Hampton throws quick bullpen session

Simulated Spring Training and rehab stints next for lefty By Mark Bowman / MLB.com

"He threw great," Cox said. "His ball was sinking like crazy. He had a good change. He just looked great, just like in Spring Training."
Hampton's planned progression would then lead him to two Minor League rehab starts. If he's still healthy at that point, he'll attempt to make his first Major League start since Aug. 19, 2005. His target is to make this start sometime around the All-Star break.

[Note:  He would go to the Spring Training facility and the GCL before the MILB rehab starts.  Sorry if that's a misleading quote.]

So who else isn't holding their breath?

A Proposition

I think for the sake of the collective psyche, no one should be allowed to post anything about Mike Hampton. Maybe its just that im like a puppy who continually tries to walk through the electric fence, but every time i hear Mr. Glass is coming back i get all tingly inside (don’t ask me why, besides at one point he was pretty darn good).

In my opinion...

He’s a professional baseball player. We catch (thru the press) the fringes of what he’s really going through. Think about it…is he really trying to come back for another paycheck? I personally give him credit…because it’s personal and professional.

Now for the other side of my opinion...

Time for Hampton to deliver. Mike…bring all of our collective hopes, doubts, dreams, fears to the table…and leave everything you have on the table. WIN some games!

I, on the other hand, just get angry at the mere mention of Hampton’s name. Don’t worry, he’ll be hurt sometime in the next week or so. What a tool.

Who is Mike Hampton?

Go on, ask if anything surprises me.

I Don't Get It...

The guy could have retired at any time and continued receiving his check in full like other stars do from time to time. Instead, he’s chosen to do rehab after rehab, endure this sort of abuse from fans, only to try to help his team for once. I’ve yet to hear/read about a single Braves player calling out Hampton about his injuries. Anyone here who has had to rehab knows how difficult that can be, just to get back into Average Joe form. Bash him all you want, if it makes you feel better, but it just makes you all look like a fool.

you're right.

I know it isn’t his fault. I really, hope he comes back and he is able to win some games.

Go on, ask if anything surprises me.

Not to jump on the bandwagon

but I too fail to understand some of the stuff posted about Hampton. Don’t get me wrong, he is clearly THE most fragile player in the majors (Baldelli is a close 2nd) but it’s not like they can CHANGE that fact. It’s one thing to rip a tendon in your hand playing “guitar hero” or blowout your knee from carrying a side of deer meat up the steps, but the injuries he’s sustained appear to be completely uncontrollable. So to call him a tool, or any other name for that matter, is just plain childish.

Your childish

maybe

Hampton has that weird mitochondrial diesease too?

by TradeAndruw on Jun 16, 2008 1:43 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I agree

I give Hampton all the credit in the world, because even through all of the injuries, he’s still busting his ass to get back on the field and do something to earn his money. I’m not counting on it happening, but I’m hoping it does – not only because it would help us as a team, but because frankly, he deserves it.

Anyone who puts in as much effort as he has, when they could have taken the easy way out, gets a big +1 from me.

really?

this is pretty uncalled for.

Go on, ask if anything surprises me.

Um...

not only is it uncalled for, it has no basis and makes no sense.

Just once

wouldn’t it be fun IF accountability actually MEANT something? It would make my year to see this pompous ass prosecuted, not to mention the message it would send to the internet cowards who frequent message boards posting this BS without fear of retribution.

by scstrato on Jun 16, 2008 1:46 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yes and No

That was totally uncalled for but I agree with the frustration over Hampton. I have been one of those optimistic people that have stood up for Hampton and thought this would actually be an alright year for him (at least 20 starts). However, time and time again I’ve been disappointed. I really think that if Hampton keeps up with these injuries, (while I readily admit that they aren’t his fault and cannot be prevented), he will be one of those players that you just can’t mention without Braves fans getting sick. After draining the Braves payroll the last few years without earning a penny, I’ll be the first in that group of fans.

You're exactly right.

I totally agree with everything you say. And perhaps TMAC85’s heart is in the right place, but the enunciation was lacking. You’re right, I do get ill over hearing about Hampton. But I’m not going call him childish names and say that because he couldn’t prevent himself from getting injured it somehow makes him Michael Jackson instead of Hampton.

Go on, ask if anything surprises me.

I think he must be one of the most unlucky people on the planet. If I were Mike Hampton, I’d be afraid to leave the house. The Bubble Boy episode of Seinfeld comes to mind.
