Jacob Thompson

It doesn't look like he is going to sign with us. Matt Price told us yesterday that Thompson is planning to goto the Cape Cod league and return for his senior season. Hopefully he is just using this to try and get some more money but it sounds like right now he doesn't want to sign. He is a native of Danville so hopefully he will sign and make it there. The End

Where

Where can we find a list of up to date signings of draft picks? I had a link last year but for some reason can’t find it this time around.

BaseballAmerica

Will come out with one soon but as of now I know that David Francis, Casey Hodges, Craig Kimbrel, Richard Sullivan, and Shayne Moody have all signed and are on the official roster for Danville.

One of the great inefficiencies that can be exploited in the draft is the fact that talented college players who underpreform junior year can slip until later on the first day or even into the second day. Thompson has two years of great preformance for Virginia, a summer of dominance with Team USA, and then struggled with command this spring. Despite that, he has a plus slider and three average other pitches (#3 starter) and just needs some time to work on his mechanics and command. He’s a steal in the fifth round and the Braves should pay him like the supplemental round talent he is. They certainly have the money to do so – picks 40, 64, and 70 cost $1.736 million last season and none should take more than slot money to sign, while the Braves spent $3 million on their 1st and 2nd round picks last season. There’s certainly an extra ~$600,000 laying around to convince him to forego his senior year.

agreed

this guy was dominant at time for the cavs, despite a bad 2008. I say we throw some money at him and get him signed. I mean, we paid 10 million our first rounder for a barely productive tom glavine. and did you see what josh fields did last year? let’s not let that happen again.
