Minor League Recaps: 6/17
Yeah I haven't posted lately. Big whoop, wanna fight about it?
Charlotte 6, Richmond 5 - Game 1 (7 Innings)
- J. Anderson - 1-2 2B
- C. Loadenthal - 2-2 2 SB, RBI, 2 BB
- J. Perry - 1-3 HR(4), 2 RBI
- M. Jurich - 2-2 2 2B
Loadenthal apparently got the call up while I was away doing stuff so now Richmond has two Josh Anderson's. Brian Lawrence is not very good apparently since he gave up 6 runs in less than 4 innings.
Charlotte 5, Richmond 1 - Game 2 (7 Innings)
- M. Jurich - 1-3 2B
- B. Canizares - 1-3 2B, RBI, K
- J. Parr - 3IP 6H 4R 3BB 4K
James Parr made the start in the second game, his first in AAA. At least it wasn't Dustin Evans. Honestly though Parr has a shot at being a bullpen arm in the majors. Mark Jurich had 3 doubles on the day and is hitting as well as he ever has in the minors with a .726 OPS. I mean thats not great, but it is better than just about anywhere else he has been.
Mississippi 7, Montgomery 2 (in progress)
- J. Holt - 2-2 3B, RBI, 3 BB, SB
- R. Gorecki - 2-5 2 RBI, 2 K
- K. Kaaihue 1-2 HR(7), 2 BB
Todd Redmond pitched another solid game for the AA club and the offense exploded in the 9th for 5 runs to put Montgomery away for good. Kala Kaaihue is hitting .313 for the month of June and has been the best hitter on the team since probably mid May. Jordan Schafer went 0-4 with a BB and is hitting .194. I think he just needs some playing time.
Myrtle Beach 7, Salem 5 (14 Innings)
- G. Hernandez - 4-7 HR(4), 3 RBI,K
- E. Campbell - 2-7 RBI, 2 K
- E. Mejia - 1-6 HR(12), 2 RBI, BB, 4K
An extra long game for the Pelicans who are the lone bright spot in the Braves universe these days. Ernesto Mejia didn't do much for most of the game but he hit a 2 Run homer in the top of the 14th that was the difference in the ball game. I think Gorkys Hernandez is our leadoff hitter of the future and he is going to strike fear into pitchers hearts the way guys like Furcal and Jose Reyes do.
Same deal. Both teams scored in the 11th inning.
Rome - Sally League All Star Game!!!
- J. Heyward - 2-3 HR
- F. Freeman - 1-1 RBI
Heyward and Freeman were the only Rome players that appeared in the game but they both made an impact with a couple of RBI.

I agree
that Gorkys is our leadoff hitter of the future. I think he can be similar to Carl Crawford. I have said that before the season started. He may not be as good as Crawford but he might be close to being as good as him.
By late July or early August we could see Gorkys in AA, playing LF or RF right by Schafer. And Heyward will definately get a call up to high A before too long.

What has happened
to Gorkys stealing bases though? I like the increase in power numbers and all but he has only 6 stolen bases on the year.

the injury her had was a pulled hamstring he hasn’t has but one or two stolen bases since he came off the DL. I would imagine they are protecting that.

good for heyward
2-3 in the all-star game with a homer, he is going to be good

Danville
Last night was also the start of Danville’s season. They won 5-3.
Notable Hitters:
L.V. Ware – 1-3, 3B, BB(We drafted him in 06 initially he didn’t sign until last year.)
G. Rodriguez – 2-4, HR(FA pick up from the Yankees)
C. Shehan – 0-3, BB, K
J. Gilmore – 0-3, BB, K
Notable Pitchers:
R. Delgado – 3.1 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 5 K(He pitched very well in the DSL last season. Has a mid 90’s FB, good Change, a decent Slider and a Curve in-progress. I think he’s related to DiMaster Delgado who pitched even better in the DSL last year and will be pitching in the GCL this year.)
