Braves @ Halos: Final Game
Atlanta Braves at Los Angeles Angels, Jun 15, 2008 8:05 PM EDT
Dare I say the word sweep in reference to the Braves and mean that we will not be the ones on the receiving end of that sweep... and we're on the road! If Jorge Campillo can somehow manage to pitch us into a win then we will have accomplished the unthinkable... but let's not count our chickens before they hatch.

Just checking in...
I made it back from Myrtle Beach. I was fortunate enough to get to go to 6 games while I was there, so I’ve got a ton of pictures, a couple of stories and observations – hopefully I can get things sorted out in the next few days. Quick highlights:
1. Gorkys Hernandez is an impressive player. He didn’t hit much while I was there, but he can play outfield. Man oh man.
2. Ditto about Tyler Flowers, but not in the outfield. He got himself a few hits, and several walks.
3. Roger Clemens was in the house watching his son Koby play for Salem. Yes, I got an autograph. Whee!
4. Frank Wren was there as well. I was going to give him some advice on Braves moves and whatnot, but I chose not to. I figure I’ll give him a chance to prove himself. If he fails, I’m ready.
When I can get going on pictures, I’ll post a few.
welcome back.
a great trip! excited to see/hear more about it!
...also, your wife let you go to 6 games while you were on vacation?
Go on, ask if anything surprises me.
does ESPN realize chipper’s quad has been torn since april?
AND THUMBSY WITH A HIT! here we go larry here we go clap clap
I'm sure...
they are the world-wide leader! they just want us to think they are incompetent….

i’m so confused as to what joe morgan is talking about with this “hitting the ball hard” shit. is there a peachtree feed anywhere?
chone
has been in the lineup a while now. quit acting like that is earth-shattering news.

“he’s got a very good earned run average…”
thats it? no mention of the fact his WHIP is a shade over 1? really?
keep
laying the bat back Jeff…does that mean you can only see 1 pitch this AB?
Go on, ask if anything surprises me.
more like 11 times out of 20.
WHAT THE FUCK WAS HE BABBLING ABOUT??!? AA doesn’t have a thread up for the game, so i can’t get a clip of it from there, but JESUS CHRIST I”M CONFUSED!!!! STILL!
I think you’re thinking of sddbaker…but she’ s away/has intermittent access…
Don’t get me wrong, glad Larry’s doing well, but not necessarily high on my list of favs!
Holy crap
that looked like a disaster waiting to happen, and someone on the DL.

Um, not really.
TB is not a contender, IMO. They will not stay around long enough. I would not leave unless it was to get a ring.

why are they talking about griffey? did we suddenly trade the corpses of chris resop, mike hampton & mark kotsay for him?
Next by Jor Morgan:
“So, when the sun comes up, it seems like it gets lighter, but really its not, because in reailty, it’s only getting less dark.”
i think they’ve talked about chipper hitting .400 for 40 or the 45 minuts this game has been on the air.
oh god
here comes the replay talk. can’t wait to hear joe’s opinion.

that was stupid as shit
barehand the ball with your pitching hand.

That'd be cool
I’ve often wondered if any “famous” people, especially those associated with the Braves, read this site.
question
Does anybody know if they sell the licensed phiten necklaces with the logo on them? if not, why not? I know its dumb, but I would like one, even thought I know its crap. Just want one for fandom.

braves fast
i was on a braves fast for two days. It seems like they only win the games i dont watch. I should sacrifice my watching for their seasons.
I'm telling you.
Frenchy switched helmets.
Andruw Jones hit 50 HRs wearing the old style helmet (sans vents). Once he switched to the vented he sucked. Same with Francoeur. Can anybody fill him in?

rev still looks good.
he is pitching well. Too bad about the HR. We HAVE to give him run support!

Interesting stat...
on Escobar.
When leading off an inning he is hitting .324 with an OBP of .377
In the first inning (this includes games that he did not bat leadoff), he has a Avg of .373, OBP of .403

The quirky thing about it though, is that his batting avg while batting in the leadoff spot (not just innings in which he leads off) is only .268 as a whole.

Well, we won a series on the road against one of the best teams in the AL
Gotta focus on the positives.
I've not given up
on late game heroics!
but, here’s the thing. I thought both Friday and today, but yesterday especially, they looked like a different club. Refreshed, even. A little more relaxed, but also a sense of urgency in that it a must-win.

Great game for Campillo
A complete game (assuming we do not come back). If memorey serves me correctly this will only be the 2nd of the season correct? I seem to remember Huddy having one earlier this year.
Oh well.
Not too upset about this game…you gotta give credit where credit is due, and Saunders pitched a good one. I was happy with the way Campillo pitched, and that home run was a garbage one anways. We still took the series.

You're right
It was quite a pitching duel. You cannot blame Campillo for the loss, because he pitched well. As the image shows, Campillo didn’t make a mistake for Kotchman to hit out; he dug it out and hit it over the fence in the short field. Credit to Kotchman for driving the ball. Credit to Saunders for pitching well and credit to the Angels bullpen for keeping the shutout. Again, we did not capitalize when we had runners on base (surprise, surprise) and our offense was stagnant. I disagree with Francouer batting 5th, since he is struggling mightily right now and would rather have seen B. Jones in that position. But hey, as Something Profound said, we took 2 of 3 on the road and got some momentum (I hope).
We should have Gonzo back soon, which should help the ‘pen. You can’t complain about the way Jurrjens, Reyes, Campillo and Morton have started. I’m actually concerned about our offense more than anything right now. We don’t seem to be able to get guys around, and are leaving too many men on base. I’m especially concerned that Tex and Frenchy really are not playing the way they are capable and it is hurting us. I think that if we can get these guys going, and drive in a few more runs, we’re right back in this.

For what it's worth...
I resoiundingly second this assessment. With one additional concern…Frenchy’s effort on defense is catching my eye lately. Not in a good way. That stupid home run by Kotchman could have been caught (or at least chased) by a hustling right fielder.
Plus...
Thanks to the Cardinals, we picked up a game on the Phils over the weekend. Yeah, it’s only 1, but it’s better than losing one, and every one counts. Given that our current rotation is:
Hudson
Jurrjens
Campillo
Reyes
Morton
I’d say we’re going pretty well. I really wouldn’t have been shocked if we got swept by the Angels; taking 2 of 3 is a nice unexpected treat. Hopefully we can steal one against the Rox today and go from there.
The Braves
They are starting to scuffle a little. I don’t know, I was gone the whole week, but they really need to make some moves to improve their game more. I’m puzzled as to what they need really. Hitting or pitching? I’m tempted to say pitching more. http://braveselite.b1.jcink.com
I don’t know but that’s just me.
