Only one more for Huddy....
Now, granted, when Smoltzie and Glavs (and Mr. Glass) were slated to be in our rotation, I had even loftier expectations for Hudson - i thought maybe if pressure was taken off of him, he could relax and get his true ace form back. But, as the season grew, and injuries SURMOUNTED even the biggest skeptic (read: Mets fan) prediction, I've sort of slated Hudson for a nice run this year with a lot of wins and few losses - and the ever present woulda-been's, blown-by-whomever-tonight bullpen fiascos leading to the no-decisions.
So, in my head, i've had Huddy lined up to go something like 18-8, 20-6, 19-7, etc, for the season. I think that's reasonable to assume someone in his shoes should strive for at least.
But now i'm looking at those loss totals, and averaging them out (i mean, i'm not Beard, but I do think I remember how to figure an average from 3 numbers) scares me. By my calculations, Huddy better start winning and hoping for no-decisions, b/c he's on pace to have HELLA losses. I'm not bashing him, not at all, I love the guy. He gives it his all, its his life, he wants to succeed, and he's not FYF.
I guess I'm trying to start a new conversation about Huddy, to see what everyone else is thinking. B/c damn, he's the guy we all thought was the sure-fire W, the dude who you knew would bring it home. And lately, victory is being spelled J-U-R-R-J-E-N-S.
8-6...... damn......

Hmmm
This is off the top of my head, but think about how many of Huddy’s losses are attributable to the fact that he eats a lot of innings. In other words, if he were a five inning wonder like Mr. Glavine, AND if Bobby didn’t always leave him in so long, maybe he could have gotten out of some games with a little less damage. That’s just my first thought. If I am way off, someone please correct me.

i absolutley agree. and hes had a couple games, at least, that he’d give up a run or three and get no support, three runs though 7 innings or whatever is pretty good.
Wins And Losses...
Judging pitchers by their record is (or at least should be) a thing of the past. Jurjjens has pitched exceptionally well, but Hudson has been more valuable and I’d still take him to start for me over Jair.
Please check out my blog at http://thefulldeck.blogspot.com/ , now redesigned and recommited!
Huddy has a total of 13 quality starts out of his 18 total starts this season. Only two pitchers in the entire league have more than him, Dan Haren and Tim Lincecum. He’s tied with all-everything Johan Santana and underrated Jeremy Guthrie and has one more than Volquez and Webb (of course, he may be a start ahead of or behind some of these guys). All in all, he’s been an ace…the offense has let him down though:
3/30: ND, 7 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 3 K
4/5: W, 6 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 0 BB, 4 K
4/11: W, 8 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 5 K
4/21: W, 6.2 IP, 10 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K
5/2: W, CG, 3 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 10 K
5/7: W, 7 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 3 K
5/12: W, 7 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 5 K
5/22: W, 8 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 4 K
5/27: ND, 8 IP, 11 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 6 K
6/1: L, 6 IP, 7 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 3 K
6/6: ND, 7.2 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 4 BB, 3 K
6/12: ND, 6.2 IP, 7 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K
6/22: W, 7 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 4 BB, 2 K
His other five starts look like this:
4/16: L, 3 IP, 6 H, 4 ER, 1 BB, 1 K
4/26: L, 3 IP, 7 H, 4 ER, 0 BB, 1 K
5/17: L, 5 IP, 5 H, 5 ER, 5 BB, 3 K
6/17: L, 4.1 IP, 6 H, 6 ER, 2 BB, 3 K
6/28: L, 5 IP, 7 H, 6 ER, 3 BB, 3 K
So every one of his starts that was not deemed quality resulted in a loss. He got one tough luck loss, but also three NDs that certainly could have been W’s. He could easily be 12-6 right now, but quite frankly I’m surprisd he has so many decisions as it is this season. Regardless, I’d still rather see him on the mound than Jurrjens at this point.
I'm gettin' out of this town alive...even if it kills me.
