Braves @ Padres Open Thread: The Maddog Days of Summer
Atlanta Braves at San Diego Padres, Jul 12, 2008 10:05 PM EDT
Greg Maddux hasn't won in his last 11 starts, so fate would certainly like to put us in the position to get him out of his slide. With the way our offense wimpered all night long against Jake Peavy yesterday there's a good chance Maddux will break through with a win. Optimism be dammed.

I love Greg Maddux
But he is hanging pitches like nobody else’s business lately, and those are what are killing him. The term “meatball” has a whole different meaning when watching Maddux pitch lately, because I swear the ball looks bigger when it leaves his fingertips.
I’ll be frank though – as much as I love tThe ‘Ol Professor, I’d rather see a Braves win, even if it as his expense, Pujols bless his soul.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.

I have not seen him pitch much this year
but it seems to me that its run-support that has been killing him worse than being up in the zone. That’s not to say he isn’t hanging pitches, but he still seems to be able to pitch well enough, he just is on a crappy team. That beat us last night…
You going to be around tonight? My optimism pretty much diminished without you last night.

I'm here
I went to a movie last night, and watched the game on DVR, and vomited afterwards. I don’t feel like doing much tonight other than staying home. Having your own house kinda tends to settle you down, or at least it did for me. . .

I was at the game the last time Maddux pitched at Turner Field. He was given an extremely generous strike zone, and you could tell the young guys like McCann and Francoeur were both star-struck by Maddux, especially by the way McCann got caught looking on backdoor, that only Maddux would get the call on, and Francoeur grounded right back to Maddux. After for whatever reason that Maddux was pulled in the 4th forfeiting the chance for the win, Cla Meredith didn’t get the generous strike zone, and we ended up beating him, and getting Smoltz the win.

I just don’t buy what Chipper says about not getting any good pitches to hit lately. I’m so damn tired of them tipping their cap to the opposing pitcher. “You know, this guy’s been at AAA all year, but he sure didn’t look like it tonight”
by 10-4 on Jul 12, 2008 10:22 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I agree.
When Chipper opens his hips too early and doesn’t stay back on the ball, it has nothing to do with getting a pitch to hit.

Ugh
Quick story – friend from DC came down, watched Braves lose to the Nationals. He needed toiletries, since he can’t bring any on a plane. We go to a 24-hr. Wal-Mart, and there is only one self-register open. Woman in front of me has her hubby and baby, at 1:30 a.m., and proceeds to scan all her groceries. I sigh in relief, when she finishes. But then she reaches into her cart and proceeds to remove and scan a large stack of women’s underwear.
I thought the night couldn’t get worse, but then she started to pay for her purchase in $1 bills, using them all before she started using the big bills, to which when the change came out, she got, surprise! $1 bills.

Bham BBQs
we have some GA-style sweet sauce and some Carolina vinegary, with some spice to it. I’m a big BBQ fan…ribs and pulled.

As corny as it sounds
BBQ is a culture in its own. The flavors and quality usually take care of themselves, if the culture is well refined.

ah we have a number of good ones too...
I was just curious, because I would think Atlanta would, I just have never really heard about them.

Don't get me started on Buford Highway
If you’ve ever had Korean food, or been interested in Korean food, the only one single good Korean restaurant in the entire city of Atlanta is on Buford Highway, in the Pinetree Plaza.

Get started...
I mean, can you possibly run out of places to try?! It’s awesome. I wish I made more money, just to go out to eat a couple of times a week. Which place and what are some of the dishes you like best?
by Lizziebeth on Jul 13, 2008 1:51 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
The place is called Korea Garden (how original), and it’s in the corner, next to a Subway. Good Korean food is either bbq or hot soups, which the place does both very well. The novelty to good Korean bbq is the fact that you can cook the meat yourself at the table, if you want. Short beef ribs seems to be everyone’s favorite, but their seasoned chickens or pork are also very popular.

Fellini's!
I love that place so much. I often say that if/when I leave the city of Atlanta, I will miss the following, in no particular order:
Atlanta Braves baseball
Willy’s (local mexican restaurant chain)
Fellini’s Pizza

Wish you guys could've had
Fellini’s when it was just opened – one teeny location in L5P. Not that it’s changed that much, but man that was great pizza.

We have a place called
Formaggio’s which has great calzones and late night drunken italian food. FYI…
Also Dreamland BBQ for ribs, Full Moon for pulled pork, Purple Onion for Mediterranean and Carabba’s for Italian.

It is originally from Tuscaloosa, AL (Univ. Alabama), but we have one here. Really good ribs. And banana pudding to die for.

I’ve turned the discussion to hamburgers. For some reason, Atlanta has a Fatburger, in Buckhead. I tried their triple-king burger (1.5 lbs) once, and somehow managed to eat it. I swear, I’m not really like 350 lbs. or anything.

No
The AL will win. I smell controversy. A-Rod’s going to get a very, very tiny strike-zone, and force like Edinson Volquez to throw a perfect strike, and a go-ahead homer will be inevitable.
