Braves @ Halos: Final Game
Atlanta Braves @ Los Angeles Angels
Dare I say the word sweep in reference to the Braves and mean that we will not be the ones on the receiving end of that sweep... and we're on the road! If Jorge Campillo can somehow manage to pitch us into a win then we will have accomplished the unthinkable... but let's not count our chickens before they hatch.

Just checking in...
I made it back from Myrtle Beach. I was fortunate enough to get to go to 6 games while I was there, so I’ve got a ton of pictures, a couple of stories and observations – hopefully I can get things sorted out in the next few days. Quick highlights:
1. Gorkys Hernandez is an impressive player. He didn’t hit much while I was there, but he can play outfield. Man oh man.
2. Ditto about Tyler Flowers, but not in the outfield. He got himself a few hits, and several walks.
3. Roger Clemens was in the house watching his son Koby play for Salem. Yes, I got an autograph. Whee!
4. Frank Wren was there as well. I was going to give him some advice on Braves moves and whatnot, but I chose not to. I figure I’ll give him a chance to prove himself. If he fails, I’m ready.
When I can get going on pictures, I’ll post a few.

Oh well.
Not too upset about this game…you gotta give credit where credit is due, and Saunders pitched a good one. I was happy with the way Campillo pitched, and that home run was a garbage one anways. We still took the series.

You're right
It was quite a pitching duel. You cannot blame Campillo for the loss, because he pitched well. As the image shows, Campillo didn’t make a mistake for Kotchman to hit out; he dug it out and hit it over the fence in the short field. Credit to Kotchman for driving the ball. Credit to Saunders for pitching well and credit to the Angels bullpen for keeping the shutout. Again, we did not capitalize when we had runners on base (surprise, surprise) and our offense was stagnant. I disagree with Francouer batting 5th, since he is struggling mightily right now and would rather have seen B. Jones in that position. But hey, as Something Profound said, we took 2 of 3 on the road and got some momentum (I hope).
We should have Gonzo back soon, which should help the ‘pen. You can’t complain about the way Jurrjens, Reyes, Campillo and Morton have started. I’m actually concerned about our offense more than anything right now. We don’t seem to be able to get guys around, and are leaving too many men on base. I’m especially concerned that Tex and Frenchy really are not playing the way they are capable and it is hurting us. I think that if we can get these guys going, and drive in a few more runs, we’re right back in this.
Go on, ask if anything surprises me.

For what it's worth...
I resoiundingly second this assessment. With one additional concern…Frenchy’s effort on defense is catching my eye lately. Not in a good way. That stupid home run by Kotchman could have been caught (or at least chased) by a hustling right fielder.

Plus...
Thanks to the Cardinals, we picked up a game on the Phils over the weekend. Yeah, it’s only 1, but it’s better than losing one, and every one counts. Given that our current rotation is:
Hudson
Jurrjens
Campillo
Reyes
Morton
I’d say we’re going pretty well. I really wouldn’t have been shocked if we got swept by the Angels; taking 2 of 3 is a nice unexpected treat. Hopefully we can steal one against the Rox today and go from there.

The Braves
They are starting to scuffle a little. I don’t know, I was gone the whole week, but they really need to make some moves to improve their game more. I’m puzzled as to what they need really. Hitting or pitching? I’m tempted to say pitching more. http://braveselite.b1.jcink.com
I don’t know but that’s just me.
