"...occasional lumps..."

I didnt actually think reading about the Braves tonight was going to make me feel better, but I was cracking UP at this... LOL!!!! This is classic - from the same mailbag about the Tex trade:

Manny Acosta and Blaine Boyer are still learning and that's why they're taking their occasional lumps in some pressure situations.

Oh, occasional lumps? Like, "occasionally" Acosta gets a strike? Or like FYF "occasionally" strikes out with men on?

Aren’t they both 27?? Shouldn’t they have learned a thing or two now? It’s not like they are rooks.

That's a polite way of saying...

...that Boyer really shits the bed in a jam. Acosta just sucks.

Not Acosta

Acosta is technically a rookie because he only pitched 23.2 innings last year/wasn’t on the roster for more than 45 days when the 25 player limit was in effect (see below). I think…

A player shall be considered a rookie unless, during a previous season or seasons, he has (a) exceeded 130 at-bats or 50 innings pitched in the major leagues; or (b) accumulated more than 45 days on the active roster of a major league club or clubs during the period of a 25-player limit (excluding time in the military service).

Ok, so he’s technically a rook . . . I’ll admit that. But give me a break, it’s not like he hasn’t played pro baseball for awhile now.

And he’s from Panama. You can’t tell me that he wasn’t pretending like he could throw Mariano Rivera cutters before he could walk.

No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.

Boyer and Acosta both looked solid...

They kept it close for three innings.
