prediction is a finals of Josh Hamilton and Ryan Braun.. and i think Hamilton takes it

Maybe Andruw can get into the HRD to fix his swing.

Druw was in a home run derby a few years ago in Vegas (that stadium is huge to center) and he finished second. I believe it was the year before he hit 51

Andruw
Andruw was in the 2005 HR Derby in Detroit. I was there, but late, and missed the entire Bobby Abreu barrage to open the derby. Andruw also had a HR that hit the “Hit It Here” sign, which I think meant that a lucky fan won a car, or money, or something.

re:
I’ve got Sizemore and Hamilton on fantasy teams, so here’s hoping they both sit down early.

IF
the format stays the same as last year, I’m going out on a limb by predicting Longoria will take it.
If the format changes, I can’t remember where I heard the rumors – maybe on XM radio, then I’m going with Hamilton.

My call is Braun. I think he has the most legit power out of any of these guys. Utley also has a chance I think because he has the type of swing where he can just get locked in and yank a few out. Also he is all wrists so he won’t get tired as fast.

My money
Dan Uggla beating Evan Longoria in the finals.
Uggla’s got the fastest, most effortless looking swing out of all those guys, and I’m willing to bet more raw physical strength than all the others. Berkman, Morneau and Sizemore have more, I guess I’d say “scientific” or rather, just plain sweeter, truer swings that look as good as well as they deliver, but they’ll tire out. I have Longoria going the distance, simply because he’s the youngest, and I think he’ll be out to try to prove something, even if it does mess up his swing. Utley will hang around late for the sheer fact that he is a Philly in the derby, and they always do well, much to my dismay.
Doesn’t really matter though. I don’t really care much who wins, I’ll be watching American Gladiators through the first round, and I’ll have more than enough time to catch the remaining two hours of this overblown, too-long event.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.

I have to go with a lefty, and I like Hamilton’s story. I’m going to go with him just because I’ll be rooting for him.
Just caught up on all the open threads from over the weekend…whew, that was a lot of reading! Good stuff though.

I like Hamilton and Uggla in the finals.
I guess I should be one to talk.
There's nights that I can't even walk.
There's days I couldn't give a fuck.
And in between is where I'm stuck.

I predict Chris Berman will force me to mute or change the channel by the third hitter.
On a side note, i always wanted to see Klesko in the Derby, i thought that woulda been quite a show.

ChUtley.
I know it’s going out on a limb a bit. but I feel like he has a swing where he can keep it going for a few rounds and not get tired.

Fat Elvis over Braun
with Uggla making it close. Berkman’s just so locked in this year that I’m picking him. He’s an animal.
I think Hamilton will be the disappointment of the derby. His road split is pretty ugly.
