What are you playing/watching/reading?
So I have been wondering about this for a while. I mean I know we keep things pretty strict to baseball around here but I think once or twice a month from now on I'm going to try and throw one of these out here just to get a feel for what kind of wonderful people I am associating with. :-) So basically I just want to know what book you are currently reading, what show or movie you have recently watched and, if you are a gamer, what game you have been trudging through. Any questions? Here's mine:
Playing: Culdcept Saga (XBOX 360)
Watching: Just purchased the new "Futurama" movie and the first season of "Battlestar Galatctica"
Reading: "A Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy"

Great Idea
Nothing wrong with getting to know the people behind the avatars/handles. I’m curious to what people are like when not taking time to justify admonishing fellow baseball fans on the internet.
Playing: Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift (Nintendo DS)
Watching: American Gladiators, Dexter, The Riche$
Reading: All the Beautiful Sinners, Stephen Graham Jones
Yes, I am a huge nerd, but I will never ever deny it when someone calls me it.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.
I watch alot of G4 TV...
...and I just saw a review on FFTA2. Looks…interesting. Just finished season 2 of Dexter myself. Very good.

Start from the beginning
And it helps to appreciate the cast, and have a liking for Eddie Izzard in the first place.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.
Fair enough
Playing: Madden ‘08 (getting ready for the new release)
Watching: Intervention on A & E (it can be kind of depressing, but the drunks are usually somewhat funny)
Reading: Are You There Vodka? It’s Me, Chelsea (It’s Chelsea Handler’s book…I know, she is actually kind of funny though)
"You never know what I'm going to do..."
- Michael Vick (Palm Beach Post 11/6/2005)
My ex had me watch Chelsea Handler’s show, and I must admit I found it pretty funny.

Nice
Playing: Not
Watching: Seinfeld DVD sets, but only when I go to bed at night. I’ve been watching the “Inside Looks” segments and the blooper reels. Great stuff. I actually have the Season 3 DVD case autographed by Braves pitching coach Roger McDowell – he was in the episode “The Boyfriend” with Keith Hernandez. Roger signed it “To Chip, from Roger McDowell, The Second Spitter”, which I think is very cool!
Reading: A Series of Unfortunate Events Book 5: The Austere Academy (I teach 5th grade, so I try to read what the kids read so I can recommend books honestly. I’m enjoying this particular set – I’ve read 3 of them so far this month)
We are likely all a bit nerdy...
...I’m definitely no exception.
Playing: Diablo & Diablo II (Diablo III just announced!)
Watching: Simpsons Season 7, Braves baseball (duh)
Reading: Anna Karenina
"Have you ever had your heart broken?"
"Yeah, when we lost the pennant in '87."
+1
I just downloaded Diablo 2 on my laptop Wednesday night. Haven’t fired it up yet, but my roomate is already knee deep in corpses. Diablo 3 looks awesome.
I never played it myself…got on the Blizzard bandwagon for Warcraft and only recently got off. World of Warcraft just got to be too much.

Did WoW for a little while, but you said it, it got to be too much. I kind of got bored trying to level up my character beyond like 20 and gave up after my subscription ran out.
Diablo 2 is a great game, that despite being 10 years old, is still pretty fun. Are you familiar with hamachi? Perhaps we could try and get a game going some time?
"Have you ever had your heart broken?"
"Yeah, when we lost the pennant in '87."
The last Warcraft I played
was Warcraft 2, and I loved it – it was a terrible addiction for me. Lots of late, late nights. I wanted to get the next, but with kids, I knew I’d never have the time. I look at the boxes in Target now and then and wish….
Yeah, I actually was able to get my guy to level 70 after quitting and coming back later twice. But I think this time I’m done for good. Lots of fun times though.

Haha...forgot to finish my thought...
...as I said I’m pretty green when it comes to Diablo 2. After I get it all set up though we should try some battle.net action or something.

Just sent an email
to my braves account and we can go for it. I don’t even mind starting a new character if you don’t have any.
"Have you ever had your heart broken?"

Great idea.
Playing: Just finished BioShock, Grand Theft Auto 4, and Mass Effect. Half Life 2 looks to be next.
Watching: There’s a show called Three Sheets which is about drinking all over the world…it’s awesome. Don’t really have any appointment TV at the time. Baseball, of course
Reading: The Fountainhead…almost done.

what channel is Three Sheets on?

No clue what service you have, but it’s on this channel called Mojo that I get. It’s wierd because it’s the same channel that plays the Orioles HD games.

Sounds like Fun
Reading: “Red Rabbit”, Tom Clancy. The Jack Ryan prequel novel.
Watching: Most of my favorite shows are over for the summer, but I still enjoy “Deadliest Catch” and “Ice Road Truckers”
Playing: Not a whole lot, but when I get the urge, Guitar Hero II or NCAA Baseball 2006 (yeah, old I know. I don’t invest a whole lot in video games.)
NCAA Baseball '06
I still play it too!
"Have you ever had your heart broken?"

Love Guitar Hero.

Reading: I’m currently writing a Thesis Paper on the Law and Economics school of thought, so I’m reading Robert Coase’s “The Problem of Social Cost”... +1 for anyone who knows what I’m talking about
Watching: Scrubs or whatever is on Sportcenter
"We win today, that's two in a row... if we win tomorrow, that's called a winning streak. It has happened before..."
Loved Scrubs....
....through season 4, then I just lost interest. Still, seasons 1-4 are the some of the best tv ever made (my opinion, obviously….)
u share the sentiments of my roommate, but I think the entire litany of scrubs is great
"We win today, that's two in a row... if we win tomorrow, that's called a winning streak. It has happened before..."
Scrubs is my favorite show evar. No show has so much fan service on this side of the ocean. The Office is excellent as well.
Okay, tv....
These are the series I either have or am working on:
Seinfeld
Scrubs
The Office
Arrested Development
Everybody Loves Raymond
Firefly (and of course, Serenity)
It took me so long to get into AD, but I’m glad I finally did. Still have 2 episodes left of season 3.

I've tried...
I watched season 5, and it just didn’t hook me. Disc 3 where Dr. Cox is having his breakdown is great, but that was it for me. I own season 6, and we’ve watched maybe 2 episodes of it….one day I’m sure I’ll check it out, just not ready yet.
Mr Musical is by far the greatest episode ever (half way through season 6), in the history of
Scrubs…
the final episode of season 6 is pretty good.. quite the cliffhanger
and if we continue this i can easily turn this blog into a Scrubs blog
"We win today, that's two in a row... if we win tomorrow, that's called a winning streak. It has happened before..."
I’m down with it. Mr. Musical is excellent. I’m a big fan of the series of episodes where Brendan Frasier’s character dies. It is rare to see the human side of Cox.
Yes!
I was a dummy and didn’t get it until the end that he was dead – I had to watch it again to realize nobody was reacting to him. Man, I got chills…..that was some GREAT tv!
Was that the episode where they play “how to save a life” at the end? because i was extremely close to squirting a tear at that one.

+1 for Scrubs.

haha awesome thread
Reading: anything Michael Connolly
Watching: Metalocalypse, first season (CHECK IT!!!!)
Playing: nothing. Grow up you beta males. hahaha.
I watched the first season of Metalocalypse recently – it’s such a trainwreck, and it provides visuals of all the twisted demented things in the world we’d like to do to others at some points in our lives.
At least, it did for me. . .
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.
PLAYING: WiiFit as usual, if you can consider that “playing”...just grabbed a DS and Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, and a few random MegaMan games…gonna try to hunt down New Super Mario Bros tomorrow.
READING: Puzzle books. I’ve bought like 6 over the past 2 weeks
WATCHING: Just got a couple PRIDE Bushido DVDs that should keep me entertained over the weekend, as well as the DVD for UFC 82 (I WAS THERE!!!). Right now, before the game, I’m watching INSIDE. Its starting off pretty slow, so yeah. I desperately need to go on a CHEESY HORROR BINGE.
ALSO. I’m obsessed with Gordon Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares on the BBC, and I watch Deadliest Catch about 10 times a week. Desperately waiting for August so the DVDs of this last season can start dropping so I can justify the need to buy a new DVD rack.
And I’m REALLY REALLY REALLY eagerly anticipating the release of NCAA Football 09 on Tuesday. NORTHWESTERN REPRESENT!!!
You are also
watching…data…no?
"Have you ever had your heart broken?"
"Yeah, when we lost the pennant in '87."
Gordon Ramsey is probably my favorite TV personality right now…just finished with Hell’s Kitchen (Petrozza got screwed!) and I always check BBC America to see if Kitchen Nightmares is on. Looking forward to the new season of the US version this fall.
Also just bought the Hell’s Kitchen game for PC from Big Fish games. It includes recipies which is very cool. I’m going to make the beef Wellington.
For the cost, it’s a pretty good game. His vocabulary is kind of limited, but authentic. (For example, I have been called a “donkey” and been told to “shut it down!” more than once.) Cracks me up every time. And it’s reasonably challenging too in the upper levels. Personally, I think it’s worth the cost just for the recipies. There’s a handy “print” button on each one, which is nice.
Thanks for asking...
Playing: I do crazy, wild stuff like the LA & NY Times crossword puzzles
Watching: Family Jewels, No Reservations, Independent Lens, NOVA, Globe Trekker, TWIB, Ace of Cakes, RHOC, Top Chef; used to watch Hell’s Kitchen but the contestants got so lame…hoping to have BBC when the dish gets installed so I can see The F word…
Reading: Living on the Black (some guy on some blog told me it was good ;P); just finished Built to WIn (Schuerholz) and Tales from the Mound (Mazzone)
Both were pretty good; as in they read like their personalities. Schuerholz’s was a mix of his experiences in KC and Atlanta, and I didn’t think there were any huge surprises, just some minor, “oh, wow” insight moments. Things we all saw and heard (Rocker fiasco, Raffy’s DUI), but he gives some finer details. He only touches on the steroid subject briefly…talks about confronting a player but doesn’t reveal his name – I thought he was referencing Ken Caminiti until the player says something about his skinny arms…I waited on Caminiti at lunch one time and the man had Popeye arms, well, mostly the massive right one.
But yeah, “almost had Barry Bonds” and some idiot named Rush Limbaugh was a grunt for KC early on were about the biggest surprises. But still a good read.
Leo’s book was shorter, with quick chapters and funny stories.
I got a copy
For being a season ticket holder. It’s pretty interesting, gives his insight on the Glavine situation, the financial finagling behind the Hudson contract, and other interesting moments. Like most Braves-topical books, it brings back a lot of good memories of our more winning days.
I also got goosebumps reading Tony LaRussa’s 3 Nights in August, just from a few paragraphs explaining his Cardinals, and how they were in a good position, but then Furcal turned the unassisted triple-play to ruin his evening.
FYI, LaRussa’s favorite Atlanta restaurant is the Marquis Steakhouse in the ScumTrust tower in downtown Atlanta. Ironic, considering LaRussa is a vegetarian. I guess they serve a bitchin’ salad.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.
Marquis Steakhouse
is/was (I think they’ve since closed it) across Baker Street from Pacific Rim, the restaurant I worked at from 99-02 – in yet another Scumtrust building downtown. That is interesting he would pick a steakhouse as his fav, especially with all the vegetarian-friendly choices in restaurants around that area!
One of the things I hate about getting older is forgetting things, like the Glavine & Hudson deals you mentioned…I found those interesting, too. Glad you pointed that out!
Just added LaRussa’s book to my library list.
It's gone now
Thanks to the renovations they’ve been doing a lot of in both the ScumTrust tower, and the Marriott hotel across the street. But they are a proprietor of “fine dining” as they like to portray themselves, and LaRussa’s admission to dining there gave me a theory that visiting baseball teams stay at the Atlanta Downtown Hyatt or Marriott Grand Marquis.
LaRussa’s book is good, and you don’t really have to be a Cards fan to enjoy it – just love baseball for more than just stats, because we all know LaRussa doesn’t play that way. He tinkers, experiments, and goes with his gut far often than not, and it’s proof the way he handles an ailing Pujols, and still gets good things out of him. There is also a lot of Pujols praise that would make the reader feel like they were a member of this blog. . .
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.
I’ve watched The F Word a couple times but I can’t really get into it for some reason. It’s like Ramsey is toned waaaay down on that show.
Actually I haven’t, I would love to though. What’s it called? I’ll see if I can get my hands on a copy.
I think
the one I read was either In the Heat of the Kitchen or A Chef for All Seasons, but I see he has a few more now…Playing with Fire, Humble Pie… I like the guy but seriously, how many auto- and biographies do you need in the space of a few years?!
I heart crossword puzzles
It’s pretty much all I do on airplanes, and while sitting in meetings. Seriously, I have a notepad, that I take printouts of NY Time crossword puzzles, and tape them to the inside sheets, so it looks like I’m taking occasional notes, when I’m actually filling in answers.
And I hope some blog guy gave you good advice with Living on the Black . . .
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.
Oh you're a clever one indeed
I like the Wall Street Journal’s too, but don’t get it anymore. Free subscription ran out.
Yeah, that blog guy’s filling up my library wish list pretty fast!
It’s a good thing :)
Never really tried the Wall Street Journal's...
I tend to do more NY Times or USA Today. This old guy on a plane once told me that the trick to doing crossword puzzles on a regular basis is to get to know the people writing them; once you do a couple of them, they tend to fall into patterns, and become easier as you go along.
Man, this blog guy sounds like a real bookwormy nerd. I at least hope he gives out good recommendations.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.
OK, I'll play too
Playing…Lord of the Rings Online. Best MMORPG ever made. True story.
Watching…A lot of SciFi channel reruns. I have a lot of days off in the summer, so I sit on the couch playing LOTRO on my laptop and watching whatever series SciFi runs that day, Stargate, X-Files, Outer Limits, Twilight Zone, ect. Last week I spent 2 days watching the Firefly DVDs and then Serenity.
Reading…Tyrannosaur Canyon by Douglas Preston. I love his stuff, both his solo books and the ones he’s written with Lincoln Child.
Preston/Child
Good stuff there, I like their work also. “Tyrannosaur Canyon” is on my shelf. Have you read “The Ice Limit”? I especially liked that one. Also “Riptide”
I thought about trying out the LOTR MMORPG but I had invested too much time in WoW. And now I’m telling myself not to go back to it.

What server? I have a lifetime membership to LOTRO. My friends and I are on landroval though i won’t be able to play again until August when all my stuff gets moved to WV.
Have you read the stuff about the new legendary weapons? MMMM
I'm on Meneldor
I’m a member of the unofficial Allakhazam.com kin, There is No Fifth Star.
I just finished Book 13 on my main(Elven hunter…I know, not very original), waiting on the Book 14 release and absolutely drooling over the info being released about Mines of Moria. Just rolled up a Man Guardian last week to play around with and have really been having fun with him. Got him to level 21 watching the Braves flail helplessly against Peavy tonight.
I loved both Riptide and Ice Limit. The only Preston/child books I haven’t read yet are Thunderhead, which is on my shelf, and the last couple they wrote about Agent Pendergast. I like their “stand-alone” books best. I’m the same way with X-Files episodes. I always liked the “monster-of-the-week” episodes best.
Playing = fantasy baseball. Does that count? That’s about the extent of my “gaming.”
Watching = Law and Order reruns, MLB Extra Innings (love it), and I’m in the Deadliest Catch club, along with a lot of other Discovery Channel shows.
Reading = mostly law school books, maybe some theology books too, but otherwise mindless, shallow reading, like John Grisham books.
This is what I'm doing
Playing: nothing much right now, replaying Mass Effect on the 360. When the wife is in the mood, we play Wii sports together.
Watching: Bleach online in english. It’s starting to grow on me. I’m all caught up on Naruto, and I prefer the japanese voices better.
I also love all the home improvement shows on TLC and HGTV. I’ve been getting into Planet Green as well. And of course ESPN – love PTI.
Reading: Not much. Elements of Style, have to stay fresh on my writing skills. Also, reading Naruto manga. I’m in need of a good book. I’ll take a look at what other people are reading and pick something out that sounds good.
I’m glad I found talkingchop.com a week ago. I have been trying to find a way to keep up my the Braves minor league system. What a great site!
I actually tried to go see Heyward play a few weeks ago and they sat him out of the game. I drove 2 hours for no reason. I was really pissed off, but I did catch a foul ball!
Just finished Mass Effect the other day…playing through it again real quick to pick up a couple of achievements I missed. Good stuff, can’t wait for the 2nd one.
I guess I should be one to talk.
There's nights that I can't even walk.
There's days I couldn't give a fuck.
And in between is where I'm stuck.

watching: Veronica Mars, yah yah it’s amusing
playing: GTA 4 (360)
reading: Confessions of an economic hitman 2 & the new Anita Blake vampire hunter novel by Laurell Hamilton
picks
Not too big on the video games, but have played my fair share of Rockband lately.
Nothing much on tv in the summer, either. America’s Best Dance Crew is mildly addicting. In theaters, Hellboy II was pretty fantastic, and I’m jacked for Dark Knight this weekend.
Reading Disneywar by James Stewart, and just started on the Sandman comic series, which is phenomenal.
Hmmm...
Playing: Seen It Sports (My kid loves the game)
Watching: Deadliest Catch
Reading: “Living On The Black” – Great book about Glavine and Mussina.
