Braves @ Jays: Canadian Rubber Game

Atlanta @ Toronto

Blame_canada_1_medium

Our three day run of making fun of Canada with clichéd and oft-repeated slogans comes to an end today. You may insert your very own mockery of our northern neighbor in this here game thread.

Let's hope that A.J. Burnett continues to forget how to be a big game pitcher.

Next Game

DVR'd the game, and watched last night...

The bases-loaded failure in the 6th was vomit-inducing. Acosta vomiting up a 1-run deficit was vomit-inducing. The 2006 Tim Hudson losing yet another interleague game was vomit-inducing. Losing a game, that never once felt unwinnable was vomit-inducing. Ironically, I didn’t drink a thing last night, but I sure wish I did. Thankfully, I DVR’d the game, and could fast forward all the parts where the game, well sucked. Worst 20 minutes ever.

Oh well. Burnett is good, therefore we shall destroy him. Will have to watch a DVR again later. When the game is over, somebody please let me know what the Francoeur LOB total is from yesterday and today’s games, so that I can update this:

No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.

These days, i feel like defending Francoeur is a lost cause.

There is simply nothing to defend. He has been horrible, I think we all hope for a glorious comeback and maybe even a realization of potential.

There's plenty to defend.

People have bad seasons. Dale freakin’ Murphy had bad seasons. During Dale’s full season, he batted .226. Good thing the Braves front office didn’t listen to people like you back in the day. Oh, and good thing they won’t listen to people like you now.

NEVERMIND

Did some more research. Those stats are off. I am too tired to defend Frenchy, so bash him all you want.

DALE MURPHY

DURING HIS THIRD FULL SEASON IN THE MAJORS (SO EXACTLY WHERE FRENCHY IS TODAY), HE BATTED .226. MOREOVER, HIS AVERAGE THROUGH THREE SEASONS WAS .268. FRENCHY’S AVERAGE THROUGH THREE SEASONS (COUNTING THE LAST HALF OF 2005 AND THE FIRST HALF OF THIS YEAR AS ONE YEAR) IS .273. CHECK THE NUMBERS. THEY DON’T LIE.

BRAVOS FAN/THE BRAVES FRONT OFFICE DIDN’T GIVE UP ON DALE. WE SHOULDN’T GIVE UP ON FRENCHY!

Okay, I got that out of my system. Sorry, it’s just frustrating to see everyone hate on Frenchy like he’s the worst player to ever put on the Red and Blue. Give him a chance people. He’s 24 years old. Cheeeeeeeeeeeeese…

I did some more research. Those stats are off. Frenchy does suck at life RIGHT NOW. I hope he starts doing some things though.

I see you double-checked,

but I was already typing so I went ahead and finished.

by jug on Jun 29, 2008 1:52 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I see your point, but you need to re-check the stats.

It was Dale’s first full season (1978) in which he batted .226, and he was 22 years old. He only had 141 ABs combined in 1976 and 1977. This is Frenchy’s fourth complete year (had 257 ABs in 2005) and he’s 24.

I see that you did check the stats, but your point is not too far off. I don’t think there is any way to defend how Francoeur is playing right now, but everyone is frustrated because we all know he’s better than this. I can only speak for myself, but I’ve not given up on him. I just think he’s not helping us right now and he’s got to figure something out to get better.

Murphy also hit 23 HRs in 1978 along with 79 RBIs. But, surprisingly they so far have similar numbers with RISP…

Murphy ‘78 .212 / .277 / .336 OPS = .613
Frenchy ‘08 .213 / .276 / .340 OPS = .617

Of course, FYF has 1409 ABs more than Dale Murphy did at the start of 1978, so I think the comparison fails at that point.

Back in the day...

we used to call certain types of hitters ‘slider speed’ hitters. That implied that they couldn’t catch up to a quality fastball…unless they were guessing…and the same condition applies for recognizing off speed pitches. His bat speed is and has been ‘plus’...his pitch recognition during this slump is definitely ‘sub-minus’

by OntheGo on Jun 29, 2008 1:46 PM EDT   0 recs

Sorry...

that applied to FYF

FYF

Using Campillo’s bat.

Hey Frenchy, the hardware isn’t the problem. You could swing an oar and still not hit the pitches you are swinging at.

terry pendleton

First let me say that the player is always the first to blame when it comes to his production. But i just starting to wonder if terry pendleton is helping or hurting braves hitters. First we saw Andruw Jones spread his stance out and hit 50 homeruns and then the bottom fell last year. Now jeff franceour is always talking about something new he is trying to do, like hit for a better average or hit the other way, and it just makes me wonder what the hell is terry pendleton doing to these guys. it could be just one of those slumps in a career that happens guys.

by stevengregory on Jun 29, 2008 2:31 PM EDT   0 recs
