Braves @ Jays: Canadian Rubber Game
Atlanta Braves at Toronto Blue Jays, Jun 29, 2008 1:07 PM EDT
Our three day run of making fun of Canada with clichéd and oft-repeated slogans comes to an end today. You may insert your very own mockery of our northern neighbor in this here game thread.
Let's hope that A.J. Burnett continues to forget how to be a big game pitcher.

Just not Frenchy?

DVR'd the game, and watched last night...
The bases-loaded failure in the 6th was vomit-inducing. Acosta vomiting up a 1-run deficit was vomit-inducing. The 2006 Tim Hudson losing yet another interleague game was vomit-inducing. Losing a game, that never once felt unwinnable was vomit-inducing. Ironically, I didn’t drink a thing last night, but I sure wish I did. Thankfully, I DVR’d the game, and could fast forward all the parts where the game, well sucked. Worst 20 minutes ever.
Oh well. Burnett is good, therefore we shall destroy him. Will have to watch a DVR again later. When the game is over, somebody please let me know what the Francoeur LOB total is from yesterday and today’s games, so that I can update this:

No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.
just a guess...
but it will be around 3.65×10^23
"Have you ever had your heart broken?"
"Yeah, when we lost the pennant in '87."
These days, i feel like defending Francoeur is a lost cause.
There is simply nothing to defend. He has been horrible, I think we all hope for a glorious comeback and maybe even a realization of potential.

There's plenty to defend.
People have bad seasons. Dale freakin’ Murphy had bad seasons. During Dale’s full season, he batted .226. Good thing the Braves front office didn’t listen to people like you back in the day. Oh, and good thing they won’t listen to people like you now.

sorry, his Dale's third full season

I'm not your buddy, friend.
"Have you ever had your heart broken?"
"Yeah, when we lost the pennant in '87."
Anybody out there?
Or am I going to have to endure Frenchy’s ABs alone?
"Have you ever had your heart broken?"
"Yeah, when we lost the pennant in '87."
DALE MURPHY
DURING HIS THIRD FULL SEASON IN THE MAJORS (SO EXACTLY WHERE FRENCHY IS TODAY), HE BATTED .226. MOREOVER, HIS AVERAGE THROUGH THREE SEASONS WAS .268. FRENCHY’S AVERAGE THROUGH THREE SEASONS (COUNTING THE LAST HALF OF 2005 AND THE FIRST HALF OF THIS YEAR AS ONE YEAR) IS .273. CHECK THE NUMBERS. THEY DON’T LIE.
BRAVOS FAN/THE BRAVES FRONT OFFICE DIDN’T GIVE UP ON DALE. WE SHOULDN’T GIVE UP ON FRENCHY!
Okay, I got that out of my system. Sorry, it’s just frustrating to see everyone hate on Frenchy like he’s the worst player to ever put on the Red and Blue. Give him a chance people. He’s 24 years old. Cheeeeeeeeeeeeese…

Nevermind
I did some more research. Those stats are off. Frenchy does suck at life RIGHT NOW. I hope he starts doing some things though.

I see you double-checked,
but I was already typing so I went ahead and finished.
"Have you ever had your heart broken?"
"Yeah, when we lost the pennant in '87."
I see your point, but you need to re-check the stats.
It was Dale’s first full season (1978) in which he batted .226, and he was 22 years old. He only had 141 ABs combined in 1976 and 1977. This is Frenchy’s fourth complete year (had 257 ABs in 2005) and he’s 24.
I see that you did check the stats, but your point is not too far off. I don’t think there is any way to defend how Francoeur is playing right now, but everyone is frustrated because we all know he’s better than this. I can only speak for myself, but I’ve not given up on him. I just think he’s not helping us right now and he’s got to figure something out to get better.
Murphy also hit 23 HRs in 1978 along with 79 RBIs. But, surprisingly they so far have similar numbers with RISP…
Murphy ‘78 .212 / .277 / .336 OPS = .613
Frenchy ‘08 .213 / .276 / .340 OPS = .617
Of course, FYF has 1409 ABs more than Dale Murphy did at the start of 1978, so I think the comparison fails at that point.
"Have you ever had your heart broken?"
"Yeah, when we lost the pennant in '87."
Back in the day...
we used to call certain types of hitters ‘slider speed’ hitters. That implied that they couldn’t catch up to a quality fastball…unless they were guessing…and the same condition applies for recognizing off speed pitches. His bat speed is and has been ‘plus’...his pitch recognition during this slump is definitely ‘sub-minus’
hello.....
and most likely goodbye shortly….
i cant handle these losses. I swear, if the Phils werent horrible, i’d be even more depressed
its still 0-0 today!
"Have you ever had your heart broken?"
"Yeah, when we lost the pennant in '87."
FYF
Using Campillo’s bat.
Hey Frenchy, the hardware isn’t the problem. You could swing an oar and still not hit the pitches you are swinging at.
"Have you ever had your heart broken?"
"Yeah, when we lost the pennant in '87."
b jones
2 Ks on 7 pitches, i think his hot start has officially come to an end
as a whole
we look a little lost up there at the plate.
"Have you ever had your heart broken?"
"Yeah, when we lost the pennant in '87."
Jo Jo
pitching well.
could we get some run support guys?
"Have you ever had your heart broken?"
"Yeah, when we lost the pennant in '87."
2 leadoff doubles and still putting up zeros
i was wondering how hed bounce back from that milwaukee start, hes showing me something today…too bad our offense is completely inept
perhaps
we’ve been able to get lead-off runners on, just not around.
"Have you ever had your heart broken?"
"Yeah, when we lost the pennant in '87."
terry pendleton
First let me say that the player is always the first to blame when it comes to his production. But i just starting to wonder if terry pendleton is helping or hurting braves hitters. First we saw Andruw Jones spread his stance out and hit 50 homeruns and then the bottom fell last year. Now jeff franceour is always talking about something new he is trying to do, like hit for a better average or hit the other way, and it just makes me wonder what the hell is terry pendleton doing to these guys. it could be just one of those slumps in a career that happens guys.
whew
thought they might get the lead runner on that one.
"Have you ever had your heart broken?"
"Yeah, when we lost the pennant in '87."
I could not imagine
playing sick like KJ is today. must be hell. But, he has no choice.
"Have you ever had your heart broken?"
"Yeah, when we lost the pennant in '87."
8 Ks for Burnett
g’job guys.
"Have you ever had your heart broken?"
"Yeah, when we lost the pennant in '87."
Not saying it wasn't
He’s had some good pitches working today. Just, well, I’d expect us to manufacture a few runs…
"Have you ever had your heart broken?"
"Yeah, when we lost the pennant in '87."
The freakin' horns
are annoying. I don’t even understand the purpose.
"Have you ever had your heart broken?"
"Yeah, when we lost the pennant in '87."
haven't noticed
but I haven’t watched many games in the last week.
"Have you ever had your heart broken?"
"Yeah, when we lost the pennant in '87."
anyone else
wanna backhand burnett across the face after that AB?
If I am ever at the Ted
and somebody is blowing them, I don’t care if its an 8 year old kid, I’m stomping it into oblivion.
let that be a warning.
"Have you ever had your heart broken?"
"Yeah, when we lost the pennant in '87."
another fine job jeff
"Have you ever had your heart broken?"
"Yeah, when we lost the pennant in '87."
norton scared the shit out of me
a good throw gets him
checking in from montreal, reeking of alcohol, weed, tobacco, and after tonight, hookers…
i nominate that he is now known as THE TERRIBLY STRUGGING JEFF FRANCOUER. i know thats what i’m gonna be calling him from now on
tsjf
just doesn’t have the same ring as FYF
"Have you ever had your heart broken?"
"Yeah, when we lost the pennant in '87."
should have let that wild pitch hit him.
"Have you ever had your heart broken?"
"Yeah, when we lost the pennant in '87."
geez
let’s go 10 yr old lillibridge
"Have you ever had your heart broken?"
"Yeah, when we lost the pennant in '87."
geez
im amazed lillibridge hung in as long as he did, he looked completely overmatched
he looks like a HS kid
"Have you ever had your heart broken?"
"Yeah, when we lost the pennant in '87."
this sucks
Jo-Jo is getting tired. I am afraid that yet again we’ll get a good pitching performance wasted by shitty offense.
"Have you ever had your heart broken?"
"Yeah, when we lost the pennant in '87."
no, but he also isn't killing us IMO.
"Have you ever had your heart broken?"
"Yeah, when we lost the pennant in '87."
whew
that made me kinda nervous at first
"Have you ever had your heart broken?"
"Yeah, when we lost the pennant in '87."
man
I can’t stand Eckstein at the plate.
"Have you ever had your heart broken?"
"Yeah, when we lost the pennant in '87."
this games been going on for about 2 hours now
you think someone could tell the blue jays announcers its pronounced go-TIE
no idea who that is.
"Have you ever had your heart broken?"
"Yeah, when we lost the pennant in '87."
yay
another runner to strand.
"Have you ever had your heart broken?"
"Yeah, when we lost the pennant in '87."
teases me, yet again.
I am beginning to dry-heave.
"Have you ever had your heart broken?"
"Yeah, when we lost the pennant in '87."
I should have took a bath in boiling hot grease
than watch this.
"Have you ever had your heart broken?"
"Yeah, when we lost the pennant in '87."
or taken, if you prefer proper grammar.
"Have you ever had your heart broken?"
"Yeah, when we lost the pennant in '87."
you know
all the blame goes to the bottom of lineup for the offensive struggles, and rightfully so…they suck, but twice now weve had two runners on with arguably our second best hitter up and havent gotten anything
blame to entire offense.
Frenchy’s beard must be getting to McCann…today’s LOB total for Heap = 6. Very Frenchy-esque.
Everybody but Blanco has at least 1 LOB, Norton and Jones have 2.
Team = 8.
"Have you ever had your heart broken?"
"Yeah, when we lost the pennant in '87."
Boyer
with a nice curve and smoking fastball
"Have you ever had your heart broken?"

"Have you ever had your heart broken?"
"Yeah, when we lost the pennant in '87."
well shit.
Mac is very un-Mac like today…
"Have you ever had your heart broken?"
"Yeah, when we lost the pennant in '87."
Listen to that
chin music
"Have you ever had your heart broken?"
"Yeah, when we lost the pennant in '87."
Anybody down that that can drive in runs?
"Have you ever had your heart broken?"
"Yeah, when we lost the pennant in '87."
well, now we got BJ Ryan...
How will this turn out?
"Have you ever had your heart broken?"
"Yeah, when we lost the pennant in '87."
If FYF can do something good here
I will never call him a bad name again.
"Have you ever had your heart broken?"
"Yeah, when we lost the pennant in '87."
nevermind, you fuck.
"Have you ever had your heart broken?"
"Yeah, when we lost the pennant in '87."

"Have you ever had your heart broken?"
"Yeah, when we lost the pennant in '87."
norton, francine, jones, and lillibridge
this was over after mccanns groundout
LITTLEBOYBRIDGE
love how they recognized Brent Littlebridge with the ‘Lottery’ T.V. award for throwing out the slowest base-runner since Sid Bream. These guys are really trying hard to keep fans from booing him off the field. Atleast in Atlanta it seems. Anyway I guess theres always next year. As for this season put a fork in it already it’s past done. It’s had the shit burned plum out of it!
NEW MAJOR LEAGUE RECORD!
23 straight 1 run losses on the road. WAY 2 GO BRAVOS!
thanks for your contributions.
"Have you ever had your heart broken?"
"Yeah, when we lost the pennant in '87."
