Anyone @ the Braves
Milwaukee Brewers at Atlanta Braves, Jun 25, 2008 1:10 PM EDT
It really doesn't matter who we're playing, they seem to be beating us with regularity. It was nice of Teixeira to give us some hope last night, but the errors and sloppy play did us in. Once again... we are finding new ways to lose.
All the news around this team sort of depresses me right now; it's all about injuries to all our key players. Smoltz talking about his career being over, Glavine talking about being out longer than expected, Chipper out for two or three games at a time (games we have been losing), not to mention the mystery of Rafael Soriano and the nagging injuries to the tough but mortal Yunel Escobar. Mark Kotsay is starting a rehab assignment at double-A Mississippi today and might be ready in a week, and we all know that Mike Hampton is on perma-rehab assignment and the tease that he keeps coming so close to returning is a cruel farce.
Today's game is a day game, so I'm guessing Jeff Francoeur will have a good day at the plate (and hopefully in the field too).

Wow gondeeee
Why not just say “Open-thread : Baseball game”?
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.
It's so fitting
For this team right now, to have a rally going in the 9th when up comes apparently the only living organism available on the bench in Porky Miller.
A true exclamation point on the misery of late.
Gee...
I was feeling reasonably cheerful this morning until I logged on here. Now I sort of feel like jumping off the roof, or at least the loading dock.
CHEER UP, PEOPLE!!! It could be worse, you could be a Mets fan.
Don't let it bring you down
I kinda feel the same way. But it’s not like I wasn’t expecting it after a loss. I think what bothers a lot of people is that we’re used to winning, we’re used to solid above-average output, but the cards just haven’t fallen in our favor this year, and for the time being, we’re quite mediocre, and it’s showing.
Enduring mediocrity is something that all fans endure at some point in their lives – which is why I always say that Braves fans are often spoiled by the success of the 90s, into the 00’s.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.
You know what's great?
Working at home when the Braves have an afternoon game. Not to rub it in for those stuck in an office, but regardless of what happens today, I’ll still feel pretty good.
Not that a win won’t make it 1,000x greater…
One-Up'd
Not only am I leaving work (read: doing NO work afterwards, be at office or home) at noon, I am going to the game, get my Brian McCann bobblehead, sit in the sun, and watch the Braves rip Jeff Suppan a new one, live.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.
Hey...
if you can score an extra bobblehead… like someone leaves one at their seat or something…(like that’s gonna happen, but you never know with drunk people)....maybe you could get it for a fellow cheerful person?.....
I'll try
I’ll get mine through the season ticket gate, and see if I can schmooze one off of the grand entrance gate, claim that the season ticket gate ran out or something. Worked for t-shirts once…
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.
i called in today as well
so, working from home today entailed a fat steak sandwich and post gorge bliss with Campillo
It's supposed to be 95 degrees today...
Have fun with that…

I've got a ton of work to do today...

I wouldn’t mind seeing 6 or 7 errors from Ryan Braun this inning. He’s got some catching up to do from last year.
haha…i was watching a brewers game on EI last week and he actually made some decent plays. it is LF, though…

Imagine how much worse our lineup would look...
...if we didn’t have quality bench pieces like Gotay, Infante, and Norton. We’d have Pete Orr, Ryan Langerhans, and Chris Woodward.
Those were dark days on the bench. I’m thankful for Wren’s moves.

My Picks:
1. 25,526
2. Heap
3. Chipper pinch-hits and goes yard.
Yeah, I know there are no picks, but something has got to bring us out of this funk.

I know how you feel
I didn’t get my prize either from the week I won. Not that it’s a huge deal; I don’t want to sound like a big baby.
oh, its a big deal
did you see the spike in play once the prizes were offered? It was like 30 picks to over a hundred. Thats why the system overloaded. Gondee’s avoiding us.
Same thing applies to the Frenchy haters...

then he shouldnt have been a bitch about his contract
ever since then, i’ve had a bad taste in my mouth. I mean, to do that, and come back and hit .320, 25, 100, then fine, i’ll shut up and kiss his ass myself.
But to come back and hit .242, 8, 42, and to include ALL the clutch situations he’s blown, i mean, come on, he’s getting what’s coming to him.
Act like you wouldn't do the same thing
Gotta make that money. I ain’t going to hate on him for that. It wasn’t like he took it to the media or refused to come to training camp or anything, the Bravos and him just weren’t on the same page. That kind of stuff happens all the time and the majority of players in this league, and in professional sports for that matter, don’t handle those kind of situations with as much class as he did.

lazy day lethargy kicking in
i might have to take a nap before this one’s even over…..... come on, lets make it a stress free day.
good job Boyer
he’s about on par
i’m out a here. I cant handle another loss, and i’ll be happier reading about a win later tonight.
I’m guessing nobody was posting during that half inning because of the collective holding of the breath
For the record I’m a Boyer fan, but he’s got two things working against him (that I’ve personally seen):
1. He seems to throw his fastball 90% of the time, I’d really like to see him work another pitch in there. Someone on here said he has a nice curve, but I’ve rarely seen it.
2. Bobby seems to use him all the time. That’ll catch up eventually. He’s already well over his MLB season career high, and he averaged 80 IP in the minors (although he had two years of 137 and 154)
by Smoltz's Beard on Jun 25, 2008 3:21 PM EDT up reply actions
Was it you who brought that to my attention?
I’d like to see more of it, if that is the case. I wonder if it is the catcher calling his selections, or if Boyer shakes off the off-speed cause he is not confident with it. Something to look for next time.
by Smoltz's Beard on Jun 25, 2008 3:27 PM EDT up reply actions
I think I might’ve been the one who said he had the great curve (really). He threw it a lot, and it was a nice development, but then he got tagged with it by Dan Uggla, and he hardly throws it since. When you throw as many fastballs as he does, it becomes easier to predict when a curve is potentially coming. He really needs another pitch, perhaps a slider?
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.
Those highs are probably when he was a starter. He came up as a starter, was converted to a reliever in AA in 2005, and was a starter last year in Richmond.
Good point...
...although it looks like he only spent one season as a reliever throughout (2002). Minor leauge stats.

Bobbleheads, heat, and annoyances
But like I stated earlier today, after dealing with 107F desert heat, 95 is nothing. That is, until you’re done with the game, and you just want to get back to the car, blast the AC, and get home and drinking something cold. Sitting around during the game was no big deal, since there was a breeze every now and then.
I got there, what I thought was early, but it turns out that it was also Summer Camp Day at the Ted, and that 15,000 strong had long passed through the turnstiles by the time I got there… so no B-Mac Bobblehead for me. :(
I mean really, I don’t have a lot to gripe about in life, but seeing Dads with four bobble boxes, while pushing a cart with three infants who could care less about a bobblehead or their own thumb, irks me a bit. But it’s okay, as long as the Braves win.
So I’m sitting in the shade (I moved up about 16 rows to get into it), and sitting next to me are four exiles from their summer camp groups. Clearly, they’re too cool to sit with the other nine-year-olds, so they had to distance themselves. And then came the pounding – so much for appreciation for something limited edition; all four were pounding their defenseless B-Mac bobbleheads against the seats in front of them, on the ground, against one anothers, and they were shattering like something made from a clay/plastic composite should do upon repeated impact. Behind my shades, I got very irritated…
On a scheduled bathroom break, all the kids left their seats – some of them still had intact bobbleheads, left them on the ground for safe-keeping. I eyed those with the utmost desperation as a jaded-upper-twenty-something would do, but realized how pathetic it would be for me to actually steal from children, no matter how annoying, uncivilized, and horribly-mannered they were. So I sat, and left them alone. And watched the game. Which was bothersome, since at that time, the Braves were down 0-2 after allowing what felt like a million doubles again.
But then Campillo, yes the pitcher, surged the offense not once, but twice, as he contributed to both scoring rallies that garnered him a 4-0 lead, and he pitched yet another quality start, and I was feeling good about it. Boyer couldn’t pitch a perfecto, but got out of it without any damage, which was pleasing, and unfortunately, Ryan Braun really didn’t want to see another man writhe and gyrate on the mound, because the first pitch he saw, he crushed into LF. And then Gonzalez got beat to the bag by of all people, Prince Semien Fielder, to prevent a crucial Vidro. But then he struck out the next two guys with some nasty sliders, and all was good again. Braves win, I am happy.
As I’m heading down the stairs to the exit, I can’t help but notice a particularly clean box sitting lonely by an empty seat. I approach it and pick up, and it’s got some precarious weight to it. Gasp, could it be? But yes!
I managed to get a B-Mac Bobblehead afterall!
My day was then complete. Boy was it hot, while waiting underneath the 75/85 bridge, waiting to cross the street while MARTA police hold up the do-not-cross ropes.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.
You were rewarded
by Pujols for your good behavior (not stealing from the nasty little bobble smashers) and for your good attitude.
You also - I didn't mention that part?
I got two, actually. One’s yours, however it may get to you.
I just thought I’d be cute and hold off on that part, so that you could feel disappointed, but then be all happy again when I tell you that I got one for you too. Word of advice though, watching the kids, I learned that the head part is not very secure, but I trust your adult sensibilities to not be swinging it around like a baseball bat. That being said, the heads are very loose in general, likely because it’s a bobblehead, but I did manage to come upon a second box.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.
Thank You!
You are a true gentleman. I wasn’t too disappointed, although I was irritated along with you at the wanton destruction of BMac Bobbleheads by rampaging children, but I am indeed happy to get one. We will figure out a transfer method. Thanks again.
I can mail it you, if you’re insistent on getting it sooner than later, or you can just give give me a heads up if you’re coming to another game at the Ted, and I can meet you there to give it to you, provided that I am not on another spontaneous trip.
